Levi resisted the urge to turn pro last year because he wanted to develop his game more in the NCAA. He is not dominating the goalie stats like he did last year but I suspect the team is weaker. Maybe he can make the jump to the NHL but he seems like an intelligent kid that wants to feel comfortable before taking the next step. His contemporary, Spencer Knight, spent a short amount of time in the AHL. I suspect Levi may get some NHL games this year but that he and the Sabres will expect him to be in Rochester next year.

Crosby could have maxed out and got 12-13 in his prime. You are right about Tage going for security but he could probably sense he could have made more waiting for the season to end. I think he wants to be a part of this team. Dahlin getting $10 would be a great deal for Buffalo. Cozens’ deal may set the tone for Quinn and Peterka. The cap space the Sabres have will be used up faster than we think. Bettman hinted at nearly no cap raise yesterday. The Sabres can lock up the core on “cheap” long term deals due to them coming off ELCs and/or being RFAs.

I realize the chance of this happening is low but Crosby, Bergeron, Marchand and others left millions on the table in order for the teams to get more good players and keep their teams competitive for a long time.

There are three teams out of the playoff picture with a positive goal differential, Washington, Florida and Buffalo. I am not an analytics guy but this used to be Scotty Bowman’s measure of a good team. If the Sabres get Comrie back soon and he plays OK that will help the goals against. I want to see him with a healthy D and play another 10 games or so before judging him.

I hope Tage sets the tone. This is what has helped teams like the Bruins and Penguins stay near the top for so long. Dahlin will probably get more than Tage but Cozens will get close to $7M. These negotiations will test how much they believe in each other and the organization.

Quinn is good in multiple aspects of the game, I am still waiting for him to unleash some shots that are VO like. He’s got that in him. I think Mitts should sit a game or two because Krebs has taken a step and Asplund plays well with VO. Jost is a good fit with them or the vets.
