It’s amazing we could’ve had Jake Allen for a 3rd and a 7th. Instead, we sat on our hands. Could’ve used him this past season.
-
Then why do you act like there was some kind of subterfuge with the reporter? She asked him whether he would like to play for the Bruins some day. A legitimate question for any home town reporter. No reporter tricks there. He didn’t just say, “yes, that’s every kids dream”. He said maybe “now”. This is fine, and an important part of the interview you seemed to have omitted. Instead, you’re main take was that he was “led”.

You’re leaving out a very specific piece of information. This is the quote ““Every kid grows up dreaming of playing for their hometown team. Whether that happens now, later in my career. Who knows if it ever happens….” I really don’t care about the playing for the hometown team bit. It’s every kid’s dream. But he’s under contract for the next 5 years on a team not named the Bruins. So why did he say the bolded? Why would he want that “now” given he’s the Captain of the team that owes him $50M for the next 5 years?

I don’t doubt this happened (because Botterill), but I can find any evidence this happened. How did this play out? Was it multiple trades? https://www.capfriendly.com/trades/staff/jason-botterill

If we make the playoffs, this would mean that we improved by trading Eichel. So, moving on from Jack would be looked at in a positive light and KA will be known as the one who realized this and pulled the trigger. For better or worse, this will be his defining moment.
-
For better or for worse, Adams will be forever be known as the GM who traded Eichel. He better win (or at least break even) this trade or history won’t be kind on him. Even for Botterill, his defining moment was trading ROR. You can’t discuss Botterill without bringing up the ROR trade.

I’m starting the 5-year countdown today for when he loses his love for the game.

I’m less than concerned about Columbus. If I’m going to trade in the Eastern Conference, it’ll be to the CBJ. I agree, let’s see what they can get for Jones that they would be willing to flip to us. Would be nice to have 3 possible top 10 picks.

Five things I need to see to validate the Sabres being fully in on analytics
kas23 replied to inkman's topic in The Aud Club
Nope. No team should be full on analytics and I don’t think there are any teams out there that are. They should be viewed as a tool to help guide decisions, not make decisions. For example, Risto. I mostly agree, but who is on the roster that will step in and eat all his minutes? -
I’m completely fine with this. But, in order for this to happen, contracts cannot be guaranteed. They may not matter to players, but they sure as heck matter to teams, who are the ones getting stuck paying them. If owners took the attitude that contracts don’t matter and aren’t guaranteed, then I’m sure the players would immediately start thinking they indeed do matter.

Why would we trade a 24 year-old for a 26 year-old when KA has made it all too clear we are going with youth?

Depends how old they are. Seth Jones wouldn’t fit into our plans given his age. Should be acquired and flipped.

David Pagnotta: Sabres Exploring Trading Okposo to Seattle
kas23 replied to WildCard's topic in The Aud Club
Got. Still an incredibly steep price to pay in order to avoid having the Kraken select of the best worst player on the NHL’s last place team. Would be a good idea if we were gonna keep the band together and wanted cap space to add another player. But, there’s currently 3 players we may not need to protect. What if we don’t even have enough roster players to protect? -
David Pagnotta: Sabres Exploring Trading Okposo to Seattle

If the Sabres are going to dictate which player they take, then I don’t see the point in even moving up. It’s not like they are leapfrogging a team. -
Official Sam Ventura Hired as VP of Hockey Strategy and Research

Interesting you should bring the Bills into the conversation. Unlike the NHL, the term “analytics” isn’t as buzzworthy in NFL. In fact, I didn’t even realize it was thing for the Bills. Here it what I found: https://billswire.usatoday.com/2021/05/17/buffalo-bills-investing-analytics-sean-mcdermott/ There’s a good Tweet in their. The Jags lead the way, which makes me think NFL go the route of analytics when success on the field isn’t going so well. And I partially agree. Analytics usually take a backseat when you are poor at drafting or don’t have enough talent on the team. When you do, analytics seem to be more of a marketing term. -
I’ll go a step further down the gutter. I’d take Zegras straight up for Jack. Plus, maybe even a conditional 2022 first based on performance or games played.
-
Here’s the thing. He has proven that he can be a very good 2C at worst (on an otherwise very bad team). Would someone be willing to trade a top 10 for a very good, young 2C? Depends. Obviously, whether it is 1-5 or pick 6-10. Would we have traded 8OA in 2017 (Casey) for a 25 year-old very good 2C? I would have to say absolutely. Plus, if the reports are to be believed, it sounds like GM around the league don’t have much faith in any one player outside the top 3-5 players. The other wrinkle, and this might be holding up any potential trade, is whether Sam is willing to sign a longer term deal with the new team. If the “rental” label is removed, he fetches a higher return and certainly a top 5-10 pick in a “weak” draft.
-
I’m beginning to wonder if Reino isn’t going to be moved after all. He’s a really simple piece to trade. No injury. No bad reputation. Great player. And KA is probably just asking for a top-10 pick. Maybe he wants to stay and they are negotiating a deal?

Official Sam Ventura Hired as VP of Hockey Strategy and Research

The best pick ups would be 1-2 young guys straight out of grad school. They’ll be quick on the take and hungry. -
It really does sound like it’s been the Rags in the background crying the whole time with all these media leaks. Take their card out of the Rolodex, Kevyn.
-
The way I interpret this (and I haven’t listened to the podcast), is that if the Sabres don’t lower their “unbelievable” asking price soon, then they’re out of the running. So, they’re losing patience with KA’s asking price, not the process. I say good riddance. Buh-bye and call their rival again.

Isn’t this a strange pickup right before a draft? May mean he had little to no input on the Pens draft board? -

I agree this doesn’t reflect well on Nightingale’s analytics resume. Maybe he just couldn’t get it done by himself in his past environment. The good news is we now have both.
