  1. Funny you should say that. King was a gainsayer as well. I hope this thread helps (especially posts #3 and #6). Man, the company the Nobel Peace Prize laureates keep! :wallbash: EDIT: BTW, his birthname was Michael King, Jr., not Martin Luther King, Jr. Straight from the horse's mouth. To later on have the namesake of the great German Protestant Reformer is nauseating to say the least.
  2. Ask DeLuca. He explained what he believes in his usual extreme way. I was just showing that things have not improved in South Africa since the end of Apartheid and that I certainly would have done things much differently than Desmond Tutu did. There is nothing more inherently evil than sin. Apartheid was a symptom of it. I was not seeking to legitimize it. I was just trying to show how a "man of the cloth" used his position to oppose it when he should have been proclaiming Christ and Him Crucified. But, Tutu has his shtick and he sticks by it. At any rate, back to the topic at hand, why don't they allow every presidential candidate to debate instead of limiting it to just Democrats and Republicans?
  3. I sure hope you're not calling me a racist, because I certainly am not. I have said it before that we are all one human race and I hope that you have the "openmindedness" to understand that. At the same time, I am not legitimizing what was known as Apartheid. There are other ways to oppose it like there are ways to oppose chattel slavery (which William Wilberforce did - in which his conversion to Christianity had a large part to do with it.) What I'm saying is that I would not have done it the way that Desmond Tutu did it. (AFAIAC, Tutu is a heretical apostate, but that's digressing.)
  4. #snickering. I've never been a Bon Jovi fan, so the #awful line is apropos. I like edgier stuff like this: Same thing goes for Ratt. I couldn't stand them back when they started, and the thought of them now makes me #cringe.
  5. And you think you're smarter than everyone else? That was just your opinion. I was exercising something known as comparative politics, which is the practice of comparing nations (which was something that DeLuca was attempting to do upon a very flimsy premise with the intent of fearmongering). As for Desmond Tutu, the guy is an overall nutjob - and not just over his views on apartheid.
  6. That's his shtick. You're not going to be able to fix it. None of us can.
  7. You have got to be kidding me. Germany has one of the best economies in all of Europe. South Africa, however, has a very high homicide rate. But, I'm digressing just so I can show that when someone has the nerve to mention an American version of apartheid that whenever he has a thought, he needs to let it go instead of continuing to speak his foolish mind and spreading his poison. EDIT: here are the latest stats. Things may have improved over there - slightly. But still, it goes to show that DeLuca's extremism was way off base.
  8. As bad as people like Desmond Tutu made Apartheid out to be, South Africa has become nothing short of a hellhole since it was repealed with the ANC thugs in charge (who have had the "blessing" of the South Africa Communist Party). But, that's South Africa and not the USA so it's not our problem, right? As for returning the country to 1850, that suggestion is so laughable. Surely you couldn't be throwing out venomous rhetoric as a means of fearmongering, would you? Oh, wait. You do that all the time on here. We could go back to New Hampshire in 1639 where the definition of capital crimes was much different than it is today. :) Fixed
  9. Thank you. :) Thanks. :) #chuckling Not sure if you caught wind of this, but I came off the road back in April. I still drive a big rig, but I haul gas to gas stations/convenience stores. Getting home every night helps. As for owning the minivan, we got the title to it in the mail earlier this week. That's an extra $450 a month we can set aside for savings.
  10. That's only a symptom of what's described in this video:
  11. To steal something from the progressives, isn't that being discriminatory? He sure did attract the attention of a lot of young people. Too bad he didn't attract the attention of the hegemonistic Republican establishment. Makes me wonder if Henry Kissinger had a lot to do with this. True. Fixed. For a minute there, I was starting to mistake you for Sandra Fluke. This should be Biden's theme song that they play at the campaign rallies (definitely NSFW): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrgpZ0fUixs&feature=plcp Oh, and if this doesn't scream "The Company They Keep", nothing will.
  12. 1, exactly 2, wrong (althought both of them would have been more tolerable of Servetus than the Geneva city council was. Then again, everyone, including the Roman Catholic Church, wanted Servetus dead because of his propagation of his views on the Trinity.). Either way, Calvin has a point. It's all based on principle over politics - and these days it's easier to find a needle in a haystack as opposed to principle over politics (as evidenced by this thread). Post a video on YouTube for all of us to see when this happens. Let's not forget the money that got wasted during the whole Iran-Contra affair too. It blew up in their faces, so they needed a fall guy to take the heat for their mistakes.
