  1. Of all the things I thought people would be complaining about today, not one man or woman on here has said anything about the extremely annoying changes that Facebook made yesterday. The fact that everyone was talking about it, even on the radio and telly, should have been an indicator that what they did caused quite a stir. So, for everyone's amusement, I have the following: Facebook Changes
  2. Quantity over quality. That's why. I've heard better stuff coming from the Underground Trance world than from anything showing up on the Top 40 scene in recent years.
  3. Good choice! Alfred Brendel is one of the best concert pianists alive today.
  4. THIS! Also, let's not forget the piano sonatas of Beethoven and Chopin. Chopin was to the piano what Roger Neilson was to hockey: neither of them ever found a bride but both were "married" to what they loved to do.
  5. I remember when right before this previous Christmas, I was taking my DOT break out near the Rome/Utica area. I popped into Dunkin Donuts around there to grab a breakfast sandwich and watched the spin from the talking heads on CNBC saying that 2011 was going to be a really good year for business and stocks. Well, it's now September, and I haven't seen anything that resembles any sort of improvement. In fact, it's probably gotten worse. The Greek debt crisis has not helped matters any within the EU, and our economy seems to be tied into theirs. I knew back then not to take the CNBC Keynesians at their word, and I've been proven right. It just stinks for the rest of us who are struggling to provide for our families.
  6. I like most classical music. Some of the stuff that is like really modern/avant garde aka John Cage is not really my cup of tea. I can either take piano solo or accompaniment. I actually had a girlfriend back in the mid 90's who was a voice major at Roberts Wesleyan who sang a Mozart piece with piano accompaniment. Too bad I can't remember for the life of me what that piece was. :(
  7. Matt, IDK if you can dig some classical, but I at least hope this will be a bit more cheerful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwtYQec6u1w
  8. Man, I love listening to this as I drive through rush hour! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvZoRXQCrfA
  9. It's actually quite comfortable down here in Montgomery today. Should get no higher than 82 today. Makes it a lot more bearable to get housework done on one of my days off. :D
  10. I was looking up Ville Leino's hometown on Wikipedia, and I found something of interest... Are there times when you guys are fed up with the way your cell phones act up? Do you wish you could do something about that occasional dropped call? Then this event in Leino's hometown is for you! This was sheer coincidence that I stumbled upon this, but I figured that there are enough people who complain about their cellphone coverage and would like to do something about it.
  11. My over-the-phone interview that I had with my HR department for an internal position (which would have helped me come off the road and move to a management position that would have had me home just about every night) was done over a month ago. The position is still vacant, but HR has not called me back to let me know whether or not they are even considering me for the position. I spoke with my boss about it, and he told me that, in his words, "the wheels turn slowly over at HR." Yet, they are never at a loss for hiring new drivers. OTOH, I did ask him how things are looking for freight in a rather familiar market. He told me he would get in touch with an operations manager to find out. It would be nice to know for sure, because I am really feeling the urge to move out of Dixie (which is another topic altogether and something I can't discuss on here).
  12. There's never a dull moment in your life, is there?
  13. You're welcome. I'm glad to know that he can walk when the doctors initially thought that he might not even live. Yet, it also saddens me that he basically had his whole life ahead of him until that hit. I guess it could happen to any athlete, regardless of which sport it is. Hearkening over to the NHL, it's no wonder that there's been so much talk about drastically reducing head shots. But, there's bound to be that errant, coincidental, unintentional head shot that just simply can't be avoided. Hopefully, every league out there would at least exercise common sense instead of going into knee-jerk reaction mode.
  14. The News has a lengthy article today about former Bill Kevin Everett.
  15. If it's the same thing that they do at Highland Games, it's called a Caber toss. I'd have to get into some serious shape before this half-Scot even considers trying to do that.
  16. Just an FYI: I wasn't bringing politics into this when I posted the video. I just thought it was something a bit out of the ordinary.
  17. Something else I noticed when I watched that video. The President of Belarus also participated in the ceremony. In case you guys are wondering who he was, he was the one donned in the Belarus national jersey at the 2:14 mark of the video.
  18. On the same website, there is a link with a statement issued by Ruslan Salei's widow. EDIT: I think the Sabres organization would have done the same thing if this had happened to one of our opponents - no matter how much we fans may hate certain teams.
  19. Borrowing a joke from the late, great Rick Martin: "What do Billy Graham and the Buffalo Bills have in common? You can get 73,000 people to stand up on their feet and shout, 'JESUS CHRIST!!!'"
  20. I saw this video the other day and it made me think of this particular thread. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dimx_hn-Wi0
  21. I actually have a truck that works now. EDIT: Has anyone noticed that the F'N title for this thread matches the FN Center that our boys will be in this coming season?
  22. My latest complaint is that it can be extremely difficult to keep my mouth shut on some very charged topics when it is best to leave opposing parties to duke it out between themselves. Makes it hard for me to find something useful to occupy my time. EDIT: Now that it's Friday, the usual cast of characters will probably be back here next Thursday with something else to complain about.
  23. I guess she was driving under the effluence.
