  1. This seems ... bad.
  2. Maybe? I dunno. I seem to recall photographs indicating a lot of non-mask wearing, at least in outdoor settings. I saw something on the Twitter this morning - taken from Fauci? - where it was stated: Avoid indoor gatherings. Wear masks when you can't socially distance, especially if you're indoors. That seems simple enough.
  3. right. and i've read outlying content to the effect that, in certain areas at least, the virus seems to weakening (i.e., not as lethal). i don't feel like i'm getting good information on that sort of thing. junk science? yet otoh, the fact that hospitalizations are rising to crisis levels along with higher rates of infection is pretty much all i need to know. maybe we should adjourn to the covid-19 thread.
  4. ^ The Scandinavian countries have not required masks for those not feeling ill. Honestly, there's so much that's so unclear right now. That said, wagering on mask-wearing being helpful seems like an easy thing to do.
  5. Who ... who was that masked man?
  6. Is there a perverse incentive to finish 12th?
  7. There are alternatives. But they suck. And I'm constitutionally averse to them.
  8. Been burned too many times to recount over the past ~9 years, but, whatever. I'll take it. Colour me encouraged.
  9. We're covering familiar ground. Which I guess I find interesting, to a point. And then I don't.
  10. They certainly don't help anything. OTOH, I mostly agree with PA's assessment of the Pegulas at this point in time. I could definitely do without the understandable-C-words-and-yoko-ono stuff, though.
  11. Well, that's a little less terrible than initially stated. A little.
  12. Huh? I'm no fan of the contract, but the guy reliably goes 100 mph. That's not to say he's some defensive dervish - he mostly sucks at that part of the game. But for what he can do? He just about always goes hard.
  13. Flat organizational structure? Like I said, it sounds familiar. The Pegulas are highly involved.
  14. Yeah, I'm not seeing this as anything groundbreaking. I presume that all owners sign off on the hiring of their coaches, and further presume that the sign-off involves them meeting with the candidates and getting their own feel for them (i.e., whether they are authentic people). Are the Pegulas more involved in the process of hiring a head coach than other owners? Almost assuredly so, but I think we already knew that based on prior conversations (deliberations) here.
  15. I'm in support of it, but only if the three respective branches of local government are renamed Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.
  16. My sense is that the COVID-19 is a massively complicated, intensely nuanced problem, or set of problems. Handley's assessment of the matter is highly reductive and quite self-assured. To him, the answers are clear and the solutions are simple. I'm generally distrustful of people who speak in such terms. I'm sure that all kinds of mistakes are being made (both errors and omissions), and many of them will be judged harshly with the benefit of hindsight. In the meantime, we'll do our best to muddle along.
  17. JB Handley is a huge anti-vaxxer, btw.
  18. Right - and/or presymptomatic.
  19. I’ve seen that reported as well - sorry no link right now. Also read that contaminated surface transmission is not a big concern — it’s prolonged exposure in proximity and unventilated areas that is the big issue. Which is why that slightly feverish member of a church choir — out west? (Oregon?) — was a super spreader.
  20. I'm still not sure. Seems like really well-balanced, well-built teams have won the Cup of late, without a true super duper star. Nah?
  21. Ari-corona-zona. From what I recall, this may be part of what makes the virus so pernicious -- it expresses in such a widely varying way within populations (from no symptoms, to lethal symptoms).
  22. except that @john wawrow said it is. i find his reporting to be reliably very good and frequently excellent. i generally find his online persona(e) - mostly on this board and (too) often on Twitter - to be something i'd rather avoid. i am also confident that, in the real world, i'd enjoy a "hang" with the guy. the persistent nonsense of teh interwebs ain't fer everyone.
