  1. Azor Ahai didn't murder his family. His wife Nissa Nissa offered herself as a willing sacrifice. And that was to forge Lightbringer, the ultimate weapon against the WW, not to help him defeat Ramsay Bolton. And Stannis wants to be king, but a large part of that is because he feels it's his duty. The show has a definite tone of "Stannis has throne greed."
  2. THIS POST HAS SPOILERS FOR THE EPISODE THAT AIRED ON 6/7 Jorah's "redemption arc" was kind of ruined after he saved Dany... When he touched her. So your love for her is more important than possibly infecting her with a deadly affliction? Nice one, J-bear. As far as the Jon stuff goes, it's his duty as the LC of the NW to let his men know about the war against the White Walkers. It's the only thing that matters. If his men are too busy nursing their old hatred of the wildlings, how do they have any hope in hell of fighting off the long night? The notion of "why bother to inform a group whose minds are made up?" makes sense when the group aren't men under your command. Especially when you consider (ADWD spoiler) (seriously spoiler) (show watchers don't read this) Everything that bothered me about the Stannis situation: -Ramsay and his 20 good men were said to be the ones who burned all of Stannis's supplies and siege engines. This get's chalked up to their "knowledge of the land." Does their knowledge of the land allow them to march through a blizzard super easily? How did they know where all the vital goods were in Stannis's camp? Why did all of the tents just start randomly catching flame? Did Ramsay leave timed incendiary explosive devices there? It makes more sense if it's Dr. Melly Dre who burned it all and blamed Ramsay, but not much more sense. -Melisandre brings up the leeches/kings blood when she's trying to convince Stannis to burn Shireen. Why didn't Stannis point out that the leeches only worked 2/3 times? Sure, Joff and Robb died shortly after but Balon Greyjoy (Theon's dad) is still alive. It's not that impressive that she was able to predict 2/3 kings dying when Stannis already knows that she sees the future in her flames sometimes, and is wrong just as often as she is right. (This goes back to how terribly written Stannis was in seasons 2/3, when he was super subservient to Melly and did everything that he did at her behest. Sure, in the books she has incredible influence with Stannis, but it's a delicate balance she has to strike. She needed to prove to him that she had power to get him to listen to her, and even then he still did some things his own way.) Melisandre also doesn't tell Stannis what burning Shireen will gain him, outside of a vague promise. - After this one setback Stannis is ready to burn Shireen pretty much right away. This is a man with an iron will who held Storm's End for 2 years while eating rats and shoe leather. In the books, Stannis refuses to burn his prisoners while on the march to Winterfell. He eventually lets up and throws the queen's men a bone by letting them burn men that were caught cannibalizing some already dead soldiers. Also, Justin Massey asks Stannis what to do if he dies while he's gone (Stannis is sending him across the Narrow Sea to hire sellswords). In response, Stannis says something like "Keep the fight going. Do all you can to avenge me and seat my daughter on the iron throne, or die in the attempt." -Stannis burns his daughter in front of his soldiers. Why would the greatest military mind in Westeros do this? Your men have to have faith in their commander, to hold their own and be ready to die for you at a moments notice. Showing them that you care so little for your daughter that you would burn her is only going to sew discord in the ranks. Nobody wants to die for a man that does that. -Selyse and Stannis had character reversal syndrome during the burning. you show, making Selyse Florent look like a better person than the Mannis. To be fair, Stannis killed Renly because he viewed him as a traitor to his cause. Renly naming himself king when Stannis is his elder and the rightful heir was really messed up. That doesn't excuse what Stannis did, but it was wayyyyyyyyyy different from the whole Shireen situation. I agree with you that I care not a fig about show Stannis now. He can die under the Dreadfort for all I care.
  3. I've been in a couple canoes before and they capsized for like, no reason.
  4. Wouldn't the canoe just capsize?
  5. He was the voice of the Meereenese people, and they implied heavily that he was the Harpy until, yeah.
  6. She's also barely in the books. In the show they characterized her so that they could do that. That was the endgame for her character. And why was Hizdahr (Lenny Kravtiz looking guy next to Dany) even in the show? Did he do... anything?
  7. After this week I'm back to forecasting a Dexter-esque decline in show quality for the last few seasons. And why didn't Jon snow mention to anybody in the Night's Watch what happened at Hardhome, and why the Wildlings need to be here?
