GDT: Big Bad Bruins at Sabres, 3-19-2023 1pm ESPN+, MSG

Same. The fact that the lowest cap spending team in the league was in the wildcard mix this late in the season is reason to be optimistic. It's what they do with that cap apace moving forward that matters. -
It's not rushing him when there's reason to believe he's the best goalie on the roster and they're in a race for a wildcard spot. That said, I agree, he should get atleast one practice under his belt before throwing him to the wolves. Spencer Knight had a similar situation. Drafted, 2 years of college, pro debut at 21 years old, played 4 regular season games for FLA after his college season ended. He put up a .919 sv% in those 4 games which was just below his final college season .932%. That said, Levi had better college stats (in the same conference as Knight, arguably on a worse team), so there's some hope he can provide some immediate relief.

I think we're underestimating how bad our goaltending actually is. In the land of the blind one-eyed man is king.
-
Maybe he wants #1 and UPL won't give it up.
-
Unacceptable. Sounds like he has a severe case of doesn't-want-to-be-here-itis. By next week Buffalo may be out of the playoff picture, therefore he's not a team player. I, for one, don't want him infecting this team with his selfish and childish antics. If he signed today he could immediately start his 8 game shutout streak to put the Sabres firmly in a wildcard spot.

Each day that passes I grow more skeptical. What's going through Levi's head? Buffalo is perhaps the best situation in the entire NHL for him. His indecisiveness is concerning to say the least.

GDT: Buffalo Sabres @ Washington Capitals 3/15/23 7 pm tv and radio

Out of 64 goalies that have played at least 65 min shorthanded, Comrie ranks 63rd (.791) and UPL 56th (.832) in short-handed save percentage. Aderson? He ranks 14th (.888). UPL and Comrie are that bad. Sometimes your goalie needs to be your best penalty killer. That said, the Sabress give up the 7th most high danger chances on the penalty kill.... so yeah, do better Granato. -

They're just brutal at trying to protect a lead. They're too passive have 4 guys back but they give up way to much ice. You can just keeep giving up such easy zone entries without collapsing on the puck. -

Peterka, now here's a guy on the verge of breaking out... hit the crossbar early in the 1st, goal later on. So many scoring chances the last bunch of games. Stick to Granato for keeping him in the lineup. -

Are the Sabres out of the running for the playoffs?
pi2000 replied to inkman's topic in The Aud Club
Collecting 3 out of possible 8 points vs NYI, DAL, NYR, and TOR gives them a total of 11 out of 24 possible points 3/4 of the way through this 16 in 28 day marathon. That's a points percentage of .458... clearly not good enough to keep pace with the wildcard teams. 4 games remaining in this stretch... @WAS, @PHI, BOS, NSH. 4 wins would put them at a .594 points percentage for this 16 game stretch and firmly in the wildcard mix. -

UPL needs to be playing games down in Roch... he's still young for a goaltender, way too early to give up on him completely. Ride with Anderson and Comrie the rest of the way... playing Anderson as much as possible until he's completely broken down. T his is likely it for him, let him go out with guns blazing.

TL;DR : Buffalo would currently have somewhere around 81-84 points with average goaltending on home ice. Buffalo has the second worst home sv% at .873 and has given up 28 goals more than expected on home ice (132 GA vs 104 xGA). I tried to figure out how many points they've squandered at home due to poor goaltending, so I went game-by-game and calculated the difference between goals allowed and expected goals allowed then subtracted that from the opponents goal total. Their current home record is 13-18-2. In 23 of those 33 games they've given up more goals than expected. Their record in those 23 games is 6-15-2. Now, hypothetically, in those 17 losses, if they only gave up the expected number of goals against.... 5 games would flip from a loss to a regulation win = +8 points, as 2 of these games we're OTL's 5 additional games would've reached OT = +5 points, we'll conservatively assume they go 2W-3OTL giving them +7 points 7 games still would've resulted in a loss = 0 points So, with average goaltending at home they're somewhere around 13-16 points better... with a home record somewhere around 20-10-3, which is very close to their away record of 19-10-2. This would put them at 81-85 points, in a wildcard spot.. on the heels of both TBL (82) and TOR (86) in the division... with the playoffs all but a certainty. And this is a conservative estimate. 8 teams have given up at least 10 fewer goals at home than expected, so with slightly above average goaltending they could currently be around 90 points or so. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD KEVYN GET THEM A GOALTENDER
-
IMO they're better with Hinostroza in the lineup vs Greenway.

His GAA on home ice went from 4.38 to 4.90... 10 games 49 goals against, 20 goals allowed over expected.
