Isolating the Bills thread, yes...but in the context of a hockey forum, probably not. I confess, some of it is a defense mechanism since Rex was "my guy" to replace Marrone. On Byslma....yes! On to the Calgary thread!

It was more the general sentiment of "everything is so much worse under Rex" that I was trying to get at. Implicit in that sort of thinking is raising Marrone to an undeserved level. And yea, pretty sure he's still with the Jags.

But the stuff was all also a problem under Marrone. My beef last year was with the romanticization of Marrone's tenure and the treatment of a record with 1 less win as some catastrophic failure of coaching. Rex deserved some blame and unquestionably had his warts, but I believe the decline of the defense led people to lay way way more blame at his feet than was deserved. Rex boasted about his defenses, it fell flat, and now there's a seeming need to blame him for everything that goes (or went, as the case may be) wrong.

Fasching, as a rookie, is better at everything than Deslauriers save for fighting. Bylsma loves him low talent grinders like he was. Seconded. You don't find me grating? Time to try harder!

Nope. You might be inclined to think the Edmonton game was evidenced the sky wasn't falling after the season opener. But in reality, the sky fell and killed us all. The Edmonton game was the happy afterlife for us.

Where are all the "Rex sucks, just look at what the Jets are doing without him" posts this year? WHERE!?! I think there was a lot of mistaking correlation with causation last season. Technically, what Murray said was they didn't have any players with a NMC. That could be true and they could still have to protect Bogo because at the time of the interview Bogo's NMC had yet to kick in. Either way, unless we add another Dman, I expect him to opt to protect Bogo.

General Fanager wasn't too great when it started either, but it grew. Now that CapFriendly is the only game in town, I'd expect improvements.

My guess is the hire was primarily for the database technology the site was built on, and the roster/player tools. According to James Mirtle, he was hired to be their "Hockey Operations Analyst"...maybe the title is just weird, but that doesn't scream player analytics to me. I really preferred the visual layout on general fanager :(

The players you listed are far and away better hockey players than Deslauriers. Deslauriers is Pat Kaleta without the defensive acumen.
