  1. When we tanked, we not only rid ourselves of our experienced talent pool who could mentor, we rid ourselves of several draft picks trying to speed up the process. Boston has Chara, Bergeron and Marchand to get in a kids face and tell them what and how to do it, plus still have the ability to do it themselves. Who do the Sabres have to do that same mentoring on this team?? So our young guys are supposed to be leaders?? Can you imagine Samson standing up to Marchand when he tells him to get his MFn butt in gear and start playing. No I didn't think so. On top of that we are basically getting nothing from our bottom 2 lines and kids that should have started and learned in Rochester were pushed thru before they were fully ready for the NHL. Hopefully Botts has a long term plan that adds to the mix, Bylsma tried to hide the weaknesses of this team and it didn't get him anywhere. If anything he at least got some production out of Reinhart. Housley appears to say that we're going to play my style no matter if we have the horses to do it or not. So we may have to wait until our ponies turn into horses and then training the new ponies. We are losing but the effort is improving and the style of play is WAY more entertaining than the past 2 years, lets see.
  2. I agree with most of these items, Samson has earned alot of the scorn he's receiving but I thought he played a responsible game the past 2 games. I'm hoping he's turning a corner here but he doesn't appear to have another gear to step up to, you never see this guy take over a game even for a single shift. Wasn't the 2014 draft the one where Boston was blasted for missing on their 1st round draft choices?? Maybe I'm wrong Other notes The defense is playing much better, Antipin and Balou played ok and add speed to the mix Bogosian has played well since he's come back. Yes he's making a lot of money but he's far from the biggest problem we have Pouliot had some glorious opportunities but didn't cash in. When we're praising the effort of waiver wire pickups it goes to show what little depth we have on this team and why the tank had more ramifications than just picking up Jack and Samson We are also a bad passing team, how many opportunities are lost a game when the pass is behind, in the skates or just plain miss the intended player. Must be 10 a game. For a 1-0 game, I thought it was pretty entertaining especially for a Sabre game. Boston is playing really well lately, that actually was a pretty good showing for a last place team. This is such a HAPPY place when we lose.
  3. Yes but Lehner went down to early
  4. Pretty good game so far. Samson playing hard , you're a little too hard on him Thorny Me too
  5. The Sabres try to continue their better play of late by hosting the bahstan bruins tonight. the game is being broadcast on NBCSN at 7:30ET. I have to admit we must get awesome TV ratings out of Buffalo to keep getting National games with the product we've produced this year. LETS GO BUFFALO ESPN Preview http://www.espn.com/nhl/preview/_/gameId/400962120 BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Consistency remains a problem for the Buffalo Sabres as they look to turn things around for good. Buffalo will look to put forth a more consistent effort on Tuesday night in a nationally-televised home game against the Boston Bruins. The Sabres (8-18-7) are coming off one of their better offensive efforts of the season on Friday against the Carolina Hurricanes. In that game, former second overall pick Jack Eichel delivered his first career hat trick but the Sabres ultimately came up short in a 5-4 overtime defeat. Those outcomes are the story of the season in recent weeks for Buffalo. After a dreadful stretch in November that saw Buffalo lose 11 of 12 games, the Sabres have been better as of late but have yet to see it pay off in the standings. Buffalo has points in five of its last six games but has also lost four of its last five games (1-1-3). "There was a lot of good things, but at the end of the day, we only get one point," Eichel said after the loss to Carolina. "It stings a little bit. "It's not good enough to get a point. It seems like it's been the reoccurring theme here of late. We've had good effort and put ourselves in games and had opportunities to win and we're coming out with overtime losses." Sabres coach Phil Housley continues to stress consistency, structure and urgency in Buffalo's play on the ice. "It's just those little details and I continue to talk about it, our play without the puck," Housley said. "It's that urgency that something bad could happen, and (against Carolina) it did." With 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists), Eichel is second on the team in scoring. Evander Kane (14 goals, 17 assists) has been Buffalo's best and most consistent player this year and leads Buffalo in scoring. One bright spot for Buffalo has been the play of goalie Robin Lehner, who has really come on as of late. Lehner has a save percentage of .911 in 25 games played this year. The Sabres could get some help sometime this week as Jacob Josefson looks to return from an ankle injury. Josefson has missed much of the season due to injury but has performed well as a depth player when in the lineup. Boston (16-10-5) is entering a busy period of the schedule; the Bruins are in the middle of a stretch of three games in four days and seven games in 10 days. The Bruins head to Buffalo following a big 7-2 win over Columbus on Monday night at home. Improving on the power play was a focal point after struggling in a Saturday overtime loss to the New York Rangers and the Bruins came up with two power-play goals in the second period against Columbus to open the flood gates on offense. "It was good to get the first goal," Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said after his team scored the first three goals. "It's always an advantage, especially at home, to get the other team chasing the game." Charlie McAvoy scored a power-play goal and added an assist. Fellow Bruins rookies Danton Heinen and Jake DeBrusk played key roles with a goal and two assists. Heinen has four goals and nine points in the last seven games. David Pastrnak leads the Bruins in scoring with 31 points (15 goals, 16 assists); Brad Marchand is second in scoring with 29 points (14 goals, 15 assists). Both Tuukka Rask (.912 save percentage) and Anton Khudobin (.915 save percentage) have excelled between the pipes.
