  1. Like it or not, we are alive today most likely because our direct ancestors did the killing, rather than being killed. It is the human condition. EDIT: "Most likely" is probably better stated "most definitely"
  2. Please don't play the victim card. I can only speak for myself, but I don't view Christians in a negative light. There is a progressive Lutheran Church here that I consider my family, as I participate in artistic events with them and am very close with the Pastor and many members. Technically I'm actually a member. These people are very dear to me, and they accept me no matter what my specific beliefs are. As I said, I find the words of Jesus very inspiring.
  3. Just curious: which version of the Bible do you use? Unless one can read it in it's original language, and refer to the oldest texts, one is [necessarily] basing all of their beliefs off of what other humans tell them it says, not what it actually says.
  4. I believe the thread title serves as the appropriate "trigger warning" ? enter at your own risk...
  5. Thank you, I appreciate it. I'm happy to say I'm not lost. I've never been more at peace with the universe in my entire life. Christianity did not bring me peace or comfort, unfortunately. I consider my existence a privilege and a wonder, and I hope you too have that same peace and wonderment in your faith that I have found.
  6. I agree; such a reference really does not promote civil dialogue
  7. With all due respect, I asked, I sought, and I knocked (for the first 20 years of my life). I was never given, didn't find anything, or have anything opened for me that would be considered Christianity. I did, however, come to find the words and teaching of Jesus (not so much the apostles) to be incredibly inspiring and enlightening. I find much of what he said about existence and humanity to be revolutionary and truly inspired. I also just happen to believe that he was merely human (of the most brilliant kind, mind you), but not divine. EDIT: I should add, I do not believe he is any more "divine" than you or I. As for the idea of divinity, I believe it's something we can all connect to and are made of.
  8. I'm very fascinated by this. What are the texts/passages that are pointed to as foretelling Muhammad and others? FWIW, I don't have a horse in this race ☮️☯️
  9. Here is some video of the hospital in the Bronx where my wife is an attending ER physician: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/11/opinion/sunday/coronavirus-hospitals-bronx.html My wife isn't in the video, but Dr. White is her boss I know @North Buffalo works not too far from here. To all healthcare workers and essential service providers: sending all positive energy ???
  10. I believe there may be a higher power/all-inclusive energy force that we may all be connected to, and somehow able to tap into, etc., and could possibly reconnect to after our lives (however, without any perception thereof, in a "human" sense) However, I believe, if we had the mental capacity, it would all be explainable in a scientific way. Given the fact that our universe is so beyond our comprehension, and that there is so much we can never have the mental capacity to understand, therein lies whatever force I believe in. And I believe the universe is beautiful, and pain and suffering were just a necessary part of evolution. I can't, however, believe in any "supernatural" forces/gods/spirits. I was raised Catholic, btw. I believe there is a natural flow and tendency to how the universe is unfolding, and "good" is trying to tune into that, and "bad" is resisting that For anyone who made it this far: does this sound vaguely like any established religion/philosophy? I'm very curious to read what people smarter than me have written about this way of thinking.
  11. I just ordered a Switch and Zelda BOTW & Link's Awakening I do considering my experience with A Link to the Past, c. 1993, to be life-changing, and playing Ocarina of Time in 1999 was transcendent. So far, BOTW is bringing me back to that place that OOT took me too. So glad I got it. Wife not so much.
  12. Does this mean JBots gets canned sooner?
  13. JBOT gets very high marks for this deception
  14. Faster than Jochen but not as strong along the boards, no?
  15. Trying to think of the NHL's perspective... Doesn't it kinda of make the league look silly/unprofessional if a pro team has to dress an amateur to play in perhaps the most critical position? Even if it does generate press, maybe they don't like the image it gives the league
  16. After seeing that McCabe shot replay... Sabres must be licking their chops at the thought of a 1-on-1 point-blank shot on Lehner
  17. He was barely coming off the bench when Vegas entered the zone. I saw Kahun calling for a change when Vegas had possession and were about to enter the zone
  18. Kalhun? Kahuln? Razor, you didn't practice the new name today
  19. He will never maintain his current shooting % with the Sabres... ?
  20. Yes, eliminated from the playoff race is what I meant
  21. Listening to NY football radio talk... they were talking about how great for the Jets it will be with no Brady... how the division will theirs. They talk as if this past season never happened, as if there's no question they are currently a better team than the Bills. How Darnold is so much more talented than Allen ("...yeah, Allen's a great athlete, but not a QB"). Can't wait to tune in when they are eliminated from the playoffs next season. It was a treat listening to them having nervous breakdowns this season.
