Sabres announce Jarmo Kekalainen Hired as Senior Advisor
SabreFinn replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Mikael Granlund -
If we can make it a bigger deal that includes Crouse and the 4OA for Peterka, Rosen, this years 2nd rounder, and probably something more, it would be very interesting.

I think this is spot on. We might be overpaying, but the chances to get what we want and need with Kekäläinen involved are increasing. -

Interesting. Thinking we might have a balanced D next season. And our first round pick this year is as good as gone. Kekäläinen is not running back something that isn't working, that's for sure. -
How would you retool this team this summer?

Karlsson and Whitecload are interesting. What do Vegas need in exchange that we have? -
I think Bear will be available as 9th, Martin probably not. Sabres drafting Bear though, is something I have a hard time believing in. I think they have drafted well the last two years, but I can't figure out if they have any visions when drafting, or do they just pick most skilled player available?

Those long term projections puts us about 5 milj over the cap. Byram is the one that has to go imo. Finding a new partner for both Dahlin and Power for the rest of the money will be challenging even if we probably can sign Docker for a miljon less than projected. Unless we move Samuelsson and Clifton.

Not much Liiga, mostly with the national teams. I don't think Liiga is good enough nowadays to form players straight to NHLers, there are too many teams there and not enough players to keep up the speed during games. As you wrote, Helenius played hockey with men as very young, he was good enough to take a spot on a top line, good for him. On the other hand there are young players that become Liiga players but there are a lot to still be developed in their game. Now Liiga is not a development league, those young players are learned how to manage and survive, to adapt to tactics so they can be a cost effecient solution, when they should be working on skating and such things.

There was rumours telling that at some point during the season, but I also remember hearing Kreider had some injury issues this season. Hard to know what to believe. A deal with both Kreider and Schneider could be a interesting package if Rangers really want Kreider gone.

Jeannot is interesting, he brings needed toughness. We probably have to overpay, but he still might be cheap enough. Brian Rust is a player I like. If there are plans on playing both Thompson and Norris as C we need another RW. Schneider is a on top of my list of D, he is a perfect partner for Power imo. Zach Whitecload is the other D I think they should target. My big off season prediction is Marner to Vegas, and they need to clear space to make that happen.

My kid is nine and playing hockey, it seems like we are far behind in development 😄

Chaos? Seems like a perfect fit at the front office! Seriously spoken, he seems like a good back up pick if Martin is taken.

To everyone clamoring for the Sabres to trade the pick
SabreFinn replied to inkman's topic in The Aud Club
I don't think Rosen is the same value as the 9th pick. I just named him as one of the assets I think should be used to upgrade the team before we use our top pick. I don't dislike Rosen, I just can't see him get a roster spot in Buffalo, even If he is a top player in AHL. That puts him on top of my list of players to trade. If a trade can't be done without our 9th. Then trade the pick, I'm not against improving the team, just want whoever completes next trade to try other options first. -
It seems he has his playoff mood on. The same way he had in Liiga playoff and Worlds last year. Once he finds his way to keep that "win next shift"-mood going over a whole season he will be a NHLer.

Both Chicago and San Jose has two picks in the first round, would they give them away to choose first?

Agree on that. Might be necessery to trow in a 2nd or a 3rd and a 4th to make a trade including Rosen as interesting as the 9th. -

think it depends on what timeline I have to work with. Is it a rebuilding team I take the pick. Otherwise I take a shot on Rosen. -
No. But I definitely understand everyone who turns their back on this. A respected NHL franchise has become something that, to me, seems like some weird experiment.

Byram to Penguins in exchange for Bryan Rust. Quinn to Rangers för Braden Schneider. There. I fixed it.

I think it could be wise to keep the pick and in 3-4 years have a player on a cheap contract to hopefully put in the line-up. We have plenty of other assets to trade, like Rosen for example, that will never be roster players for Sabres but might be one on another team. -
With Benson and Helenius they might already have started changing culture.
-
I think what you said about changing culture is the main reason why we should take him.
