Pegula Sports Entertainment, behind the scenes

I need this joke explained. Is it just a function of how Kevyn spells his name? -
I would not put it past her. But, no.

Hmm. Not sure, tbh. But, dude: I’ve had plenty of elite Mexican grub with flour tortillas in authentic settings (Cali, rural Florida). All places referenced above make their own, I am pretty sure. Don’t let a corn hang-up stop you from getting this good stuff. One follow: I am fairly positive that Azul makes and uses corn tortillas. And the (small) bar is fantastic. Finally, the female proprietor (there’s a guy who owns and operates too) is my not so secret Buffalo crush.

^ The piece covers a lot of ground, and maybe as a result reads as a little disjointed (especially to olds like us). But I think it comes across as well-researched and interesting. -

This reads as a fairly comprehensive overview of PSE. Not a deep dive, maybe, but it covers a lot of ground. https://news.littlesis.org/2020/08/04/new-pegula-fracking-venture-draws-investment-and-board-role-from-former-pennsylvania-governor-corbett/ -
sure, that's fair. but the same outcome hasn't been achieved in, say, wyoming or either of the dakotas.

my money's on that. about the same reason that Vermont is practically at New Zealand like levels right now.
-
Yeah - get a quality product and do it right. That's it. Up until recently, the best joints got their wings (drums and flats still joined) through Will Poultry. That provider's not around anymore. I'm not sure where the best wholesale wings can be had nowadays.

Maybe not easy (like, in other parts of the country (not just California, btw) where you can get insanely good Mexican food from a food truck parked next to a gas station), but possible. In metro Buffalo, I'll vouch for Casa Azul (downtown, Genesee maybe?) and Taqueria Los Mayas (Cheektowaga, also on Genesee, I think). The former is artisanal, the latter more down home authentic. Both are excellent. If you're looking for just really good grub, I'd recommend Los Mayas. Beyond that, it's Genesee County where the action's at. There are a number of joints in and around Batavia that serve excellent Mexican fare (tacos and otherwise). I presume that it's the agricultural aspect of life there that gave rise to excellent Mexican food options.

I read that he played hurt last season. It does seem like a shrewd move - experienced veteran coming back from an injury who got cut mostly because of money/cap. Given the competition at RG, I think he slides in as the presumptive starter (provided he's healthy). That is, unless Ford is going to play guard.

I have not kept up with the reporting. At one point, I read someone talking encouragingly about how polio's basically been eradicated. But then someone else chimed in that this is a coronavirus -- a notoriously elusive sort of thing. Perhaps the idea is to get something like the flu shot, only a lot more effective (but not a silver bullet). p.s. Y'all don't need an internet judge or a real-life lawyer to clarify that only the government can violate someone's 1st Amendment rights.

The title track from their sophomore effort. For my money, Fontaines D.C. are the best rock 'n roll band out there right now - musically muscular and agile, lyrically brilliant. And this video is a fookin' trip.
-
Haha - no sh1t? Should have known it was going this way after I read that they were talking about just playing all games on the road, and treating some of them as home games. Or maybe playing in Baltimore with a whole fleet of portable changing rooms.

Given that the prior team in Seattle had an "S" as its crest, I like this one even more now.
-
Fun name. I like what they've done with their marks and content. Like others, I think that the "S" is sort of weird as a primary logo, but there's enough other stuff in there for it to work.

Ahite @LGR4GM - simmah dahn nah.
-
A little bit much, but it'd grow on me. If anything, it's adding to the rumours regarding "Sirens."
-
Wowza. Breakers would be fine. I feel like there's another pro team with that name somewhere? Waves would be wack.
-
Ha. I think siren arguably is suggestive of first responders. But I think that Sirens would be readily associated with the mythical creatures that haunt and imperil sailors. And that would make sense for Seattle, given how identified it is with the Puget Sound and the Pacific Ocean beyond. Yet on the other hand, I would imagine that #cancelculture would scuttle an invocation of the sirens, as they are undoubtedly viewed in that sector as a misogynistic portrayal of women as dangerous temptations.
-
I expect that Seattle will immediately be good. And it looks like there's a difference between buying an existing franchise for $189M and paying a $650M expansion fee.
-
I love that video they put together. Someone theorized in the comments to the post -- Sirens. That could work.

I'm just catching that now. I appreciate your keen eye on it as well. What's our national illness rate? 1%? 2%? So the fact that COVID-19 is currently within the limits of Category 2 is a function of the steps that have been taken, not its likely lethality.
-
I follow some COVID-19 skeptics on Twitter, just so I'm not hearing just one message. One of them (Berenson?) pointed out this CDC slide deck from a few years back, which is interesting food for thought. https://www.cdc.gov/media/pdf/mitigationslides.pdf One takeaway: A Category 2 influenza pandemic would involve between 90K and 450K excess deaths. Category 2 flu pandemics were previously experienced in 1957 and 1968. The mitigation measures recommended for a "Cat 2" in these CDC materials are ... well, it's a little hard to tell whether they're less strict than what's being done now.

Jeebus. Later than Neil on Drury, but not quite as vicious either. What an awful incident.
