With any new regime the first thing you have to do in ANY business is to identify the right people and keep them on the bus and identify the wrong people and get them off the bus as soon as possible. Eichel is in no way Captain material. He doesn't hold people accountable, he doesn't lead, the team looks at him playing like he doesn't give a f**k and they are like, "Well, this is the highest paid payer and captain of the team, so this apparently is acceptable here" and they do the same thing.

They made the playoffs in their first year when they cut a bunch of good players and everyone thought they were tanking and had Tyrod at QB. But yeah, the QB is ultra important in the NFL in a way that no one player is in the NHL. Goalie would probably be the closest I think since they can steal games, and even series, especially in the playoffs.

The players would have to care and hold each other accountable to do that kind of stuff....clearly they do neither. And it all starts with the Captain.

With how well the Bills are being run now with Beane and McDermott and how fast they have turned around, how is it they struggle so badly in doing the same thing with the Sabres?

This team sucks. And they have way too many good players and 1st round picks to be this bad.

The same way the Bills say "Come to Buffalo and become the best version of yourself", the Sabres need to tell pending FA's "Come to Buffalo and forget how to score goals and play hockey"

The PP is a huge bright spot. Might be the best I have ever seen. Makes the PK look silly and runs them ragged all over the ice for the entire PP at times with sublime puck movement. First unit, second unit, no Eichel, no Skinner...doesn't matter they just are an unstoppable machine.

What have they won playing the style of play that lets them open up and free wheel? Nothing. This team will have to learn to play defense first and then once they do RK will trust them to open it up more and not lose the defensive mindset. See the Islanders and Capitals for how to do it properly. Do you not find it strange that some of their best hockey has come with a bunch of regulars out of the lineup? To me it says the players getting a shot to play are listening and doing what RK wants and seeing the results while the more established players are not or maybe haven't been broken of their bad habits yet.

First unit...second unit....no Eichel...no Skinner...doesn't matter. Control the puck...sick puck movement...make the D scramble around for most of the penalty and score about 40% of the time. Sometimes it looks like a shooting gallery with shots coming from all over the place... I don't know if this pace is sustainable but holy crap they are really good at it.
