  1. Just to point out that Holmgren dealt Mike Richards and Jeff Carter in less than an hour. The frameworks get set now and once the time comes I don't think it's too much of a distraction to fire them off.
  2. Right.. expanding the scouting department, changes to real scouting from video scouting, etc. They do look different. Only time will tell if they are.
  3. Makes sense with Tallinder not available. They aren't going to call up Pysyk/McNabb until after the deadline I would guess. I'm just happy to see things get going again, so we can get to the key March 5th date and finally know what the hockey department is thinking.
  4. My created pro at ranking 73 performs better than them as well. So.. you know.. it's a game. :)
  5. Ahh, I see where I went wrong. I assumed this thread had devolved into a measuring contest and that you were just throwing out a number. I did some research though and that 6" thing is apparently a phallusy.
  6. I had always heard that it was the average size. I've never measured but all the articles I read say so.
  7. No worries... I started with buckets and a pan on the stove, I know where you are at. So, stay with the bucket for fermenting until you can afford something better than a better bottle. They are nice, but cleaning them is awful. I don't like glass carboys (I've read too many injury stories from breaking glass). I've used them, never had an issue, but I was always leery of something bad happening. I'm currently using a 14.5 gallon conical.. not your cup of tea.. but in reviewing if you can save up for this you might be happy - http://morebeer.com/products/brew-bucket-stainless-fermenter.html I'm thinking about getting a couple of them in the near future for a different brewing system. Fermenters are the hardest thing to clean and stainless is amazing at reducing the effort.
  8. They are good questions. I don't know entirely what a physical consists of when they are doing this. I'm sure it's not too unlike the physical I get from my doctor. Basically, do your limbs move, etc. I don't know if they can subject the player to imaging. Once he has a contract signed I am sure he can get his vision checked. Before it? Not likely. But again, I don't know what is possible and what is not. I'm guessing that there are many things they can't test. Of course, a player who wants a contract could always agree to a test as well.
  9. Loved this play... and I dislike the uniforms.. especially the barely visible stars.
  10. Horses are treated as property. That's been illegal in the United States for some time. It's a different tune when it's a person. You can discriminate against a horse. What they test are the outward measures of the player. They can't peak under the cover. In theory where does the line end? Can your employer perform a routine psych test on you? What if they determine a certain risk factor in mental health profile makes it slightly more likely you'd be involved in a violent incident in the workplace? Perhaps your profile says that while you say you have no problem with people from other cultures your body language suggested that you were lying. Bottom line.. there's no way it could be required. If we move the argument to the personal responsibility realm do you think an athlete would get their own test done? What if it showed something? Do they address it? How does that impact them in the sport? Tough questions. I think I would want to know.
  11. Changed the yeast to what? ADDED hops? I know styles are being blurred all the time but it is a Maibock. What hops did you add, and when? I should also ask, is your kit a malt extract kit, a specialty grain kit or an all grain kit?
  12. Nothing like a thread full of subjective being spouted off as fact. He's not the starting goalie for the Sabres. He has not overtaken Miller as the starter. He's not even challenged him. Let's leave it at that. Can he be successful as a goalie? Sure, why not. There are plenty of goaltenders in the NHL who are protected by the team on the ice in front of them. Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl.
  13. Incredible news. Glad Letang is doing okay at the moment. Nasty stuff. The hockey? It can wait. get better.. have a life to live.
  14. Dear God.. is that what I sound like every practice when talking to my son? :) If I had a dollar for every time I say "Bend your knees"...
  15. Time for Pegula to build a development complex in Rochester? :)
  16. Because doing something requires someone else? If the biggest move so far are two role players for a 4th round pick then clearly we are in the gathering momentum phase. It just takes one move to free things up. You figure every night a GM re-evaluates his team and says to himself... perhaps I don't move that guy now. Take the Kings for example, rumors of them wanting Moulson but the Sabres ask too much, rumors for Vanek, and now they are talking about Gagner? That's a long way down IMO. Clearly they wanted more for less and the market has pushed them to consider Gagner. Do they come back up? Gagner has a few bad games and he looks like less of a value, etc. A wise question to help understand the initial complaint.
  17. Yea, I didn't know Fitzpatrick was involved. Guess he'll move his training stuff and perhaps the Monarchs to SIR? Of course. Look at the threads lately. Around here we'll discuss the value of a stale twinkie and then go on a 4 page rampage of whether or not it has more value than Leino.
  18. Lakeshore just got new owners... but there's only so much you can do with that low roof.
  19. I don't think Ott is everywhere in this league. I think there are players who have components of Ott, but not the whole package. As for the guy who lives in Angola, he was banished to the AHL this year for his inability to avoid suspension. He's nothing like Ott other than he hits people. Kaleta is the new Matt Cooke and he's got a long way to go to prove otherwise. Ott is not even close to that level.
  20. Yep. And they will probably ask to speak with Miller ahead of time. They could even keep Hiller and have Miller/Hiller for the playoffs and let Hiller go for nothing. It will play out as I had foreseen (yea.. I'm the Emperor today)
  21. It is, indeed, perfect. You embody that emotional response that I refer to. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I'm just saying you do. Fact is, Stafford is not going anywhere. He'll be earning his $4MM next year. He's serviceable and his contract will in no way hamper the Sabres. There's no way another GM is going to give the Sabres anything they need right now for Stafford. Late round draft picks? Not needed. Impact players? No one trades an impact player for a non-impact player. So he's a Sabre and his salary will help make the floor next year.
  22. So while everyone waits for the inevitable decline of Stafford, what if, just maybe, Ted Nolan was the answer to making Drew Stafford the player he is now and this continues? This is where having a new management team in place is good because they don't have to look at the history of Stafford. I don't think he's going anywhere. His cap hit is $4MM and that's going to be spot on for where he ends up on this roster.
