  1. One of those 80s songs that has stood the test of time, along with "Our House" by Madness - which, while both bad and good, has been embedded in our minds because it was a product of its time. Speaking of period pieces, I still hate "We Built This City" by Starship. I have to listen to Cannibal Corpse to get that piece out of my head.
  2. It's been a long time since the Habs and the Isles have had playoff success. In fact, I think the Habs were the last Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup. This should be fun to watch, though.
  3. They'll get better when my wife gets me haggis for Christmas.
  4. My wife and I were watching the match while doing lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings. Last I saw was that he was being taken off on a stretcher, surrounded by teammates and white sheets lifted up for privacy. Update: Eriksen has been stabilized but remains in the hospital. Both teams have approached match officials about restarting the match where they left off, and the powers that be agreed.
  5. Wow! I don't hear of too many movies that are better than the original text. I certainly can't say that about Cecil B. DeMille's rendition of The Ten Commandments with its excessive embellishments and melodrama. I have to mentally block it out every time I read Exodus through Deuteronomy and let Moses be Moses (and not Charlton Heston) - and that's all I'm going to say on the matter. Having said that, has anyone read Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption and compared it to the movie? A lot of us know that The Shawshank Redemption was one of the best American movies ever made, but I have never read the book.
  6. Anyone up for some "preaching"?
  7. I can't find the old reading thread from a few years ago,, so I thought I'd start a new one.. After all, someone started one about favorite greasy spoon joints. Plus, this gets my mind off of our boys possibly attending an Andrew Peters golf clinic. Thus, I've started reading some books simultaneously. The Romanov Sisters by Helen Rappaport. Scimitar's Edge by Marvin Olasky. Far From Rome, Near to God, edited by Richard Bennett and Martin Buckingham. (Don't hold this one against me.) Medium is not important. It could be a newspaper or magazine article. It could even be something from BuzzFeed and other electronic media.
  8. The problem is that there don't appear to be any laws against this practice. It appears to be even worse in major metro areas as opposed to dots on the map. If it were up to us, this would be outlawed - but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Might as well take advantage of getting a place in the boondocks - if you can.
  9. FTR, this is not a political post. I'm just dumbfounded that anyone, ANYONE!!! (cue in Steve Dangle's screaming) would make such an impossibly asinine suggestion! This guy would lose in the first round of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?. I mean, come on! You got your JD from Baylor University, and you were a judge at one time, and you make such a fool out of yourself??? Not to mention that you are so bald, we can see the Sea of Tranquility on your head! Yes, Houston. We have a problem. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/lunar-new-deal-gop-rep-gohmert-suggests-altering-moon-s-n1270219
  10. Not to beg semantics, but I did say, "back in the day". Enjoy your lunch today, wherever it may be. 🙂
  11. I loved Ponderosa and Ruby Tuesday back in the day with the AYCE salad bars. There was also a small chain in Alabama called Country's BBQ. I heard that they only have one joint left in Auburn, which is a shame since their stuff was so good. Montgomery has this awesome Mexican restaurant called Sol Restaurante Mexicano & Taqueria. If you feel like venturing to Alabama and want great Mexican food, this is the place to go. For BBQ, I like Jim N Nick's. They picked up where Country's left off. Also, Mission BBQ. Aside from being veteran-friendly, they offer six different sauces with your meal. My wife and my MIL LOVE Chicken Salad Chick! I don't mind it myself. However, the decor and ambience has a distinctly feminine air to it. It's definitely not a biker bar.
  12. I don't see him going anywhere either - even though he and GMKA DID win the Cup together.
  13. It's not you. I don't think we're alone on that. The long of it and the short of it is this: We. Want. Results. Not excuses.
  14. I hear ya. It's easy to get in and stay in that nadir mindset. But, given this season's results, we have nowhere else to go but up. So, I'm not looking to fight either. I'm not as much of a pest as I was in the past, but I still like to think outside of the box. As for my snarky remark about hiring a coach who will eventually get fired, I got that idea from Bum Phillips. He once said that there are two types of coaches: ones that have been fired, and ones that will eventually get fired.
  15. I'm waiting for the nuclear reactor meltdown to commence on SS when the new HC is announced. Regardless of who gets hired (and eventually fired sooner or later), some posters on here will continue to display their perpetual pessimism over this team.
  16. Like how to best dissect an amoeba right down to the last millimicron?
  17. What gets me is that his surname is spawning tangents in my head with famous people from the past. Tyrone Power and E. Power Biggs, for example.
  18. Yup. Either the flats in my area are way too high or I make way too much money to rent in other areas that would appear to be rather decent. ATST, a fairly decent house around here starts at around 250K. And, to add insult to injury, many of the blocks of flats in Harrisonburg are solely dedicated to student housing for JMU. But that's ok. If everything goes according to plan, we'll be leaving Virginia for good before the end of the year.
