  1. I just threw up a little in my mouth. Two of the teams I dislike the most.
  2. That was a classic Me Softie goal. Always had trouble with long shots through partial screen.
  3. Presidents can't allow emotions to dictate their decisions. They're hired to make the tough choices for the long term greater good.
  4. It was an episode of 24/7 covering the Flyers. Laviolette is being considered for the Nashville job.
  5. I respectfully disagree with the reading of history that some of you have.
  6. I'm rooting for the players on the Blues simply so they advance to the conference finals so the Sabres get their 1st pick. I'm not sure Miller will resign there. Could Vancouver be in play now for a goalie? I wish the Sabres could have kept Vanek, the only reliable goal scorer, especially on the power play. I wanted to see how he'd do with a top line center, which hopefully they'll get in the draft.
  7. Sometimes people from other countries have the mistaken belief that the US president can act independently like a dictator. While a president can order a short term military engagement when American national interests are in imminent danger, an extended involvement requires the support of the American people and by extension their representatives in Congess, who control the purse string to pay for such involvement, not to mention the War Powers Act. Then when you include NATO, which would be needed for any such European operation, you have to get agreement with those citizens and governments. Human rights violations alone are not normally thought of as vital American interests that call for US military intervention. Otherwise we'd be constantly fighting with half the countries in the world. To get all the aforementioned inerested parties to agree to take the military action required to enforce and sustain peace in such a human rights situation takes time. So to blame any president for acting too slow in such a situation is a misunderstanding of how the office of president works within the law and the need for public agreement.
  8. The Balkins? Clinton got the Europeans to agree to NATO intervention to stop the Serbs. And no American president chooses to get involved militarily in Africa, it's a no win situation and there is never much public support for it.
  9. There's a feeling that refs are intimidated in Montreal. Here's another example.
  10. Looks like the NHL wants to make sure a Canadian team stays in the playoffs. Have to keep those ratings in Canada up.
  11. Of course the NRA is an extension of gun manufacturers who support it to ensure a steady market, while the ACLU fights for everyone from Nazis and the KKK to atheiests and Edward Snowden.
  12. I think the issue is more urban vs rural. People that live in heavily populated areas like cities, don't want to be worrying about all the people crammed into a small physical area having weapons. Rural areas where your neighbor may be up to a mile away, and grew up in a culture of hunting, are going to have a different view. There should be room for compromise among reasonable people, but the NRA installs fear in gun owners that all their guns will be taken away if there's any compromise.
  13. They didn't have to fine Quinnville so much, and Lucic should get a 1 game suspension. But as we saw in the last game vs Buffalo, the Bruins get protected.
  14. So the NHL thinks grabbing your own balls is five times worse than hitting an opponent in the balls.
  15. I went to a kids summer hockey camp in Canada and was given #5. Got awarded most improved in camp and wore it ever since. Then when my son started playing he got the same number and wore it ever since. And we both played D, so it was appropriate. If I was playing now and couldn't get 5, I'd get 98 so I would be the last player announced and my name would be at the end of the roster list.
  16. Went to game with $10 discount tix. Lots of giveaways. Mini poster with player pictures. Four goalies! The players who weren't playing were in lobby signing autographs. Some of them looked like high school kids. Justin Kea looks like a basketball player, thin but very tall. There were balloons dropped and they all had prize coupons inside. I got a hotdog, popcorn, and autographed puck. The guy next to me was visiting from New Jersey and got a $100 Tim Hortons gift card. He asked, what's Tim Hortons? Don't have many in NJ. Was impressed with Amerks work until they got big lead and let off the pedal in 3rd. There were a few times I was sure Syracuse was going to score, but Makarov somehow made a scrambling save.
  17. I believe in the 2nd Amendment right of Americans to freely own any weapon that was available at the time the amendment was passed. Any weapon invented after that time should be subject to regulation.
  18. Elmira was originally associated with Columbus, thus the blue and red colors. Perhaps Jackals was a takeoff of Jackets. And I have an Orlando Solar Bears jersey and it's pretty sweet.
  19. Since they clinched they'll probably play Knapp in the next game and Makarov in the last.
  20. No I don't think it would send a powerful message. We would not use the missiles to attack the Russians, they are defensive interceptors. And since the Baltic states, Poland, and the Czech Rep are already in NATO, an attack on any of them would trigger a military response by NATO, regardless of whether or not the missiles were in place. And as I said, a smaller deployment of missiles in Poland has already been agreed upon and is on the same timeframe as the original plan. Don't let McCain and Graham's political bluster fool you.
  21. 1st round is only 5 games. Higher seed gets to decide do they play first 2 on road and last 3 at home, or start first 2 at home but then play last 3 on road. My guess is first 2 will be in Rochester.
  22. They were offered jobs to work the night shift at Tim Horton's at Harborcenter.
  23. Now they'll have somewhere for Knapp and Makarov to play instead of Alaska and Fort Wayne.
  24. You do realize those missle interceptors were intended to defend Europe from Iranian missiles, and have nothing to do with Russian aggression. Currently pushed by our military industrial complex and their lackeys in Congress to make some money. Plus a smaller version of the plan was agreed upon by the US and Poland last year. It would do nothing to make Russia change their actions.
