Curious to find out why he still has a job.
-
Now this is some quality intel. +1
-
It also doesn't mean he's NOT questioning his ability.
-
He plays the game a certain way. Some people don't like it, and I'm OK with that. Kaleta was even more aggressive tbh.

So Eichel runs Bylsma out of town... and now Dahlin, before he's even drafted, is already running Housley out of town. I could get behind that narrative.

If checking was legal in women's hockey, there would be fewer women participating.

I, too, also have a lot of questions about Housley.

I'll bet you're one of those guys who likes it when guys pat each other on the back after an orchestrated "fight". You want to see fewer dangerous hits? Then get rid of the instigator rule. That way we'll get the Probert's and Twist's back into the league who can do a better job of policing the game.

No, it's not. Hitting a guy who doesn't see you coming doesn't mean you want to injure him. It's part of the game. Happens even more often in youth and minor leagues. Nobody like watching good players get hurt, or any player for that matter. Some of us just enjoy watching a good physical emotionally charged passionate hockey game. You don't like big boy hockey? Go watch women's leagues and 12U.

You an be hit legally up to 0.6s after the puck leaves your stick. If you choose to look over your left shoulder the entire time, then you open yourself up for a "bllndside" hit, which is perfectly legal. To see if anybody has him lined up since he can be hit legally up to 0.6s after he passes the puck. He failed. It becomes habit at a young age that you don't even turn your head in the direction of the pass, you simply take a glance, move the puck, take a look in the direction of your momentum, then refocus back on the puck... all in fractions of a second. Just watch how many times a pass is made without the player turning their head toward their intended target. It's how the game is played. Blindside hits are not illegal... nor should they be. It's not the responsibility of the guy delivering the hit to make sure his target is looking at him. The game is too fast and chaotic, that if you might as well just removing hitting from the game at that point.

.08s late... not late enough to warrant any further discipline.

I disagree, if Marcchesault turned and looked to the middle of the ice ( which was the direction he was mving) he would've seen Wilson out of the corner of his eye for the last fraction of a second before the hit... which is enough time to take a defensive posture.

Back when I played competitively in the early to mid 90s, hitting was used as an intimidation tactic. Finish your check, put your man through the boards, because the next time he gets the puck he's going to be more worried about taking a hit than making the smart play. USA hockey no longer teaches that. They stress that hitting is meant only for separating your man from the puck. That said, what we've seen over the past 15-20 years is a shrinking of the hitting window after the puck has left the stick. Generally, I'm ok with that, but hockey is a violent chaotic sport. You need to protect yourself out there. Just beacuse a check was hard doesn't mean it was illegal and should be removed from the game. A blinside hit is only blinside if the player doesn't have his head on a swivel, eyes up in the direction they're moving. Marcchesault made a pass and drifted to the middle of the ice with his eyes still focused on the puck. Bad idea. I've been on the receiving end of many of those, and yeah it sucks, but had I turned and looked to middle of the ice instead of "admiring my pass" I would've seen the hit coming.

They better not buy him out. The whole narrative about treating players right to attract free agents is absolute bunk. What attracts players is winning. And winning only happens if you're willing to do everything possible for the benefit of the team... not individual players. Glen Sather was as cutthroat as they come. He believed in cutting 15-20% of the roster every season, keep trimming the fat no matter how many Cups you win.
-
15 years ago that's a clean hit. Marcchesault simply got caught admiring his pass and paid the price. That was hockey back then. Today, that's probably labelled a late blindside hit and is generally frowned up, if not penalized severely. Such is the modern NHL.

Addition by subtraction.

Whats the over/under for Dahlin pull-ups?

Rinne solves the immediate need for a goalie. He's a proven commodity, but he's only 50% of the deal, you also get rid of the last 2 years of Bogos's contract. Anyway, back to the original question,... which was how to get rid of Bogo's contract when nobody really wants him. You have to throw in something of value in any deal to move his contract.
-
Abmarch to the playoffs would reinvigorate the fanbase. $$$$$$$$$ As GM I'm signing off on that deal in a heartbeat. By launching Bogo I've freed up +$5m in cap in 2019-20 and reinvigorated a fanbase thats currently on life support. And all you have to give up is a very late 1st and pick that has a less than 35% chance of ever making a mark in the NHL.
-
1 year of Rinne and we rid ourselves of Bogo. Rinne alone prolly gets them in the playoffs and he can tutor Ullmark.
-
Stuck with Rinne? He has one year left.
-
To unload Bogo, and make the playoffs while Dahlin and Mittlestadt are on their ELCs.
-
Saros is much cheaper