  13. What do you mean "What?" Did that not make any sense to you?
  14. I came across this quote earlier today. Granted, I am not a fan of situational ethics, i.e. "WWJD" and have said so in the past. However, I thought that this was perfect. For Whom Would Calvin Vote? Q: "Calvin, should we vote for Mitt or Obama?" A: "And ye peoples, to whom God gave the liberty to choose your own magistrates, see to it, that ye do not forfeit this favor, by electing to the positions of highest honor, rascals and enemies of God." John Calvin (From his commentary on 2 Samuel)
  15. Gotta hand it to the unions. They know how to kill business. Gus Hall would be so proud of these boys.
  16. Seriously? You're asking me to defend Romney? I've said on here before that I am not a Romney supporter. But what kills me is that Obama said that his administration would be the most transparent administration in the history of the entire country (which it obvioulsy hasn't - especially with issues like Operation Fast and Furious that left a US Border Patrol officer dead and a complete lack of accountability on where all the guns involved are nowadays). Having said that, excuse my French but I call ###### - and so would Julian Assange.
  17. Never mind the issue of taxes. When I was driving over the road, I LOATHED going through CT (EDIT: not to mention the serious lack of truck stops for truckers to take their DOT breaks in CT - and only 1 TS in the entire state of Rhode Island on top of the fact that you HAVE to pay to park there overnight)! Although here's a piece of irony for you. NYS is not known for its hospitality like the South is. However, NYS has FAR better drivers than the South does. With all the talk of Southern hospitality, you wouldn't know it by the way they drive. So, that is one of the things that I do miss about NYS. Then again, you could try driving through France (skip to 6:14)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SM263HvB2w Thank you on all points. :) I miss the fall colors. It's just another reminder of the beauty of God's creation.
  18. Where in the world do you come up with this stuff??? You probably have the most wicked sense of humor on the entire board. As an aside for things that are awesome, things are happening pretty quickly down where we live. Since my wife's grandmother died a couple of months ago, we paid off our minivan and got our title yesterday. Now we're getting really close to buying a house and closing on it before the end of the month. After that, we're going to apply for an adoption.
  19. Have they really become this lazy? Ugh! Yet they still have to pronounce all those Slavic names on this side of the pond. Lubomir Visnovsky? Alexei Ponikarovsky? Oh, and who can forget Curtis Leschyshyn? I guess they figure that if they can't say a name fast enough three times, it's not worth trying.
  20. This was a really good post. As for the credit part that you mentioned, Ludwig von Mises staunchly opposed credit - and with good reason. He knew what would happen when a nation and its people get into out of control spending with no real money to back it up. Speaking of which, I'm not sure what your worldview is, but I thought I would share this article with you. Granted, it is a bit dated, but I am convinced that the information in it is still as relevant back then as it is today. (IIRC I've posted it on here before, but I think it's worth sharing again. Besides, I'm curious to see how our Obama über-supporters would react to that article. After all, blank checks never make for good fiscal policy.)
  21. Transparency is such a cute buzzword, you know.
  22. That is all in all possible. I just found it really bizarre that it was playing on ESPN. I was just like wondering, "What's Barry Melrose doing on ESPN?" Then I caught a few clips of the Moscow Dynamo game while my wife and I were having dinner at Logan's Roadhouse. How ironic, given that I live in a part of the country where American football is THE primary religion.
  23. Nice attempt at irony. In all seriousness, I wish we would get rid of our aggressive hegemonistic FP and just looked at establishing normal peaceful relations with other nations - no matter how big or small they are. I also wish that a majority of our churches would stop feeding into it while claiming to be Bible-based when they're actually "neocon patriots". Case in point: my wife and I visited one in the area where we live a few months ago. It was the day before Memorial Day. This congregation went waaaaaaay over the top in calling out veterans who served in our military in the past. It became evident to me in a hurry that it was not a service that would have any serious Scriptural exposition. Rather, it was full-blown patriotism all over the place. All I could think was, "Where is the Gospel in all of this? This is nothing but hubristic American patriotism trying to disguise itself as being blessed by God!" After all, are there not true Christ-centered congregations in other parts of the world that actually do preach the Gospel like Siberia? :o Oh, God forbid that there are Russians that actually hold a higher view of Scripture than some arrogant Yankees! Sorry for the rant, but the same pastor I linked to earlier in this thread has also said that our FP is largely governed by premillenial dispensationalist theology - and he is not happy with that at all because of the hegemony that it has encouraged. If we would be so humble as to admit that Keynesian economics has hurt us in the long run and ditch it, we would be much better off in the long run. Also, if we had a sound money policy, things would definitely not be so gloomy right now. However, if Ben Bernanke has his way, we might as welll all kiss it goodbye - regardless if Obama or Romney is in the White House in 2013. Much of it deals with Romans 13, which has been an oft-misapplied and oft-abused text of Scripture to silence those who would dare to speak out. Just ask Nazi Germany. At the same time, you could fast forward it to the 41 minute mark where he talks about a man in the White House who is a neo-Marxist [sic], and that his worldview was shaped by Jeremiah Wright for over 20 years.
  24. IMO the MSM has been given over to Satan. Look at all of the "half-truth" spin they throw out there (and half-truths are not the full Truth, which basically equates to lies). Look at how much they marginalize good Christian men and women. Look at how much they portray Government (not Christ) as "Lord and Savior" over all. Look at how much they take advantage of the First Amendment, yet cry foul when their bluff is called.
