I am not well versed on the specifics but a player on a full ride at school is an “amateur” while a player in the CHL getting a small stipend is a “pro”. This reminds me of how the USSR teams of the 70’s and 80’s were considered amateurs for the purpose of playing in the Olympics. They weren’t rich but were drawing a wage as members of the Red Army. They were paid for their military service even though their only drills were hockey related.

I’ve watched most of the Rangers/Pens, 1/3 of Caps/Panthers and now Flames/Stars. Playoff hockey is so much more intense, can’t wait for the Sabres to get there.

I feel the same way. I remember asking my parents how old they felt. They were in their 70s at the time and both said they still thought of themselves as being in their late 50s. I am now in my late 50s and I kind of feel like 40-45. Some mornings I feel like 70 though. I find it interesting that I “feel” about 15 years younger than my actual age, like my parents did.

Hellebuyck is intriguing indeed. It would be a big move. I don’t know if they make him available though, the only coach retained was Wade Flaherty, the goalie coach.

Yeah, the Covid factor will be felt for a few years. The development of some provinces up here was pretty much lost for a year or more. Our scouts and analytics guys need to find some diamonds in the rough. Quinn is a great example, Bloom is another one that didn’t have any hype but really improved.

The 3 1st round picks will help perpetuate the way KA is building this team. They are young and talented and there needs to be some more guys in the hopper as people age out, move on or are traded. Assuming Quinn, JJ and UPL make the team next year, the Sabres will be loaded with players that were high picks. 12 players were 1st rounders, 9F and 3 D. 4 we’re 2nd rounders, 2F, 1D and 1G. The outliers are VO (7) and Bryson (4). In the pipeline are 1st rounders Johnson and Rosen. This is a weaker draft but they should be able to find some NHL talent in the first 41 picks. The future is bright and KA and staff seems to want to keep doing it the right way.

I listened to a podcast this morning that had Craig Button as a guest. He is at the U18 tournament in Germany and he said there were 150 NHL team staff over there, including some GMs. Sabres must have some scouts and hopefully they considered talking to the kid. I hope his treatment is going well, he may go much later than was expected months ago and turn out to be a solid NHLer.

Ottawa reaching with Tyler Boucher is certainly different than picking the 14th ranked guy 10th. I’ve watched Boucher play 4 playoff games vs North Bay and he has tools but does not look like a 1st rounder.

Sense Arena is the VR software used by Levi, he got into it during the Covid-19 shutdown. The other prominent goalie using it is Merzlikins.

That is a good sign that Levi is watching. Cozens and Krebs are friends of his. I read somewhere yesterday that Levi is into some Virtual Reality training software. The article was saying there are two current NHL goalies using this as well. Grubauer was one of them, I’ll search for the story and post a link.
