  1. This is the type of in depth analysis that I come to SabreSpace for.
  2. From Arizona, Garland is someone to put on that list. They are potentially looking to move him too. From NYR there are tons of potential options but not much for C’s. From LA Vilardi and Kaliyev are potential pieces. I heard that the Sabres are looking at hiring that 3rd grader to the scouting department. Just have to convince Pegula to buy the meth.
  3. Yup, this supposed very public falling out between management and Eichel literally has not happened.
  4. He is seen as a pretty sure thing to go top-10. He will be back on the ice from this injury in a few months. It’s not something that is going to be a long term issue for him, so I don’t see why this should cause him to drop from from top 10 pick to 2nd rounder.
  5. Basically what you are hoping for is that a team offers a trade that is a clear win. Yes, in that case it makes sense to take the trade. That goes for anytime you think a trade is a clear win. It doesn’t happen very often though.
  6. 3-10 most years probably. Like a Turcotte, Zegras or Cozens in 2019, like a Rossi or Lundell in 2020. But if you trade #1, it’s not like other teams don’t know what prospects are available. They know it’s a weaker draft, and that will affect the trade value. You aren’t trading a generic, average #1 overall. You are trading the 2021 #1 overall. Everyone knows it.
  7. I think they do have 1st overall value in this draft. Also Beniers is exactly the type of guy that Buffalo needs, in my eyes.
  8. Correct. I was responding to this post: Which seemed to basically be saying “You want a trade? Tough *****, you’re under contract.” I just wanted to stress that it wouldn’t go down like that. Yes, they could take some time (1 year max maybe) but they would have to make a deal eventually.
  9. To some extent this is true, but there are certain players who you can just see consistently grind it out on the ice. Guys who don’t play passively and who just won’t quit. Buffalo needs those guys, that’s part of it.
  10. This is not about the quality of player. It’s about the mindset. This team needs to acquire guys who are talented, yes, but just as importantly, have a team first, must win attitude and a resilience of spirit and confidence. This team needs a soul. I truly believe that is what is needed to exit this decade of futility. Come on, real world here. If he really seriously tells them that he is done, trade me. They are going to find a trade for him. They don’t need to take the first offer that comes their way, but they will trade him.
  11. Yeah, sure. If he and Pegulas both want to do that, and if there is a quality internal candidate who deserves it, then it makes sense.
  12. If Adams succeeds in turning around a decade of futility, I’ll probably be in now hurry to push him out of the GM seat.
  13. Here is another full game of Owen Power if anyone is interested.
  14. I agree. It’s a little reassuring, because that was one of the main things that Adams discussed when he was hired. Incorporating analytics into their pro/amateur scouting. It would be nice to see action taken on that front.
  15. A couple things from Expected Buffalo’s most recent podcast. (1) Chad D has heard that the hiring of Jason Karmanos is almost certainly a question of when, not if. (2) The Sabres have contacted Bruce Boudreau. Chad was careful to stress that he knows nothing beyond that (when? why?) just that they have contacted him semi-recently.
  16. Ladies can crank out irresponsible trade speculation just as well as any man can! (Did you use the term sausage fest appropriately? It’s supposed to be a gathering out event with lots of guys and no gals. Circle jerk would have been a more appropriate term for our self serving trade fantasizing.)
  17. I think that’s the best deal that you’re NOT going to get. I don’t see LA doing that.
  18. I understand the Sabres issues. However, the use of “Euro” as a derogatory term is an old hockey thing which we should all try to launch to the moon. We don’t need it. I can’t be certain, but if he was Canadian, I doubt very much that the thought would have even occurred to you to include his area of origin into the insult.
  19. How about a cowering N. American? Would that be more pleasing to the people of Buffalo? My point is, although it may have been in jest, there is no need for the bring the regional/cultural insult into it. There are plenty of players from North America who play absolutely gutless hockey, and many European players who routinely grind them into the ice.
  20. What’s your view on Roman Schmidt and why he can not develop into a shutdown defender?
  21. You guys are trying to apply NHL team needs to a prospect (Schmidt) who probably isn’t going to be NHL ready for 4-5 years. If you like the guy, that’s fine, but don’t draft him because of what is on the Buffalo Sabres roster today. Not only is 4 years a long time with regular roster turnover, but I would bet that this team is going to undergo a major roster upheaval in the next 18 months. Just go for the players who you think are going to be the best NHL players, and also who you want to see in a Sabres jersey one day.
  22. I think he has like another 2-4 weeks, no? Broken arm isn’t quite unbroken yet.
  23. Not saying that this will happen, but I think the issue is money. He would like to be paid like one of the top coaches in the league, and thus far the Carolina owner has been unwilling to give him an extension with that type of $$$.
  24. They can resign him in the offseason. If he doesn’t want to be in Rochester/Buffalo then they were going to lose him for nothing after this season anyway.
  25. If this scenario plays out, my confidence in the organization moving forward would skyrocket.
