There is a guy on the hockeybuzz Sabres comments that has been right on a lot of things over the last several years. He said to look to Minnesota and then later implied it was JEE. He then said their backup plan was a former Habs player out west. That could be Danualt, Monahan, Toffoli, Drouin but I would suspect it is either Danault or Monahan. so for what it is worth I have read the JEE smoke from two sources that have been proven to be connected over the years.

Good to know about Leone connection. These are the issues to consider with that deal: -Ehlers and Iafallo are both one year from ufa -McGroary is pulling a Gauthier and wants NHL ice time immediately. If you make that deal and give in then Kulich and company all demand the same. if you make that deal you might as well throw in Joker and trade for DeMelo’s ufa rights. Ehlers, Iaffalo, Demelo, McGroaty would solve a lot of the lineup holes.

There is no way they would buyout Skinner to save the $7 million. Ruff would not be involved in that. The buyout is to get rid of a player who doesn’t fit and spend the money on a player or players who do. You don’t hire Ruff and say your job is on the line and it is playoffs or bust this year and then just do cost cutting moves.

Laughton is not a good option. There are much better players to fill that role. If Laughton is brought in then Ventura and the analytics dept should quit on the spot. a well oiled front office should work with Adams and company telling Ventura”these are the role players we need. Your job is to look at the analytics and tell us the best options” Laughton should not be on the list if that is the way they are working.

As far as a Skinner trade the only one that would seem to make sense would be Chicago. They need cap and scoring and the proximity is close enough to Toronto that he may consider it. Can’t see him being sold on Utah or SJ. Maybe Columbus. He may waive for Ottawa, Montreal or Detroit but Indont think those teams would be interested. Toronto has no cap space for it.

After SJ at #1 every pick is up for trade this year.😁 I think this is a case of players 2-15 are basically equal in teams books. Move down, get an additional premium asset and get a similar player later in the round.

This isn’t rocket science. If they buy him out its not because they need cap space, it’s because they don’t want him on the team any longer. Why is that?

You can believe whatever you want. But they changed their culture and have been a playoff team ever since he left while they weren’t one with him and the Sabres haven’t made the playoffs with him. It was the right move for them to change the culture. Let’s hope the Sabres do the same thing.
