  1. This is not logic and discussion. It's a feeling from experience. I've been married to a black woman for greater than 20 years. I can listen, but I still struggle to feel since I'm white. She told me once, "How would you feel going to a restaurant where you were the only white person? Uncomfortable, huh? Yeah, that's what I go through every single day." That's a restaurant, imagine if it were the police.
  2. The civil rights movement was in the 1960's. It's been 60 years! How long can people of color be patient with their family members being killed by police? I can't blame people to be angry. Nonviolent protests have gotten them virtually nowhere since the police keep killing people of color. So, what do they do to enact change? Send letters to their US representatives? Fat chance of anything happening doing that. When backed against a wall, everyone will fight.
  3. Actually, the Sabres saved me $500 this year. At the end of every other year, I would throw my shoe at the TV. Now that their season is done, I can keep my shoes on and save $500!
  4. Good post mjd. I think we're still in stage 2 of grief. The only change I would make is that I hope we never get to Acceptance in any situations like this. 1. Denial – The first stage of grief is Denial. 2. Anger – The second stage of grief is Anger. 3. Bargaining – The third stage of grief is Bargaining. 4. Depression – The fourth stage of grief is Depression. 5. Acceptance – The fifth stage of grief is Acceptance.
  5. "Nonviolence is fine as long as it works." -------- Malcolm X. He died in 1965. 55 years later, nonviolence has not worked. What's next? What will make this end? And how many more will die? I cannot condone violence, but if my child was murdered because of their skin color by police, I would understand the outrage.
  6. Some perspective from a guy who has personal experience. It's at least worth a listen.
  7. Having fired people before, that is F'n hilarious! But, I'm sure he was a dick and deserved to be sacked.
  8. I've never been impressed with either Terry or Kim's management/executive abilities. They made a ton of money running a smallish family business in an industry that peaked at the right time for them. I think they think because they're rich, it makes them smart, savvy business people. It doesn't work that way. Until they lose the ego, we're in for more "suffering."
  9. I saw Talas at the After Dark in Lockport waaaaay back when. He was doing things with his bass that were unreal. Truly a generational talent.
  10. Frankly, I'm going from pissed to ambivalent regarding the Sabres (which is much worse).
  11. If I got to 50 miles from the equator, I'd have to change my user name to Tondas Bacon!
  12. Talk about singing with power and passion (oh, and can play a little guitar as well), Terry Kath is the man.
  13. For a right-handed shot, that's a great left-handed compliment.
  14. I wear a long sleeved tee shirt and a golf hat. I still wear shorts (just to give the ladies a show). I really want to get one of those large hats but can't get the gumption to do so. So my ears and legs are exposed. But I don't go out much so I think I'm OK. But being a white guy from WNY, I can get a sunburn from reading a Kindle (or a laptop). That reminds me, I have to logoff now so I don't burn.
  15. I had high hopes for JBOT when he was hired, but he talks a good game but the results don't change. Now, I'm torn. He's got all the cap space to do what's needed this year, but if he F''s it up, we will be set back for ANOTHER 3-5 years. I think not getting a 2C and misusing D-Men assets this year was puzzling (kind word). But, I'm not in for another total redo. Hence, I'm torn. But, I did vote No to this management team.
  16. Forget the hair @Doohickie, that's the "executive stare" I've never learned in my life. I'm retired, but seeing that stare, I'm putting myself on a letter on reprimand.
  17. Wait until you retire. I retired in 2017 and my mileage was 56K. Today, it's at 59K.
  18. This might make an interesting thread or post to respond to. I will certainty give my age away with all the 70's rock on my list.
  19. Damn, after you guys eat, the ocean level drops by a foot.? Enjoy!
  20. New GM, Rick Dudley, now 81 comes in and beats the sh1t out of all the players and they become too scared to lose. First Stanley Cup!!!!
  21. Got pulled over for speeding once. I'm white and my wife is black. I was just annoyed, she was terrified. Ashamedly, I realized then the racial difference. It's difficult to understand (to feel) the fear of authority. I got a ticket and moved along. But the look of terror in my wife's eyes when we got pulled over still makes me cry. Intellectually, I can understand, but I'll never feel the fear. Racism (in all forms) needs to be eradicated.
  22. Forgot to add Fred Turner of BTO as an honorable mention (to the others posted above).
  23. Welcome NAF. I'm in! Is Middlestadt out?
  24. Well, like the last nine years of no Sabres, there's still m@sterbation. My right bicep is shredded.
