  1. I know a black man who was raised by a single mother in humble surroundings. Through proper parenting, taking his education seriously, and not running the streets with bad influences he was able to improve his life and become successful. Now he's President of the US.
  2. Would they rather the Pens never got Mario or Sidney? If not for those two, Pittsburgh wouldn't even have a team and new arena. They would have been relocated.
  3. Baloney. These were mostly teens and young adults who were twittering beforehand about taking advantage of the situation. The adults who have lived there the longest were the ones upset this happened and went out on the street to try to stop them. How ironic that after being at the best place for them to get the tools to improve themselves, high school, they went out and rioted. Now when grandma can't get her prescription because they burned the drug store down they'll yell about inequality.
  4. There was a sustained effort by all post WWII presidents to keep the pressure on the Soviets, whose economic model couldn't keep up with the West. It was just a matter of time. I give credit to Solidarity and Pope John Paul II for giving the people the courage to stand up and say they'd had enough. And Gorbechev was a pragmatic leader who knew it was time to change. He could have used the military to suppress the Warsaw Pact nations but he didn't.
  5. Put him on the 4th line with Deslauriers and Larsson or McCormick and that's a nice agitator line that can also work the PK. I'd rather have 40 games from Kaleta than 80 from Hodgson.
  6. @BNHarrington: I'm told the winning combination was 1-5-6-14. That was EDMONTON combo 174. The #Sabres closest was No. 172 (1-5-6-12), one number off
  7. FYI the lottery changes next year so the top 3 picks are up for grabs, which means the team with the worst record could drop to the 4th pick.
  8. Because he's not going to a US eastern market which start most of their games at 7-8pm, and would help draw more viewers, as well as playing against Eichel and Crosby more times. He will only play in his hometown area of Toronto once a year.
  9. Murray's honesty is part of his appeal.
  10. Murray just said we're drafting a center this year.
  11. I don't want Murray to go after McDavid. It would be bad if it didn't get done and became public. How would Eichel feel? This way Eichel can play with a chip on his shoulder trying to prove he's better.
  12. Oilers will probably try to trade a forward for D. There should be a rule that you can't have the 1st pick more than once every 5 years.
  13. F'n Oilers! They're so stupid they tank without trying.
  14. Winning is gravy, but please no shart with Leafs, Bruins, or Flyers winning.
  15. That woman on Hockey Central is smokin' hot in that tight dress. Made me forget the lottery for a minute.
  16. @ByKevinAllen: Senators' Mark Stone broke his wrist on P.K. Subban's slash http://t.co/YV5I36Ud1pvia @usatoday @Real_ESPNLeBrun: Chris Neil skating on fourth line in practice. Might see him I guess in Game 2 Subban better keep his head up. Will he face the challenge or hide behind his teammates as usual.
  17. Subban has always been a punk who gets away with taking cheap shots and then running away when challenged. If one of the games gets one sided, an Ottawa player should chop Subban and if they're consistent the refs should give him the same penalty.
  18. Calgary takes 2-1 lead with 30 seconds left in 3rd. Sam Bennett with assist.
  19. Who's the big lady who sings the anthem in Montreal? They bring her out for big games. Is she their version of Kate Smith?
  20. If they're determined by the democratic process to be the best candidates from the group of people willing to run, then democracy is fine. It's not their fault if others don't run against them. And they aren't carbon copies; Jeb is smarter than W and more moderate than his father, and Hillary is more conservative than Bill. To be fair, how about the congressional "dynasties" such as Ron and Rand Paul. In fact, about 10% of all Congressmen have a relative who also served in Congress. Just as children often follow their parents in the same profession such as doctor or mechanic, so it is with government.
  21. Now this is an example of a swipe: 'After his a 15-minute exit interview with Berube at the team's practice facility in Voorhees, Lecavalier basically said the two could not coexist if the coach returns. "It's fair to say," said Lecavalier when asked if his best chance to be successful was to stay here if Berube is fired or move elsewhere if the coach returns.' 22. Ted was only hired by one GM; Jonh Muckler. The Isles owner hired him, and then Pat hired him in Buffalo. For whatever reason Ted doesn't see eye-to-eye with the GMs he's worked for, which is fine but costs him jobs. He was given an extension which he signed to get Buffalo through the tank, and he either disagreed with or didn't understand the team plan. But in the end he has a nice compensation package that would last most of us the rest of our lives, and he'll have time to work on the business venture he's starting with his sons.
  23. Good guy in a tough situation. He's the type of coach you'd want your son to have. But GMTM was brought in to do a job, and that includes having a coach he's confident can improve a young team.
