  1. "As of now..." How many times have us fans thought, "Oh, man, we've turned the corner now!" Only to crash back to reality the next game. Until they win several in a row, and win most of a bunch of games in a stretch, I cannot believe anything has changed based on one game.
  2. Of all the Matt Ellises in the world, he's the Matt Elliest.
  3. If the Sabres could eliminate own-goals while Levi is on net, his GAA would be halved. I don't think he can be blamed for those.
  4. Is there a stat that tracks how many times a goalie gets scored on off one of their own teammates? Levi could lead the league.
  5. I am not superstitious. I guess I am just regular stitious. We have some rituals like we wear the same jerseys for games and my wife puts on her "rally cap" if we are behind late in a game, but we don't believe it makes any difference in the outcome. It's just for the fun of it.
  6. It's understandable to forget about players on a perennial non-playoff team. Wait until they get a look at him come playoffs 2024. They will notice. Power and others. Playoff hockey is when the rest of the league, as well as many non-rabid fans, start to pay attention.
  7. This kind of reminds me of the 1980 US Mens Olympic Team. They had a tight unit forged by a good coach and tough training. They were also very young. After all the time they spent training together and meshing, coach Brooks brought in a good player to add some skill. But he was considered an outsider by the team and was eventually bounced out. It worked out well for that team, obviously. It is curous that very few of that team went on to enjoy good NHL careers though. They are still tight to this day.
  8. Great. Now I'm going to be worried for the next 6 years wondering how we are going to re-sign all of these perennial all-stars in 2030. Thanks a lot!
  9. When I played soccer and transitioned from goalie to midfielder, I had to re-learn how to play my usual fearless style without getting injured. I hope Mattias can learn how to play rugged while avoiding injuries. You have to pick your opportunities and avoid the reckless ones.
  10. If you read the release, it says the "Buffalo Sabres" named him president. I guess the players voted him in? No - the release would have said the Buffalo Sabres "elected" him president. Maybe there was a coup?
  11. We are thinking of going to the NY State Fair next weekend to see George Thorogood and the Destroyers. I don't want to have to stay overnight in Syracuse, but it's a long drive back home late at night otherwise. It will be my fourth attempt at seeing Thorogood. Maybe this will be the one!
  12. I think a 7th defenseman of Lybushkin's calibre could have made the difference in the 2006 Conference Finals versus Carolina.
  13. I think Boosch was our only excess D-man with any trade value. Not all of them can play at the same time. Makes sense in those terms, but I liked him.
  14. It seems that so many of those 1-30 numbers are retired now that they wouldn't have enough numbers left to field a whole team?
  15. "Mull of Kintyre" by Sir Paul McCartney and Wings?
  16. I love this song, but it is even more amazing how they recorded this....in an empty stadium (save for the everyday workers working there) and in the snow and cold. Even though it is not in a hockey arena, it has hockey season vibes. I appreciate all the common people on this board and our sometime ridiculous thoughts.
  17. I'm older than you by quite a few years and we are in the same boat. Other than watching my then-6-year-old brother getting OJ Simpson to sign his arm cast before a training camp practice, I don't think I have ever bumped into a professional athlete. Although, one time while flying from Buffalo to Salt Lake City, my wife and I were seated near some players who were in the prospect tournament. I have no idea who they were, but one of them was trying to stuff a huge leather duffel bag into the overhead compartment. I asked him if that was the bag of pucks we traded for him. His buddies sure got a laugh.
  18. I liked this, too. The fact that Eichel won the Cup with LV only helps Adams' reputation among league GM's since it is now a win-win trade.
  19. There have been a lot of discussions recently about who we should trade, when, and who we should get in return. This made me remember some of the trades that I wish we hadn't made. Who have the Sabres traded away that made you sad? Not trades that you felt were not warranted or where we did not get good value. But who was traded away that you personally liked and were sad to see them go? For me, it was Brian Campbell. I don't think he really wanted to leave, and his press conference was heartbreaking when he asked the fans not to boo him when he came back with his new team Who ya got?
  20. I personally don't have anything against common Russian people. The few I know are good, decent people. It is the people wielding power in Russia and oppressing its citizens as well as its neighbors that I despise. I don't agree with Hasek's notion of throwing out all NHL players from Russia. I think that is extreme, as well as a bit nutty. But I don't begrudge him having such strong emotions. He has always been a loose cannon. The war in Ukraine undertsandably amps him up even more.
  21. That's easy for someone to say who is not affected by the "terrible problems in life like politics, disease, etc." If my family was being killed, tortured, or oppressed by another country, or if I was affected by a terrible dsease, I would do everything I could to get my message out. Like you, I enjoy the escape from life's problems during a sporting event, movie, play, etc. But I don't begrudge those who's lives have been seriously damaged by those problems and who speak out about it. Now those who just whine about things.....? Yeah, give it a rest.
  22. I agree that the top 6 has only been modestly improved. However, the depth is tremendously improved. When injuries happen, we still have legit NHL defensemen on the ice.
  23. Also, many rescue squads, especially in rural areas, are staffed primarily with volunteers who drop what they are doing, dash to the squad building, then drive to the scene - for no pay. We do it solely for the benefit of our communities. Thank you for your support, nil. 😒
