JBots isn't looking to build a team to win the cup next year. He is building a team to try to be a contender every year. You don't do that overnight. You identify your corps moving forward and build around them...mainly through the draft. I think he took the year to assess the players and scouting department what was in the cupboard. You have two world class talents in Dahlin and Eichel to build a team around. That is a great starting point. Those picks he got for ROR could turn out to be valuable players for the organization for years to come. Mittlestadt looks to be a great prospect and I am sure he will build a winner if given the time. ROR is a great player and probably in his prime but the Sabres don't really need him now. They'll need people in their primes in 3 or 4 years. I would've love to see him come here but too much dough.

I hate to see Armia go but we are loaded with bottom 6 players and we need room for Roslo and maybe Vaseline or Lemieux (both ELCs). We'll miss him on the PK. I would have moved Myers and his 5.5m cap hit but they are talking about playing him on the left side with Buff. He did horribly on the first pairing with Morrissey when Trouba went Trouba. Perreault and his 4.1m deal is another one I would move for cap space and letting a youngster play.

Number two is bang on unless he is an important leader of the team. I'd love to see ROR in a Jets uni more than Stastny but too much cap hit. JBots should get a king's ransom for him.

Sorry but JT is coming to Winnipeg to play between Laine and Ehlers boys. 100 point seasons are on their way... 1.25 USD exchange rate and he is smiling all the way to the bank. Seriously though, if he doesn't re-sign, I think he goes to a contender which makes me question reports of him talking with Dallas. I just hope he does't go to TO...the fans would be unbearable.

I actually wouldn't mind Lehner as a back up getting about 27 games a year. The price would have to be around the 1.75m range though. I like Mason and his 4.1m would open up some cap space but he would be good if Helle went down. They are talking about playing Myers on the left side paired up with Buff. Did he ever play that side for the Sabres? I was hoping they would move him this summer and free up 5.5m. He plays 3RHD behind Trouba and Buff and I really don't see the need for him. Poolman at 1m is more than adequate as a 3RHD. Myers and Buff cost us a combined 13.1m and are our 2nd pair??? Something not right there so I was just wondering if he ever played the left side while in Buffalo.

Congrats on getting the McDavid of D men... He should team up nicely with Eichel. They'll be great for each others careers. I can't say because I don't know but I have read that the Sabres did a good job all the way through the draft. JBot is building the team smartly. The draft was pretty boring for me with our first pick at 60 but what about the Preds? No draft pick until the 4th round? Wow...

Wow, nice payday for Carlson...I'd be swiggin back a few beer tonight if I were him. Do you think the Sabres would have any interest in Mason? He played well for us after his first two starts but couldn't stay healthy.

ROR should almost get you their first and Hanifin by himself. If ROR is going to Carolina, JBot should be asking for Staal.

Dahlin should help Eichel get 90 or more points this upcoming year. TSN said he was the best D prospect since Denis Potvin...that's pretty high praise.

I am clueless most of the time but why would the Sabres trade ROR? Is the talk around the campfire that he is available? We probably wouldn't make very good trade partners but I'd love to see him in a Jets' jersey.

So, the Sabres get the Sharks' 1st this year? Nice pick up in a good draft year. GMJB won't trade it. You can get a very good player in the first round regardless if it is 20 or 30. Wow, 49m for Kaner? Someone that hasn't ever scored more than 30 goals with his track record? He has only hit 50 points twice... Wow. Teams with short memories. Kaner will like it there though, a short chopper ride to Vegas, no? Three team trade list? Holy, who is his agent? Having said that, I expect Kaner to do well into about his 2nd year before he starts acting up again. SJ will regret this contract. Chevy signed Scheifele to 6.125m and Kaner gets 7m? Wow.

Is there no "ignore" choice on here? If someone doesn't want to read my comments, ignore me. Simple. No, not you, the solution. I am on this board 3-4 times a week but sometimes don't even sign on. This is a Sabres' forum and I don't know the history or the make up of the team and organization of the team as well as most posters which is why I mainly comment with my opinions on what I think of certain players or people in management. I had to look up what comeuppance was because I thought my definition was wrong...it wasn't. Not sure what you meant by the comment but water off of a Ducky's back. Find the ignore button if I am too smug now that I have got my comeuppance... The Jets will be back in the playoffs. Whether they can get out of the division is the question. There's still a few gems in the system that will join the team in the next few years. My thoughts on your Sabres going forward is that you might have to get a bit worse or stay the same as you integrate some of the younger players into the system and live with a another year or two of pain before you start seeing the youngsters pay off. There's a pretty good core of players to build around after you get Dahlin and a starting goalie. I don't think GMJB is going to trade away high draft picks like GMTM did.

Not all Winnipeg fans are smug. How can you be we are about to get knocked out of the playoffs? Jets will win today but won't win the series. MAF won the series for them. We're being out-goalied.

The Jets play the biggest game of their existence tonight whether it be 1.0 or 2.0. MAF is single handedly beating the Jets. Some of the saves he made in the third period of the last game were spectacular. It seems the only one that can score on him is Scheifele. Scheifele has 14 goals and the playoff record is held by Reggie Leach (from Riverton MB about 1 1/4 hours north of here. I do a lot of duck hunting up there) and Kurri...both had 19 one year. He has already set the record for road game goals in the playoffs. If someone else doesn't start scoring, we won't make the next round.

You can't trade away a vet like ROR unless the return is silly good. I would think he is part of the core that you build the team around. You can't expect Middlestat to be a 2C in his first year in the league. Draft smart and don't trade first round draft picks like GMTM did. You guys have the makings of a really good team there if management does't try to rush things. Dahlin will be a Norris Trophy contender for years.

I think he is.The only decent game he has played this series is the 4th. The other games he.has been sub-par. Jets in 6!!!!!!!

Officiating was horrible but what can you do. It was horrible both ways though. Does PK have pics of Bettman with farm animals? Also, PK loses more and more respect (none left now) every time he plays like that. Almost doesn't make it to the bench and miraculously recovers by next shift. Almost as dirty as Marchand too. I still say the Jets in 6 to win it at home.

Congrats guys... I was pulling for you. Dahlin is another piece for the core of your team! What a great year to pick first overall. Nice to see the Oilers drop a spot and the Canes move up too.

Helle stole us a game and Rinne helped out too. Goaltending has been huge this year but I would say the story has been depth. A player goes down and the next guy up steps up. We played game 5 against Minny with our whole starting left side D men not playing. Myers is a liability in his zone 70% of the time. He was playing well with Kuli in a 3rd pairing role with some 2PP time but we have enough O from the back end and Morrissey is just starting in that regard. I'd love to see Chevy ship Myers and Perreault over the summer. Almost 10m of salary there and Enstrom's 5.75m is off the books as of this season. Plus, we don't have a first round pick this summer.

I think the winner of the Jets/Preds will play TB for the cup. I sure hope it's the Jets.

The Jets played the last game with their 1LHD, 2LHD and 3LHD not starting...also Perreault and Ehlers were out hurt and Armia missing most of the game and Myers playing hurt. Helle got his 2nd straight shutout and the Jets dominated them in the 1st period big time. Go Avs go.