  8. Awesome song, drnk. I love his voice.
  9. What a terrible episode. Daznak's pit scene was terribly mishandled. I didn't know why anything was happening, nor why it was important at all. Tonight's episode spoiler This show is great one week, and sucks the next. Except this season it's been mostly suck.
  10. I love you Dudacek.
  11. That's absolutely hilarious. The show really is much better when the best part is on display: The casting/acting and the writing isn't there to get in the way of my brain's enjoyment. Seeing Varys do the bl0w-j0b face at 1:44 (which is in reference to Little Finger and Lysa Tully) without verbal context is effing hilarious. Edit: Certain acts of oral sex are apparently not message board material. To be fair, the board wasn't really created with threads of this subject matter in mind.
  12. Me neither. Pat really cleaned up his game over the past few years. Unfortunately, his reputation still weighs him down.
  13. weave is mad all the time when he posts. Every post.
  14. I heard this song for the first time in years on Veteran's day and I cried my eyes out. I really miss being in a Wind Ensemble. I pretty regularly shed tears from behind the timpani because of how gorgeous the music was.
  15. I'm worried that his body is breaking down. I think he should hang them up before he does serious long term damage to himself. An extra 1-2 years of hockey isn't worth sacrificing quality of life. If he is signed, I'd be fine with him playing ~30-40 games for us. Basically our offensive Weber.
  16. Amerks? No. The prospects? Are you kidding me? What else has there been to follow these past 3 years?
  17. Good post. This is what I think every time somebody calls Irbe the goalie whisperer. Irbe is still a good goaltending coach, but no coach can have that profound an effect on players. Talent is what makes a goalie good. That, and the crazy.
  18. Hanzal scored over 11 goals just twice in his 8 year NHL career. 15 in '13-'14 and 16 in '10-'11 (Remaining 6: three 11 goal seasons and three 8 goal seasons). He's not played over 65 games in a season since 2009-2010, when he played 81 games. Some of the lack of scoring comes from the fact that he missed so much time, most of it is lack of goal scoring ability. I really like Hanzal, too. There's just no way I'd ever give up anything of great value for him. Especially not at this point. Charity bet?
  19. I wasn't assuming you were saying it about me. And you were the one assuming that I was talking to you in a negative tone up-thread. Hehe
  20. Hanifin/Domi/Hanzal for Ristolainen/Eichel is a trade I would never ever ever make. I'm not sold on Hanifin and think that you'd be lucky if he turns out as good as Risto, and Risto already has 2 years of development under his belt. Domi is a good prospect and Hanzal is a quality 3rd line center who misses time often. Eichel is a franchise cornerstone, and trading him away makes us worse now and in the future. Why trade away the best center in the franchise when we're finally going to have the problem at center ice solved?
  21. I'm not really sure as to why you're grouping me with K-9 here. I just agreed with him that you're a contrarian, that's all. Take it easy with accusing others of not critically thinking. It's a message board, and a lot of the time folks are going to give stuff a quick once over. Especially at 1 in the morning.
  22. Easy, Hoss (way to ruin that saying, Dstebb). I didn't remember that you said Risto really grew and I remembered that you had doubts about him after he was drafted (and I value your input, so I asked again :) ). And somebody who often speaks in riddles saying "read what I actually say" is a bit silly. I just don't understand what you're getting at whatsoever in this thread with your doubts about TM. But you're one to read the tea leaves, and I rarely listen to sports interviews, so it's much more your domain than mine. He said Risto for Hanzal/Domi. EDIT: Ahh, I see he might've meant Eichel/Risto for Hanifin/Hanzal/Domi
  23. I love how they with the kid at every turn of his life because he's too willing to immerse himself into another's will. "What are you going to do, surround him with enemies all the time?" "If I have to." Then you see how much Ender learns from being in Bonzo Madrid's army at first, internally thinking of ways to pick apart his commander's stupid strategies.
  24. Is there any doubt about it whatsoever? I don't get why Ghost doesn't like people that are contrarian to him. Shouldn't he understand where they're coming from? And ghost, what are your hockey reasons to doubt Risto? I remember asking you this question before last season, but after this year you still have doubts?
