I have no dog in the fight, but still think that the refs gave the Dutch that last game. I'm rooting for Costa Rica. They're not playing a great game today and they need one.

Sorry Heimdall.. Belgium played like the US today. The incredible stat I saw at one point during the Belgium vs Argentina game today was in the US-Beligium, Beligium outshot US 26 to 3. 26 ... insanity.

I wonder how the body is able to process such an over abundance of food without having some toxic negative effect. God only knows how many nitrates are in a hotdog, let alone 60 of them.

Hurricane Arthur is swinging close to the hood here. Well out to sea, but there won't be any fireworks here, I'm guessing. On the plus side, we have a 70 degree temp right now. That's a 25 degree drop from yesterday and the hum-dit-a-tee is gone...

Interesting, well argued. It also keeps all the players bunched together, including the defenders. I'm not suggesting doing it for the whole game, just the overage. Maybe suspend it everywhere but the box. Having to worry about what's behind you just might open up some more field. My issue with futbol is all the players play in the same area at the same time negating the advatanges of the enormous field. Streching things out a bit when players are clearly tired, may open up the scoring opportunities in overage. Putting a goalie at an enormous disdvantage in PKs seems remarkably unsporting. If you insist on PKs as the way to settle things, at least move the ball further back. It would be more exciting if the goalie had more than a lucky guess chance in stopping a PK.

My Bottom five If Carolina unloads Stahl(s), I think that is a pretty clear statement they are in the McDavid derby. Ottawa trading Spezza was a clear indicator that they will be competing as well. So Buffalo vs Isles games during the regular season (aka the only season in Buffalo these days) will be interesting to watch next year. They really will be loser bowls.

I'm really disillusioned by this news. Just when I was thinking the Bills were putting key cogs together, they lose a major cog to a work out injury. I used to fear the training camp injury. Now we have to worry about the off season workout injury.

Not to be the Debbie downer here, but my family has been through this. Realistically, he will lose part of his throat if he chooses to fight it. For someone who uses his voice as his living, I think you have probably heard his last game called; we just didn't know it. My Father went through this. It was beyond ugly. The radiation burned his throat so badly that he never recovered from it. And that was before they started removing parts of his throat. My father did not smoke. Sorry RJ. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

How about just suspending that silly offsides rule in extra time? That offsides rule is the biggest impediment to futbol being exciting to watch. And drop one defender on each team after 90 minutes.
