to be fair when we got rid of Byron among others because they were too small the NHL was totally different then. you had to be big, the bigger the better. We all were fed up with the sabres being called "smurfs" and were all looking to move out the little guys for bigger stronger players.Now the NHL is mroe aimed at speed and possession so this guy seems to fit the bill.

to be fair that darn John Tavares made both Moulson and Okposo look so darn good, just as he is doing with Lee now. At the time most everybody including the "experts" on TSN and Sportsnet applauded these signings and made it sound like Buffalo were getting possibly the best free agents in the years they signed with us...

This makes one wonder what Kane will actually get this summer...maybe he will be lucky to get signed anywhere

I find it strange that nash and even hartman got much better returns...at least EXGMTM got 1si rounders for Vanek and Miller that were this year's...last thing we need is a 1st rounder next year. we have to wait like forever to see if the guy is any good at all we pick? very disappointing. I guess we should be enthused about the 4th round pick? Really? the whole trade now to Winnipeg is very one-sided with the jets having got a haul we got have...a guy in the AHL, some picks that will not amount to anything and...

Am I looking at the wrong standings? I see the Amerks at 26 wins, 13 losses and 8 OTL for 66 point sin 55 games and seemingly playing very good. I think we can also look at the fact that the Sabres lead the league in one-goal losses. I so however get pissed with how they seemingly don't show up for one oro two perio9ds like against LA Saturday...then turn it on when it's too late

Vegas makes no sense as they are apparently trying to move Neal who is also a offensive-force and pending UFA just like Kane ( a little older but every bit as good). as for these teams like San Jose, Calgary, or even Pittsburg, they are higher up in the standings thus their 1st rounder is like picking late in the 1st round which really de-values the pick. Of course none of the lower teams will take kane so I just hope wherever he goes we get a prospect and or young player along with any pick.

too bad...kinda rooting for him and his AVS who are playing so darn good. I am actually hoping we kinda get miles better after trading Kane the way the Avs have got better after the Duchene trade

No hope in heck the NHL allows us to get Dahlin...they'll push us down to 3 or 4 for sure which will still be good but this team desperately needs Dahlin

they always said whoever gets th ebest player wins the trade...thus Sabres getting Jack and kane win easily...unfortunately we do not get to keep Kane so we have to see the return. this is by far GMJBotto's most important move. he absolutely must get good and fair quality in return for Kane. Any othe rtrade is completely secondary to the forthcoming kane deal

in case no one noticed Victor Olofsson scored again to take the goal scoring lead in the SHL with 21 goals. The SHL is the highest ranked league in Sweden. Olofsson, Taken in the 7th round (181st overall) this guy has great talent and just may be a huge sleeper. Olofsson is a winger with natural goal-scoring instincts. Knows how to find open ice and has a good, hard shot. Skates extremely well and is a decent playmaker, too. His lack of size can be a problem in physical contests. May be one of exGMTM's better draftees...

Housley is trying to get this team to play like Nashville who obviously is light years ahead in talent. Disco Dan coached this team to it's strengths which isn't much but he didn;t ask for something they were or are not capable of. and yes, Disco did it without jack for half the year and many other major injuries

instead of getting mad at other players the players kinda need to get mad at themselves for actually getting paid for this crap they call hockey

at first I was okay or actually good with the signing but I kinda thought he'd be much more of a "leader" then he has been. I figured he'd be named Captain right away and lead the team to bigger and better things. Apparently he is no leader as this team seems to lack leadership in a BIG way so now I am kinda thinking maybe he is over paid but I doubt you could trade him so either way he still is a good, solid player and yes, clearly fairly paid compared to many other players in his price-range

as much as we all hate Bettman and his big ego I have to give him credit on this one...he convinced owners to give up real actually and good players off their rosters to Vegas with the payoff being pretty obvious...now bettman can ask for close to if not a billion dollars for the next franchise. he can point to vegas as proof that any new franchise is worth whatever he deems it to be. vegas is for real because they have a good mix of players. Their management picked well and deserve huge kudos

I just realized something very important...Casey (as in Middlestat) wears number 11! Seems to me someone else wore that number for the Sabres and it seems to me it is retired. Just wondering what your thoughts are of what number Casey will wear when he joins the big team?

in case you didn't notice the Sabres' defence are starting to score (both goals and assist) more and more and hey are starting to look good and giving a very valuable piece like kane for a guy that is getting up here in age and is always hurt would be absolutely absurd. heck we'd have to start fire the GM posts if he actually was so naive or stupid to make that trade. not even worth talking about...

if anyone actually believes or thinks that bettman and his all-world ego would ever allow Buffalo off the hook for that time up on stage on national TV when Lindy et al would not even shake his hand, you haven't seen or heard bettman and is rants about how he is basically Mr. Wonderful and how is the key to any success the league enjoys. I actually tuned in to a radio station up here in Ontario one day a few years back and they were talking about how "it is obvious that the NHL is sticking it to the Sabres for that whole thing that went on years ago". Do you really think that any team other then the Sabres would get screwed out of the 1st pick two years in a row? Whatever...crap like last night will continue and there is absolutely nothing anyone can do about it. sucks, but that's the facts. I am not too sure if the Bills are getting shafted too, just think that Brady gets any and every call is way no matter who he is playing

well Ottawa's a mess, playing far worse then the Sabres, while the Amerks lost a game. They are playing better then the big club. The NHL (and Bettman although I hate to give him anything good) sure were smart in changing the expansion rules that allowed the vegas team to be very good very fast. What this does is immediately raise the expansion fee for the next team by a ton of good old cash... Off topic, I was watching the Queen give her wonderful Xmas speach and was thinking what a wonderful lady she is and how sad it'll be when she passes...which brought me to my next question...who takes over from her? Surely not that thing Charles is with?

certainly both McDavid and Mathews are generational players. jack, well we'll see how that plays out and Dahlen looks great but there ain't no hope he'll ever be a Sabre. Couldn;t help but laugh when someone said that he (Dahlen) will be great coming into the zone with McDavid! Probably better chance of that then the Sabres ever getting him...

still can't help but think or feel that while we all went into this season optimistic and thinking we'd for sure at least compete for a layoff spot, maybe, just maybe, GMJBotto isn;t all that concerned with winning because there's light at the end of the tunnel and exactly what this team needs more then anything...

I would LOVE to see OReilly traded then Kane signed but we seem to do everything ass-backwards so that'll never come to be

the fact is that both Sam's were highly touted and we would have gone nuts if EXGMTM not had drafted one of them. Furthermore, Sam had a great rookie year and as somebody said earlier this year he sucks but who doesn;t? The draft has become a kind of roulette wheel thing where one never really knows what they are getting, unless his name is Connor or mathew. and lets be fair to EXGMTM EVERYBODY thought we'd get at least one of those two, if not both. I cannot even imagine what this team would be like with BOTH! In the end, we have some good young players in the works and it all comes down to development. Hopefully with the new winning culture we are seeing in Rochester players will come to the big club more NHL ready and able to contribute right away like most other teams' callups seem to do

I am wondering if this team is not the worse ever, but rather the slowest and more importantly the most unsuited collection of players for any style or system Howie has or may try to implement. I further wonder if this team was actually better suited for Disco Dan's system and maybe he wasn't so dumb after all...maybe he knew they could not compete with faster teams so he used a system that hid this team's flaws. This new system Howie is trying to introduce sure is exposing every weakness every player has by today's standards. Having said that, Will Carrier sure looks fast over there in Vegas...that team is everything right that is wrong with the Sabres
