  1. I just said that in another thread. Is it intended, as in, a joint tank by coach and GM? Or Is the coach so horribly inept (and not his hire) that the GM is getting another year to build a team thanks to the owner's hiring of a big name coach? So a free pass for the GM.
  2. GMTM could also have his cake and eat too. Get another high round draft pick this year thanks to an inept coach (maybe) while getting another free year building the team. The reason I say *maybe* is, what if this year was intended? Fitz and fuddle and bumble players together, add a ridicules dump and chase scheme that is the polar opposite to this teams strengths, and wind up at the bottom of the standings? Intended or not? I'm almost positive GMTM didn't envision this season going as it has, but if there is no saving it, why hire a good coach to have a push to 9th? Leave the season ride out and reap the rewards of being a seller at the trade deadline and get a high(er) draft pick.
  3. Can't tell me this line up isn't heads-n-shoulders better than last year even, yet we are hoping for more production. Why?
  4. Remember last year at this time they just got done playing the *hardest* 2 months of hockey for their season, they had just played all the best teams in the league. The last 2 months of the season they looked *improved*, they just played bad teams. January and February of 2017 are their hardest months for this season. If they go .500 we will be very lucky and they will have to play a much better game. Playoffs are a dream. The same amount of points at the end of the season as last year are wishful thinking. The additions in the summer of 16 should have made this team better. This teams record should be much better at this point in the season. edit: Grading.... Player effort B+. Coaching C-. The players are trying but spinning their wheels in the coaching mud.
  5. No, licking the glass.
  6. Boom. Its time to listen more than watch. Got things to do.
  7. Anyone else catch the window licker behind the Sabres bench?
  8. Bang head on wall. Do it again. That's has the same effect as trying to understand our line ups.
  9. Frustration. This team is getting out coached again and the players are getting chippy because they have no other answers. Leading in hits a is not a good thing.
  10. Dan, let it go. Nice shift
  11. Must be really cold in NC cause them poor folks are wearing hats and jackets. It just breaks my heart.????
  12. Old guys had a great day!
  13. Make my Friday boys!
  14. That Falk kid just keeps making Gorges more and more disposable.
  15. Very pleasing on the eyes. Not to bad on the ears.
  16. Please, please all of you! Try to temper your enthusiasm. All this talk of booze is making me thirsty.
  17. ^ Your opinion is a as valued as anyone's opinion. I see no problems with you posting anywhere.
  18. Now that's more like it! Way to get in the spirit! I hope you're wrong also, the part about not winning the cup. Several trips to the finals and a cup or two would be just Jim Dandy.
  19. Dam you NS you made me look! All this nice guy stuff is just a ruse! I am very happily social media deprived, ignorance is total bliss. Mrs. Racer is on FB, she stays in touch with my entire family except my Dad. Him and I call each other and are very happy dinosaurs.
  20. The Matt Ellis of Sabres players for 2016-17 is gone? Someone please shed a tear. Someone ????
  21. They may not be All Star worthy but... Andrej Meszaros Andre Benoit we are not that far removed, and it is a very big upgrade from the past.
  22. Thank you for that, I completely forgot about the red line so that makes sense as to why the trap has evolved and been renamed. But it still goes back to the dump and chase offense that should predicate your defensive scheme. 1.If you dump, you need chasers. 2.If you have no chasers, you're just turning the puck over. 3.If you play a passive 2-1-2 you're playing a passive dump and chase. 4. see 1. The variations of all the trap defensive schemes are totally reliant on a puck control offense, which we don't do. So we can only play defense well once we employ an aggressive 2-1-2 which is what Dan does once we're down a goal or two. It's the light switch to me. I missed the second word. I'm not re-reading to find it, I'm just running with the assumption it's as valuable to me as the first one I learned the meaning of.
  23. I love this talk  and I agree with you. Dan changes his schemes several times during the course of a game. It's called so many different things and depending on the coach/ situation and how passive or aggressive he tells his forward to play it, another scheme can easily be seen as the trap. I think they start out every game a passive 2-1-2, playing not to lose. It's not until they are down a goal that they get to *free* it up and the second forward is allowed to attack/press/go deep into the zone more. It's when they are down 2 goals that it gets real fun. Dan's hand is played out and he must tell them to go on the attack. It's still a 2-1-2 but the third-man is down very low and is often times seen below the goal line. That's when this team shines. All that skill and vision with out having to grind for a puck or battle for the dump in. Quick passes to the front/behind the net finding the open man, the defense get nice looks because the opposing team is all within a stick length of the goal line. As soon as they tie it up or get a 1 goal lead they get very passive. The turtle/prevent/playing to lose is not this teams skill at all, so it's sad and disheartening that Dan keeps forcing them to do it. Edit: They aren't equal, but they do get confusing as to what to call them depending on the passive/aggressive stance, they need a name and trap is as good as any. Coaches are trying to trap the offense, the NJ style was in the neutral zone, the others are a little further into the offensive zone or right at the red line. Double edit; YES! on the *all 22* If knew how I would love to sit in a dark room and do that all day.
  24. That would be great if Pegula is on Craft's *learning curve* time line. It still requires a large amount of luck to be as successful an owner as Craft.
