Granato and Ellis have Cleared Covid Protocol. Will join team
Curt replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
It’s not that they forget that offsides is a thing. It’s a timing and anticipation play. If you aren’t practicing it with your teammates in practice, your timing and anticipation of each other is not going to be there at game time. -
Anthony Angello, Frédérick Gaudreau, Radim Zohorna, Sam Lafferty, Colton Sceviour. These guys are all playing forward for Pittsburgh.

Rich got fired by the Sabres for being involved with a racial joke on the radio? -

What the heck does this science stuff or honestly stuff have to do with racially insensitive stuff on the radio? What does that study that you cited have to do with this discussion at all? The guys didn’t get fired for accurately discussing scientific studies on the radio. They didn’t get fired for speaking honestly from the heart. They didn’t get fired for bravely speaking the truth. They got fired for making a racial joke on the radio that would offend some listeners. I’m sure that their contracts outline the type of things that they can not say. -
Awaiting news on whether it’s a head injury. Hope he is ok. I really think he should go on LTIR. I don’t want to see him have major issues later in life.

Fixing the Defense - Maybe not as easy as you think

They are both LD, and Samuelsson probably needs another year, Johnson probably needs two. They would need to acquire a couple decent vets if they were left with that young 4. That’s if it isn’t a big rebuild scenario. -

Yup, I’m just tired of talking about. Plus there was evidence that his trade value around the league just wasn’t there. It might just be me, but I have a feeling deep down that by the start of the 2022-23 season Risto, Reinhart, and Eichel will all be gone. -
I might trade Hall for DeBrusk straight up. I guess it depends on what the talk around the league is on him though. Is he actually slacking?
-
Not exactly. Officially, the Sabres are not on a 14 game losing streak. They are on a 14 game winless streak. A game that goes to OT does not count as a straight loss. It’s dumb, but that’s how they do it.

Maybe, but the hiring of Lafontaine itself is just representative of the Pegula ownership issues. He was a great player of course, but was not qualified to be team president. He had no management or front office experience at all. The Pegulas hired him on a bit of a whim after having a nice dinner together or something like that, if my memory is correct. The fact that he left the organization just a few months later just shows that the Pegulas and LaFontaine were never really on the same page regarding how the team should be run. It was not a franchise inflection point, it was just the first in a long string of bad hires. The Pegulas have done a very bad job hiring for the Sabres. That’s been the major issue.

The NBA did something like this recently. The made 20-30 min videos where an analyst sat down with the draft prospect, did a short interview and went over some game tape, asking the prospect about why he did dis or dat in certain situations and breaking down some plays. It was kind of interesting. Its as much about introducing the next group of NBA players as it is about the game tape, but it’s interesting, it’s good marketing, and it’s not expensive.

Jonas Johansson makes his first start for COL tonight.

This is a funny thread. JJ is not very good right now. He is a good AHL starter or a crappy NHL backup. He is a #3/4 goalie. He is young enough that there is still a slim chance of him improving a bit and becoming a serviceable NHL backup, but he isn’t right now. Also, he is going to be a UFA at the end of this season anyway. We traded a couple months of a #3/4 goalie for a 6th round pick. This is a nothing trade. -
Wikipedia says: “By June 1, 2018, the Sabres were unable to sign Hagel to a contract and relinquished their rights to him.....” It’s not totally clear if he refused to sign or if Botterill declined to sign him. All I can add is that I remember when his deadline to sign passed and he was not signed, but I don’t recall hearing that he refused to sign, like what happened with Cal Peterson. I feel like we would remember if he refused to sign because it’s quite rare.

This article is getting a lot of run because it got on the yahoo main page. Really the whole article is the authors editorializing of a 2 min segment on SportsNet. If you listen to the segment, you actually get a better understanding than reading through all of this writer’s personal opinions on the topic. Link to 2min audio: https://www.sportsnet.ca/590/writers-bloc/will-cost-team-extract-jack-eichel-sabres/

(1) Mittelstadt is 22, 23 before next season. (2) Four years after their draft year, it doesn’t matter where they were drafted. Beyond that, you might be right. I’d like to see more from both of them this season. If it was me, I’d protect both of them.