  6. My only issue with this is, if a team trades for him are they also making a ROR deal with him beforehand so they don't just give up assets without retaining him. I'm guessing anyone who trades for him has already made indirect contact with his agent to see what he wants for his next contract and his possible willingness to stay there.
  7. Actually I thought Sam played a good game yesterday, he was engaged, I've been disappointed in him this year also but hopefully this is a start.
  8. Latest rumor is there are a ton of inquiries on ROR
  9. Kind of tough on the kid don't you think??? You weren't disappointed in Reinhart until he was 22
  10. That was my take on the play, Kane didn't clear the zone and then after a long shift it appeared (I'd rather take the high road) Sam and ERod were out of gas and couldn't get back. If we score 3-4-5 goals and win the game, I don't think the play is noticeable, but when you score 1 and it's the winning goal and your team is playing like doodoo most of the year, it becomes a highlight play that everyone remembers. I also remember the member formerly known as Thorny blamed Bogosian on the play. I agree with him most of the time but in this instance I don't have a clue what he was looking at because Bogo had his man covered IMO As for Reinhart, I'm beginning to think he doesn't work in the offseason on his game enough. I don't see improvements in his game from year to year. Having said that his line of Kane and ERod did have the most dangerous chances although he's not leading the charge. I also think it's noteworthy that ERod is the C on that line and Sam is his winger instead of the other way around. I think that says alot about what the organization thinks of him at the Center position.
  11. He actually played 65 games that year not 56, not picking on you but want to make a bigger point ROR????? In the last 2.4 years (this year counts as .4) ROR has played 8 yes 8 more games than Kane. Why is one labeled often injured and the other not??? The only guys who've played 82 games for the Sabres the past 2 seasons are Gionta last year and Risto the year before Who has played the most games the past 2 seasons combined............................... Moulson!!!
  12. It's turning into an entertaining game
  13. Has Bogosian somehow turned into our best Dman??? He's been solid lately
  14. I'm with you unless Botts does hit a HR with a trade. As for his injury history, the last 2 with Buffalo were freak injuries into the boards, it's my opinion he appears to have cut back on his recklessness and has matured as a player this year.
  15. I like East Coast games, Flyers home jersey's have to be the ugliest ones in the league, We have 25 wins, 51 losses and 12 ties in Philly We haven't beaten them in Philly since 2015 Last win versus the Flyers was last year, Nilsson had 39 saves and Reinhart had a goal and 2 assists in that game Last game Lehner played in Philly he gave up 6 goals in a loss, Risto was a -5 but Jack did have 2 goals and an assist in that game. Also the fans favorite Gudas had a goal and 2 assists Steak Hoagies are much better than Philly Cheese Steaks Flyers are tied for first in Stanley Cup Finals appearances since 1974 with 7 We have 2 appearances 75' and 99', so if history repeats itself we'll be back in 2023 LETS GO BUFFALO
  16. Now the Senators beat the Rangers last night Explain that one Maybe there is hope
  17. He needs a shorter stick, it's too long
  18. Observations Bogosian with the most TOI of Dmen for 5v5 yesterday Now that he's rounding into shape it seems he has McCabe playing better lately with him also Girgensons best game of the year and might have been RORs best also Samson just seems lost the majority of this year, he was the weakest link of the Kane-Rodrigues line, blew an awesome pass from Kane that didn't hit the net and he was ALL ALONE. Ottawa looked like a team on a losing streak that's been on the road for too long. Eichel looked Jackish Pouliot is without a doubt our pickup of the year, he may actually get us something at the trade deadline if we don't resign him Gorges actually completed a pass yesterday, WOW Our 4th line of Wilson and Nolan aren't scoring options but seem to make it hard to play against. Nolan with 2 big time hits, surprised no-one went after him on the 2nd 6 points in 4 games, when was the last time that happened??
  19. Not to pick on anyone in particular but of these past few posts on what we'll get for Kane.......... He's the 7th leading scorer for LWs in the league and has over 40 goals in the past calendar year. Plus he's in the prime of his career. I'll be very disappointed in Botts if he only gets what some of you have posted, Andersson who's accomplished nothing so far and Bennet who's a bigger bust than Samson??? There better be another prospect (Valimaki??) included
  20. Dang who had the one before Samson???
  21. Very nice, that's 42 goals for him since December 3rd last year
  22. I would say No 1) Because we stink and by the time we're ready, he'll be 40 2) If he can't save Ottawa how is he going to save us 3) He's a -16 in +/-, can you imagine him, ROR and KO on the ice together???? Geez 4) I'd rather have Adam Boqvist and hope he develops at #3, I'm still hopeful we'll finally win the lottery and get Dahlin, don't ruin my dream 5) Ottawa won't trade him.
  23. This looks like a 1 page GDT??? LETS GO BUFFALO That didn't take long
  24. It's OK, we all know you were stealing Mustasch av gud's thunder, he'd been predicting that for a month now.
