I believe he doesn't get a pass for next season. If there isn't a jump in wins from this season he will be in the hot seat. If your total measurement is playoffs than yes, he get a pass for next season also. There has to be noticeable improvement from one year to the next for him to keep the job. As bad as our goalies are this year the team is much improved. It's almost a stroke of luck (if this is a tank year) our 3 best goalies will miss almost the entire season.

Love your optimism!

I would not be surprised if one or both of Johnson/Bryson are traded for an equal prospect that is RHD. A true hockey trade.

It would be an exception from most of the previous 15 years of drafting. To string together multiple years of good to exceptional drafting has not been done by the Sabres since? The other half of that is allowing your picks to mature in a good environment. That I believe actually started under Boterill and KA has doubled down on it.

Good= 2 players per year that in 3-4 years from their draft year become NHL players that are in the starting lineup for a team for a minimum of 5 years. Exceptional= 3 players per year that in 2-5 years from their draft become NHL players with at least 1 player considered top 16 in the NHL at their position. KA's floor needs to be good, I am expecting more towards exceptional with the staff he has assembled.

We where supposed to be worse than Arizona and Ottawa by a lot this year. We lost our 2 best players, our stud defenseman, our best goalie. Yet here we are looking better than last year at this time. Beating teams that us as fans really think we should beat because we are *better* and more talented.

For one more year! edit. I don't believe that Philly has bottomed out yet. A coaching change could/should help. But that roster has serious problems without much in the pipeline. It's not as if next year they are going to bring in 2-3 young-ins and acquire some veteran help. Talk is that Claude is on the deadline trade wires. Their best player who is in his last year of his contract has a good chance of not re-signing with Philly. That Ristro trade looking more brillant.

If your paying with seconds or thirds what term of contract are you looking at for a goalie? I would like one with at least 3 years term for a second round pick that is considered a starter. I'd do that but I just don't see one coming available unless covid is a bit of a distant memory.

Over the last 10 years my number one cause would be the talent factor. The second factor would be medical staff. That is because of Jack and Robin injuries. But the man games lost should be lessening if these things are being corrected if true.

I have no problem spending Pegula bucks on an overpaid player for short term. I would not like to seem them pay with draft or trades for short term gain.
