  1. Tom Ward is right up there with Tom Riddle.
  2. Why not? Im with We've, he better send lawyers guns and money instead of WC. I like the hire. I think Shattucks has been the breeding ground for great players for a long time and he will be able to relate to the talent we are bringing in. They are innovative as well.
  3. Ah...what no MacKinnon and Parise?
  4. What's his secret deal going to be? 1 year and then head of instruction at Harborcenter?
  5. If I was his agent I would be advising that. If I was Lindholms agent I would be waiting on Rasmus. Or the Barrie arb award. It will set ceiling and floor.
  6. If you googlenRoger Birkman it pops up.
  7. I am more in the TM camp. If a player catches my eye, I look at the numbers and when they don't jive I look further at the player. Or if a players numbers are outliers what is it about the player that is creating the anomaly. I also did work with the Birkman group in Houston and their methodology I think you would find it interesting. The premise is people are wired differently with regard to environmental factors and how they perceive themselves in regards to larger groups and within sub groups. The Hawks use it. A lot of PGA players use it to put together their performance teams. It might add contextnto some of your numbers. ;)
  8. #brownricematters
  9. I am aware of fae, it is used in my work. I am advocating just the opposite that one must discern the value of the numbers based on those types of situations. And differentiation between two statistical equals needs an arbiter. That is the limitation. As models.improve and incorporate more data I think this is less.of a concern. But there is always the Mike Williams and Aaron Maybins out there.
  10. No doubt, but as the pool of similarly situated in the lower rounds expands, the numbers might not be a true indicator. I think often a physical stat metric, ie height weight etc, when an eye test might say the smaller guy is better. Or the context, team, situation depressed the production numbers.
  11. Rakish, I agree to a point, but analytics without context is also a fools errand. You can end up with statistical beasts who don't produce on the ice. You also can't model those players for whom the big stage is where they ultimately blossom. Shaw is an example but there are others. I do think we will see more movement toward quantifying performance, but context is still valuable.
  12. If TM did that to Jack, he probably would have completed his sophomore season at BU and would be looking forward to Senior day. A top draft pick NHL ready player is woefully under compensated under the Rookie wage scale. Without the performance bonuses that is.
  13. He scored 20 goals last year in 3/4 of a season. He is a deterrent to other teams running our young guys. His other qualities that you cite have depressed his trade value, i.e. cap hit + behavior. To get rid of him now would be to sell at his lowest point. The value he brings to us, scoring grit and top line speed is more valuable than a 7th d or pick. Because that's what I think the market will bear for him. If he redeems himself, personally and through evolution of his game, his trade value may go up. But as it stands he is more valuable than the return he would bring. And welcome.
  14. Wow, great trick!
  15. The Charlie Daniels Band? Man TP is really branching out!
  16. That can't be true because two of my most credible sources said they saw him at First Niagara Amphitheater doing a sound check with John Mayer before the Dead show tonight. He was also seen playing hackey sack with Kessel and Rutherford.
  17. Stafford scored 24 as a Junior. Vesey scored 32.
  18. Same skill set though Larkin may be a tad faster. And at 23 he is physically more mature to weather the grind.
  19. Think Dylan Larkin.
  20. I would espouse that he return to Sweden, tune up for the WJC with Asplund. Go to Rochester after Christmas and be ready for a call up if we are poised to make the playoffs. If not he can help the Amerks try and win a Calder. Him coming up in February or March would be like a deadline move.
  21. I like the reply to his tweet about his dad seeing the future, the tweeter asked if his dad has a picture of him in that jersey with a Stanley Cup
  22. The article assumes a full year of McDavid. I don't think it is unreasonable to assume he would improve that team if he plays a full season. To 14? Maybe a stretch.
  23. I can't find a good clip of it but the empty net goal Jack scored against NJ showed me a lot about what matters to him. We needed the icer to avoid a season sweep. Not my favorite, the CBJ and Jets get my vote but that was up there.
  24. We could offer sheet him.
