This was brought up elsewhere, but I figure it's thread-worthy. For those not in the know, Val James became the first black American-born NHL player when he played for the Sabres in 1981. His NHL career was brief, but he played professional hockey, much of it with the Amerks, for a number of years, until a shoulder injury let him vanish from the game. The Waterloo Region Record did a nice write up on him here: http://www.therecord.com/sports-story/5325627-nhl-fans-horrible-racism-recalled-by-val-james/ Fascinating accounts, if saddening and horrifying.

We're on Kane Watch over in the Trade Speculation thread, btw, because it's rumored that Buffalo has expressed interest in him, as have a few other teams.
-
This sounds like a joke, but Z has four points in his last three games. Although he did only skate 13:39 though that last game, so maybe he's banged up or in the dog house.

Hodgson, Messyzaros, and the NYI 2. Maybe throw us a 4th.

I think this why the price won't be so high on him, not because of correctable off ice issues. Fourth Period (linked up thread) indicates that the interested teams are Montreal, Philly, LA, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and Toronto. Notes: Montreal and Pittsburgh are in the playoffs and would need him on the ice. Philly and LA are trying to make the push and would need him on the ice. Pittsburgh and Toronto don't have enough cap space for him and would need to ship back roster players just to have him finish the season post-deadline. Montreal, Philly, and LA are close on cap space, but have just enough room to take him on any time this season. If the other teams decide they invariably NEED a player on the ice this season and/or they aren't willing to move other pieces around to free up cap space, Kane's price could drop.
-
I'm not sure Toronto will win. They're still immensely profitable and marketable even when losing. If the fix is in, I'd bet on a struggling team in a non-traditional market: ARI, FLA, CBJ, CAR, in that order.

First click: Sabres win. I'm not clicking any more times. This is my reality now.

What was the instance and who was the source? I don't follow this guy at all, probably won't. Also, it's Uncle Rico coming out of retirement.

I like Dan. I don't love Dan, at least yet. But I'd take him and Rayzor singing nothing but ###### love songs before I listen to any the following television PBP announcers: Jack Edwards John Forslund Jeff Rimer Steve Goldstein Howie Rose Sam Rosen Jim Jackson Rick Peckham John Ahlers Matt McConnell Ralph Strangis Bob Miller (this is a close one) Anthony LaPanta John Kelly

Agreed. It's bad asset management to let them walk for nothing if they're worth something. And if they're going to walk, we're going to have to find alternative solutions. But I'm not sure we should be turning them out solely for tank's sake.
-
It's a tough balance. We need to finish last this year, yet want to finish far from last next year. You could trade out just about any skater on this roster and replace them with either a younger one that sucks now but will be better soon or a veteran via trade or free agency in the off season. But the goalies... I don't know if the kids could perform to Enroth's level next year if Enroth were to be moved. While he has shown to be a threat to the tank, he's also shown is potential to be a useful asset next season. Several us have joked that a great way to tank would be to flip out the two UFA goalies for picks, but after the laughter subsided, it seemed no one had the chutzpah to potentially vex the next season(s) like that.

There's a gross-ass picture of it if you seek it out.

By the way, that was a lovely article by Jeremy White. He basically dares other CHL teams to get on our level, but mocks them for not having the guts or brains to do it fast enough. He praises the 'Bres for committing to the tank well before any other team was comfortable doing so, potentially giving us the advantage we needed to run away with this thing.

I feel like UA jerseys would look weird. Like a cartoonishly obvious lack of heritage. And I'm not happy with Nike after the fugly Team USA jerseys in Sochi. Maybe it's a chance to fix the 3rd.

GDT: Sabres at Montreal 2-3-2015 7:30 PM EST MSG, WGR

I was indifferent about this game until Montreal decided to be little all night. They tried to take liberties with a desperate nothing-to-lose team, and took an embarrassing home loss when that team showed uncommon resiliency. Myers was targeted early (that was an elbow to the head), but he stood up, cleaned up, and fought back. The turning point in his game, oddly enough, was using his stick to literally lift Gallagher off the ice by his nuts. That's what got Gallagher pissy, but Myers was already done putting up with his , and especially wasn't going to do it after the final whistle. -
Pro level analysis: It depends.

Hahaha, if you play well enough, someone will move you the hell out of here. -
Not super surprising. Word was that Murray was looking for Larkin, Sheahan/Jurco, and a 1st. Larkin's (15th overall) been playing great at UM this season with 30 points in 21 games, Sheahan (21st overall) has been gradually developing, Jurco (35th overall) has showed more promise with a point per game last year in the A. In other words, the assets that were asking for started to show their potential ability at higher levels, likely increasing their price. That said, Detroit has worked their way well back into the playoff hunt, and may be more desperate or willing to surrender assets to settle their blue line.

But now Meszaros can sleep at night.

Maybe it's him.
