  1. No, it's not. Hitting a guy who doesn't see you coming doesn't mean you want to injure him. It's part of the game. Happens even more often in youth and minor leagues. Nobody like watching good players get hurt, or any player for that matter. Some of us just enjoy watching a good physical emotionally charged passionate hockey game. You don't like big boy hockey? Go watch women's leagues and 12U.
  2. You an be hit legally up to 0.6s after the puck leaves your stick. If you choose to look over your left shoulder the entire time, then you open yourself up for a "bllndside" hit, which is perfectly legal. To see if anybody has him lined up since he can be hit legally up to 0.6s after he passes the puck. He failed. It becomes habit at a young age that you don't even turn your head in the direction of the pass, you simply take a glance, move the puck, take a look in the direction of your momentum, then refocus back on the puck... all in fractions of a second. Just watch how many times a pass is made without the player turning their head toward their intended target. It's how the game is played. Blindside hits are not illegal... nor should they be. It's not the responsibility of the guy delivering the hit to make sure his target is looking at him. The game is too fast and chaotic, that if you might as well just removing hitting from the game at that point.
  3. .08s late... not late enough to warrant any further discipline.
  4. I disagree, if Marcchesault turned and looked to the middle of the ice ( which was the direction he was mving) he would've seen Wilson out of the corner of his eye for the last fraction of a second before the hit... which is enough time to take a defensive posture.
  5. Back when I played competitively in the early to mid 90s, hitting was used as an intimidation tactic. Finish your check, put your man through the boards, because the next time he gets the puck he's going to be more worried about taking a hit than making the smart play. USA hockey no longer teaches that. They stress that hitting is meant only for separating your man from the puck. That said, what we've seen over the past 15-20 years is a shrinking of the hitting window after the puck has left the stick. Generally, I'm ok with that, but hockey is a violent chaotic sport. You need to protect yourself out there. Just beacuse a check was hard doesn't mean it was illegal and should be removed from the game. A blinside hit is only blinside if the player doesn't have his head on a swivel, eyes up in the direction they're moving. Marcchesault made a pass and drifted to the middle of the ice with his eyes still focused on the puck. Bad idea. I've been on the receiving end of many of those, and yeah it sucks, but had I turned and looked to middle of the ice instead of "admiring my pass" I would've seen the hit coming.
  6. They better not buy him out. The whole narrative about treating players right to attract free agents is absolute bunk. What attracts players is winning. And winning only happens if you're willing to do everything possible for the benefit of the team... not individual players. Glen Sather was as cutthroat as they come. He believed in cutting 15-20% of the roster every season, keep trimming the fat no matter how many Cups you win.
  7. 15 years ago that's a clean hit. Marcchesault simply got caught admiring his pass and paid the price. That was hockey back then. Today, that's probably labelled a late blindside hit and is generally frowned up, if not penalized severely. Such is the modern NHL.
  8. https://forums.sabrespace.com/topic/25035-sabres-pick-8-casey-mittlestadt/page-2?do=findComment&comment=958357 https://forums.sabrespace.com/topic/24418-2017-nhl-draft-general-nhl-thread/?view=findpost&p=967305 Were you the guy hanging onto Casey's ankles when he was trying to do a pull-up?
  9. Addition by subtraction.
  10. Whats the over/under for Dahlin pull-ups?
  11. Rinne solves the immediate need for a goalie. He's a proven commodity, but he's only 50% of the deal, you also get rid of the last 2 years of Bogos's contract. Anyway, back to the original question,... which was how to get rid of Bogo's contract when nobody really wants him. You have to throw in something of value in any deal to move his contract.
  12. Abmarch to the playoffs would reinvigorate the fanbase. $$$$$$$$$ As GM I'm signing off on that deal in a heartbeat. By launching Bogo I've freed up +$5m in cap in 2019-20 and reinvigorated a fanbase thats currently on life support. And all you have to give up is a very late 1st and pick that has a less than 35% chance of ever making a mark in the NHL.
  13. 1 year of Rinne and we rid ourselves of Bogo. Rinne alone prolly gets them in the playoffs and he can tutor Ullmark.
  14. Stuck with Rinne? He has one year left.
  15. To unload Bogo, and make the playoffs while Dahlin and Mittlestadt are on their ELCs.
  16. Saros is much cheaper
  17. For example trade Bogo and the SJ 2019 first to NSH for Rinne. BUF fills a need and Rinne likely gets them into the playoffs. Bogo is unloaded and it frees up money for RFAs. NSH unloades Rinnes $7m and gets a servicable defenseman and a first.
  18. can this series start already? I forgot the NHL is still going.
  19. Why are you asking me? Botterill is getting paid millions so he can spend all his waking hours figuring these things out.
  20. Moulson cap hit is less in the minors? How? He's on a one way deal. I don't necessarily fault JBOT for not moving him in the exp draft because it's been reported that he wouldn't waive his NMC to go there. What concerns me about JBOT is wether or not he's cutthroat enough to make those difficult personnel decisions.
  21. Risto will not be better with fewer minutes. His shortcomings as a defender are not related to fatigue.
  22. Datsyuks contract got traded, so did Prongers and Clarkson's..... this guys were not even playing at the time. Moulson and Bogo are at least live breathing hockey players. He'll need to get creative like those other GMs, but that might asking to much of his influence as a rookie GM unfortunately. Pronger, Clarkson and Datsyuk would disagree. Moulson will have contributed nothing to this team for the past 2 seasons, same with Bogo, and to the tune of $20m in cap hit. JBOTs should've gotten creative with Vegas to get them to take Bogo (Moulson wouldn't waive his NMC) but instead of moving he ignored history and it was repeated.
  23. I like these moves as well........ however... I'd like to see him be more aggressive in is efforts to move guys like Bogo, Moulson, etc... who are eating up huge chunks of cap space. I still consider this team one year behind where it should be because of his failure to move any of these guys last offseason and instead gave everybody a clean slate going into camp. There was years of film on these guys and they should've been dealt with immediately if not sooner. Now here we are one year later still with a handful of these terrible contracts.
