Holy Mackerel! Sabres Win Dahlin Lottery!
That Aud Smell replied to Randall Flagg's topic in The Aud Club
Ahh, so. Okay. DAMN! This makes me enjoy the gift that much more. Also: Thank you. This is also super helpful. The bolded still boggles my mind. It would help to know the precise mechanics of how these numbers were drawn. Makes me feel great. -

Appreciate the effort. I am still lost. -
Was it elsewhere reported that the Bills had Allen as their top player? I would be skeptical about Mayfield and the Bills.

I 100% do not understand how the odds work. -

He's a better prospect than Eichel was. Holy sh1t. -
This kid - Lindsey Jordan - is around the age of my oldest kid, and it was the latter who introduced me to the former. She records as Snail Mail (no idea why). I enjoyed her sound from the get-go -- and now she's looking to break through with a goofy hockey-themed music video. Go get it, kid.

Psshhh. I can’t always avoid retweets and such. It’s like blocking someone here, but others quote them. Even based on that chinless derp’s “high” standards, it was remarkable trollogy I guess? It is beyond asinine to suggest, as he clearly did, that “losing the right way” paved a path toward the #1 pick. -

Harrington tweeted to that effect - sincerely said that the Sabres winning the lottery after a season where they stunk but had wanted to be good was karmic proof that tanking is bad. I can’t even. -
As modified: Done!

motherfunkster, data do a lotta stuff. but it don't paint.

These are not apple:apple comparisons, IMO. Weird as that may seem.

Strong work here. Not just a visual creative, evidently.

I said it was folly. You heard me. Thinking more on it, I see the point about how surrendering two seconds, especially in this particular draft, could be seen as being as bad or worse as giving up a single first at 22. OTOH, I think the team had it bad for the LB prospect who was still on the board, and the FO wanted to be able to go get him from 22.

you, sir, are on fire.

Nicely turned. Smallish puck moving d-men are the new norm.

As someone who cringed on hearing who they picked, I will say: It is pure folly to decry the pick at this point. No one knows how this will all unfold. Allen is a polarizing prospect. I see pundits who love the pick and those who hate it. I will look forward to seeing what he can do. (In the 2019 season.) This is a good point, too. Credit to Beane for not parting with the other 1st. That was impressive. Of course, he turned around and moved up again (which seems like a no-no). I'm fairly convinced that Terry was the ultimate decision maker here. The guy loves upside. This is a legitimate point. I've been struggling with this: "Josh" strikes me as a total non-starter on the "does he have a QB name" test. Is that unfair? The last name works quite well.

here's hoping.

He’s an upside guy. It’s how he became a billionaire.

Someone posted upthread a quote from Rex about how Pegula is a bold guy. Mayock opined that Allen has the most upside of any QB (player?) in the draft. I’m pretty confident that Pegula played a significant decision making role in targeting Allen, at some point. (The part where the FO pros teed it up and asked “what sort of risk/reward do you prefer, Terry?”). Might be the same tendency that had him sign off on FGMTM’s ill-fated rapid rebuild. A little more: Beane’s quotes are confusing to me. “Every QB had a knock on him.” So the Bills took the one whose primary knock (accuracy) is demonstrably the hardest to overcome (e.g., EJ Manuel). Allen on his awful teenaged Tweets: I saw quotes about how he needs to be more careful on social media — NOT quotes more expressly saying that the things he Tweeted were stupid, awful, wrong, and no longer the sorts of things he’d say. More so that he needs to be careful about what he does say.

Nice - especially that one.
-
yeah - but everyone outside of WNY does that. It's an homage! (Mind you, 3 out of 5 such people don't know the "Buffalo" refers to Buffalo, NY.)
-
NFW Jackson was ever going to be this FO's guy. Allen over Rosen as a prospect, I will never understand. ... EXCEPT. Shoot. I think I get it. Almost above all else, McDermott prizes availability. It's partly why Watkins was traded. I bet Rosen's injuries caused him to slot behind the big ol' boy Allen.
-
Sounds like the Giants are trying to squeeze Beane.

I thought maybe it was someone affiliated with one of the other big-4 QB prospects. Mayock is pretty definitive on the Bills finding a way to draft Allen. Mayock says Beane's fondness for a Cam Newton type stature plays a big role here. Says the Bills also love Allen's temperament, intangibles, etc. More and more, I feel like it's going to happen. God help us.
