Chris Butler has had a respectable career already. Considering he was a 4th rounder, he's been a decent depth option and a fairly complete player. The guy was never an embarrassment out there, except for the sandpaper, he's a fairly complete option for a hole in any roster.

It's a solid move, though its not one I'm drooling over. You can never have too many NHL defensemen, and the Sabres finally have depth. Franson won't be hard to spin come the spring.

The idea that marriage is a Love Match between to partners is a rather recent development in human history, really. Maybe 250-300 years ago. Only recently has marriage become a partnership between two equals. So if you are speaking of historical marriage, really the romance is the newcomer. It was a contract. Even in Jewish weddings they begin by reading the contract (Ketubah?), which is a little weird to sit through if you're not expecting it.

Contractors licence? The state has a great interest in seeing that rights of the married are protected. (could you imagine the chaos in civil courts of all those that die without wills). As for religious ceremonies, nothing forbids any religion from blessing the marriage between you and your goldfish. The state however has very good reasons not to recognize that as a legal or binding contract.
