  1. Leafs will beat them if they play each-other...talk about a big game for the Leafs today...if they get a point or two against Columbus who has forgot how to win (5 loses in a row) the leafs play Ottawa...if they lose they play Washington. I do think the Leafs will beat ottawa no problem but not so sure against OV
  2. sad thing is (and was) we actually had a better lineup at that point but he leafs offered a massive amount of cash and we lost Babs even though he had a agreement in place to come here...I keep saying if we had him we'd have at least 10 more wins and the leafs would be out of the picture...he gets so much out of players just like in detroit (who are terrible now without him)
  3. have to remember that goalies usually take much longer before hey are NHL ready...some don;t even start their career til their 30's...Lerner is still young by goalie standards but any goalie we can add to the system is all good
  4. whatever happened to Smith we signed ..he looked good the one game he played
  5. Hate to put so much pressure on a young guy, but Guhle's number's sure are good and I truly think he may really help the defense next season... Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) - Many were hoping that Brendan Guhle would join the Sabres for their final two games, but Tim Murray decided it would be better for his development if he joined the Amerks for the second straight year. When Guhle’s season ended last year, the 19-year-old played six games with Rochester netting a goal and three assists. He showed he could play in the NHL during his emergency recall this season which lasted for three games. During his junior season the speedy defenseman was traded to Prince George and had a great season. He had 13 goals and 16 assists for 29 points in 32 games with the Cougars. He added six assists in Prince George’s upset six-game playoff loss to Portland. If you add in his Prince Albert numbers, Guhle played 47 games scoring 15 goals and 18 assists for 33 points. It’s expected that Guhle’s junior career is over and that he’ll make a huge push to make the Sabres next September.
  6. Florida is a interesting team...can't get a read on them...at times seem quite good and at other times, quite bad which of course could sum up the Sabres too
  7. 6 of one and a half dozen of the other...whatever, either is okay but we have a load of young talent that can easily play on the 4th line and maybe even ahead of these guys. neither will fetch much in a trade either... obviously any trade to get a defenseman is all that maters about now
  8. I do think the team needs to try and make a splash and acquire a top d-man through a trade and while I know everyone is talking of trading Kane, I think I may be inclined to trade Sam if there is a market for him (not too sure if there is one to be honest). Kane is a great power-forward and I love his scoring touch...Sam meanwhile seems slow and weak and just not sold on him. Maybe I am wrong but...
  9. Dallas, like Vancouver is a complete train wreck and sadly do not seem to have much in the way of prospects...and Lindy sure ain;t the right man for the job there though not too sure who is. anyways, it is sad to say the leafs are definately on the fast track to success...their management hasnt done much in the way of trades and have drafted pretty-much who you'd expect...clearly Babs has this team playing over their heads as he did foe many year sin detroit...Kadri is lights of all of a sudden! If we'd have gotten babs we'd have I figure at least 10 more wins and the Leafs would have at least ten less wins...major difference clearly is Babs and his way of getting he best of out whoever he has while we continue to try to make players something they aren't (Like Lindy did with Vanek)
  10. BREAKING NEWS...Blysma's "system" worked to a tee last night...get a goal or two lead then hang on for dear life...and the Sabres actually hung on and won 2-1...Blysma's wet dream come true
  11. I think the point is unfortunately times have changed and there is a complete total lack of respect for other people or things...sad really. sorry to hear youo fell victim to these low-lifes
  12. do you not think Lindy's style or system is exactly like Blysma's? outdated defensive thing that has their team try to get a early lead then hang on for dear life, which of course we know just doesn;t work in he NHL now...did at one time, where you could get a goal or two and trap the rest of the night but the league is far too open and offense is the name of the game now so even a 3 or 4 goal lead is not safe anymore
  13. quite often it has been proven that the best defense is often a good offense...playing Dan's system of hanging on for dear life and sitting back and allowing the opponent to come at you at will and hope your defensemen can save you (or your goalie) will only lead to exactly what we see...puck possession has to improve
  14. I am just not convinced we can get a top 2 d-man with our pick and a player named kane and I am not so sure we really should give up a key part of our offense...I know everybody says like give our 1at and like Ennis or Moulson or something like that but the truth is there are like 20 teams after these few available (if they are) top defensemen so it will not be easy getting any of them...I know we get restless about this rebuild but it isn't easy and doesn't happen overnight unless you get lucky and everything clicks and you steal away a coach named Babcock that was suppose to go to your rivals...
