He's getting closer, but he still only has 48gp in the AHL. IMO a goaltender needs at minimum 100gp at the AHL level before they should sniff the NHL. By comparison, Askarov has 108gp in the "A" and he's just now breaking in to the Sharks lineup. Ryan Miller played a full season in the AHL at age 23 and another full season at age 24... having 170gp in the AHL before permanently breaking into the NHL in 2005 as a 25 year old.

Statistically speaking how it impacts wins and losses, blocking a shot probably doesn't have a big impact. However, in key situations... PK, end of period, close games... it is important to prevent pucks from getting to the net. That said, it's less about the statistical impact and more about the player proving to his team that he's willing to sacrifice himself by "eating one" for the benefit of the team. It's culturally significant.

Dumb tournament without some of the best in the world... Kucherov, Vasilevskiy, Sergachev, Malkin, Ovechkin, etc.. And no Caps in the tournament even though they're the top team in the league? OK NHL. If it's not best-on-best it's meaningless.

I'd remain patient, he's still young for a defenseman and has shown he's a solid defender when healthy. Jake McCabe also had trouble staying healthy early in his career and yet he developed into a very reliable player over the past 4-5 seasons.

FWIW Greenway would've made a big difference in this game. The problem is if he's out of the lineup, they have no ability to answer back... they get push around without any fear of reciprocation. Part of that is roster construction. The other part is youth. This team is still very young and simply hasn't developed the size and strength to matchup physically with certain teams. Guys like Power, Quinn, Cozens, Peterka, Byram and even Dahlin... are still growing into their "man bodies". I expect there to be a heavy focus on getting bigger and stronger over the offseason. gym day

Yep, and honestly the hit didn't look that bad to me even on replay. Tage put himself in a bad spot, he exposed himself leading with his head... not excusing the hit, but it there was no elbow thrown and he didn't leave his feet. Still dirty but have seen much much worse.

Huge overreaction by the media and fanbase imo. First, nobody knew what happened until the replay, who was it, was it clean? The players on the ice didn't know either, how do you expect them to respond? Even the refs needed replay. Challenging someone to a fight after a big hit is absolute garbage, it needs to be removed from the game. You don't like the hit? Hit them back, it's allowed! A finesse/smaller player pretending to fight isn't showing a backbone. I cringe everytime Krebs steps in and gets ragdolled, it's a joke. The team as a group elevating their physicality is the proper response. Get his number and put a target on them the rest of the game, tell your physical players to go out of their way to hit him every chance they get. Lastly, they're at the bottom of the standings yet again in a season where playoffs were the target. Their "lack of repsonse" in this situation isn't the problem here.

They won, but didn't think they played all that well.... still no sense of urgency on defense, lost battles, puck watching and lack of awareness in their own zone. Looked sloppy and unorganized most of the game, poor decisions with the puck, etc. Same old same old.

3p weekday game here on the west coast? strange. Pay attention to Carolina... watch how much urgency they play with on defense, all 5 players, on the puck AND away from the puck. They give up the 3rd fewest scoring chances per game. Then watch Buffalo defend, slow feet, poor awareness, puck watching, guys away from the puck just standing still in an area... no sense of urgency.

"something else" They don't hate to lose enough. The urgency to defend is not there. I've said it in another thread... there's levels to hating to lose. They don't hate it enough, and it shows in their urgency to defend and decision making.

I've seen him several times at the Ice Den Scottsdale as an employee of the Coyotes (wearing coyotes branded gear) and hanging out with the team brass. My boys were there often for tournaments over the years and at the time the Ice Den was the Coyotes practice facility. I want to say that was sometime around 2017-2019. I remember being surprised to see him as he was just recently llet go by Buffalo and hadn't heard any news about his hiring anywhere else.