  15. When all is said and done, I think maybe this guy, Callan Foote (Adam's son) may be our best bet...sounds just what we need back on D... "An assertive two-way defenceman that reads plays quickly and understands both the offensive and defensive sides of the roles he is put into. He plays a consistent game, and can be trusted to create chances from the back end on special teams. He uses his size to gain leverage against other players, though he isn't an overly physical force. His hockey sense is outstanding, and his ability to not just read but start and, on the odd occasion, finish plays is overtly indicative of his high talent level. (Curtis Joe, EP 2017)"
  16. as if this team needs any further bad news...are we jinxed or what. I thought the signing of this guy was a great move but of course like everything else it blows up in our faces. The dreaded Sabre-jinx is alive and well...
  17. it is rather absurd to blame the Pegulas for any perceived failures on the ice (or field)...like they haven't tried to bring a winner to Buffalo? Please...they have spent money like crazy and it was and is not their fault that maybe the number one biggest factor in the Sabres' season and future was that the leafs threw babs a ton of cash and he broke a gentleman's agreement he made with the Sabres and shuffled off to TO...if we had Babs and TO had Blysma trust me we'd be at least 10 wins better and the leafs at least 10 wins less, meaning we'd be all giddy and the leafs would be still lamenting about how bad things are. babs made detroit a winner for many years often with very little in the way of talent but he has a way to get the most out of each player. There are many leafs playing over their heads and babs knows how to use each player so well. the Sabres have a bunch of under-acheving players and therein lies the biggest difference. Blysma uses the wrong players to do the wrong things and it shows. we must remember that there are a ton of teams trying to get better and move up the standings and if it were that easy everyone would be contending for the cup. It is not easy and many teams continue to struggle as much if not more then the sabres.Unlike Vancouver and Dallas for two examples at least we have good young players to feel good about...they have huge money spent on aging vets and are getting nowhere fast.Things are not nearly as bad as we tend to let on on this board
  18. First off, I do think Buffalo is lucky to have owners that are staying put and not shuffling off to vegas or wherever...I know TO wants the Bills obviously. I also think terry tried to get the best available hockey minds and had a gentlemen's agreement with Babs that Babcock broke and instead took TO's buckets of cash. If we had got babs we would be far better and the leafs not nearly as good for sure...if Blysma was coaching the Leafs they'd be a mess with all youngsters not listening to him as we see here. either way, the Pegula's truly care and are trying their best...
  19. It's not Murray's fault that Babs took TO's absurd amounts of cash and headed north instead of with us...this team would be a whole lot better, and the leafs a whole lot worse if Babs was behind our bench and they had Blysma (or whoever)...
  20. I admit I have been a Lerner defender but...that whole sequence reminded me of Ryan Miller days...we score, tie it 2-2, start to clearly take control of game, then Rodrigues is going down and clearly gets tripped and of course no call from the lousy refs, then Islanders go down, take a stupid little shot from like the blue line and Lerner just lets it in...Miller use to let soft goals in at the worse time and Lerner has taken over where he left off...these soft goals are momentum killers and totally derail the team everytime. Boy that was hard on the eyes...
  21. I am in no way saying I like Thorton or anything but he is right and he always shows up and answers the bell even when he is against bigger guys. He is all heart which in itself is a wonderful thing. what we are seeing now is bush-league stuff like these nasty slashes players are constantly using (see Cindy's nice slash on Methot) and other cheap crap that would have caused a brawl a few years ago now goes unchallenged nor penalized. When there is nothing to stop the player from doing this crap, they will go ahead and do it as we are seeing. there are no enforcers anymore so we see more and more players pushing the limits and doing stuff we'd never have seen a few years back
  22. I agree and disagree with this...agree that the leafs are getting excellent results from all over their lineup, but that is a reflection of coaching...I live north of Toronto and all I hear is Leaf fans talk and complain for years how bad Kadri JVR and other Leafs were...now all of a sudden with babs coaching they are heros and everyone loves them...I can just imagine how much babs would be getting out of guys like Foligno if he were here. The leafs (like the Oilers) play an attack-style exciting style of hockey that is suited for today's wide-open NHL. Meanwhile, Blysma is stressing a plodding, defense-first, score a goal or two then hang-on-for-dear-life style game that has a best before date of like 1984...
  23. it is all Babs...if we had got him like we should have things would be day and night with both them and us...
  24. I do think from what we have seen his year this team has serious potential when all is good and can play with any team on any given night...I also have no doubt Babs would have this team a serious playoff contender and not where it sits today. I think of all the questions I asked at the start not getting Babs was by far the biggest failure...wasn;t Pegula's fault though as they threw lots of money at him...still surprised he (Babcock) would go against a handshake gentleman's agreement and scoot off to TO...
  25. the question then begs to be answered...do we trade Sam in a package for maybe a D?
