  1. so, it's like a nasal catheter. you're right--nothing to wish on anyone, and i'm deeply sorry that you have to go through that. i hope it at least yields something that will result in getting you better and healthier.
  2. probably blue and gold, if she can wing it.
  3. I thought Francis had presidential aspirations ... not papal. Hmm.
  4. First off, congrats to DtM! That's wicked awesome. Second, the weather out here is ridiculous. It's going to be 60 this weekend, which means i'm going on a bike ride. Can't wait to get back to it.
  5. can't say i didn't see this coming. with jackson in the wings, and possibly taking nassib in the draft, fitzpatrick was completely expendable.
  6. my 8 year old daughter said that the other day. tried watching the game on saturday, and she got all whiny and uppity. "dad, they're not even worth watching. they SUCK! can't we watch hannah montana?!" sadly, she and her sister won out.
  7. Mike Harrington is an idiot. I can't post the tweet due to work internet restrictions, but basically he says that Kaleta will probably get 5 games because "Brad Richards will not participate in practice today for #NYR." If Richards (like we all saw) was playing full bore less than a minute after the supposed career-ending hit, how is his not being on the ice necessarily related to the incident?
  8. gotta have dinner at the in-laws tonight. bringing the ipad and watching it on GC. like they said last night, this team has some swagger to it now--a bit of arrogance. 3 game win streak is nice, and maybe it is the start of a long run, but if they want to have any hope of sustaining that long run, enroth has to get some of that swagger. start him tonight, get the defense in front of him playing as well as they have and clean up the little mistakes, enroth could pull off the win and get some of that "winning fever." otherwise, we'll ride miller, he'll be exhausted by the time the end of the season rolls around, and once again, IF we make the playoffs, a first-round exit is almost guaranteed. here's hoping for a statement win over the rangers. go sabres!
  9. My mom has never been the biggest hockey fan. She lived out there for decades, but never got swept up in it. Now she lives out here, visits WNY every month. She's out there right now and took in the Islanders game the other night with some friends. Even she noticed just how sad and pathetic they looked that game. She also watched the Tampa game. With her feeble hockey sense, even she noticed that there was a marked upward tick to the whole game. Sharper passes. Fewer mistakes. More consistency. Better attention to assignments and location on the ice. If she noticed it, you can bet that there's definitely a change. This game is a litmus test, plain and simple. Win, and there's a start of a mini winning streak. 28 games left, and 9-11 points out of a respectable playoff spot. My focus tonight is going to be to see how Myers responds to his last game. A couple of screw-ups, but a great goal, mostly excellent skating and puck handling. Let's see how he does tonight. Go Sabres. PLEASE ... GO!!! WIN!
  10. Last night, I went home with a raging headache. It was so bad that almost forgot to actually fill out my time card. In my agony and haste, I didn't close the doc that I had been formatting and editing. This morning, I came in and was greeted with an email from a co-worker who lambasted me for leaving it open. "I needed to work on something in that doc, and you left without closing it. What if you had been out sick for days? THEN what?" The best part is that he CCed our manager. Couldn't bother to discuss this privately with me, nor find out if there was a particular reason why I left without closing it. No ... instead, he writes this scathing email and copies our boss. Sweet. Follow that up with the fact that he, another co-worker, my boss, and I all had a meeting this morning to discuss that documentation suite. Mid-way through, my boss looks over at me and says, "Oh, yah ... by the way, please make sure that you shut your docs when you leave." At that point, I felt that I had to defend myself and explain why it was left open. After I gave my explanation, complaining co-worker said, "Yah, I shouldn't have sent that last night. I was tired, not feeling well, and then when I tried to get in and couldn't, I was just pissed ... so I fired off that email in anger. So ... sorry about that." Nice.
  11. would you happen to have your finger on the pulse of the derek roy feelings down there? i would be surprised if the sabres won tonight. they've shown no passion at all. why would tonight be any different? not trying to sound down ... that's just how they've played. and it's been like this for 5 years. flashes of brilliance, sandwiched between texas-style slices of utter crap and dazzle. we'll see. hopefully they come to play tonight.
  12. I went with nuclear winter, but that probably means that the team is on the verge of a 20-game winning streak. every time I say or pick something, the exact opposite happens, so ... who knows?
  13. What a class act. You could totally hear his emotion, and ... wow. I'm still in shock. Excited to see what Rolston can do with this group, but 15+ years is an incredibly long time as a coach. I wasn't married with kids when he took over. Hell, for that matter, I hadn't even started back to college yet. My brother hadn't moved back out here. Clinton was still president. I think it was Eleven or Shrader who said it yesterday: we hadn't even heard of Monica Lewinski yet. Thank you indeed, Lindy. My personal hope is the Avs. I will take multiple family road trips for that one. ESPECIALLY when the Sabres are in town.
  14. short work day. 2 hours to go for this week, then i start working toward next week's 40. did no one have anything to say last week?
  15. Working on a project for months as a contractor, sending the invoice to the company well over 5 weeks ago, and now not hearing a single peep from them at all. No return emails, phone calls ... nothing. I'm starting to get very, very irate. We're not talking about 10s of thousands of dollars, or even several thousands. For them, this should be extremely easy to pay, yet they're sitting on it for whatever reason. All I'm asking is for a rough estimate as to when it will be paid. Grrr ...
  16. Got it. I was at the 1989 game then. Sheesh ... didn't realize how many super series the Sabres have been involved in. Wonder if there's any interest in revisiting these series. Different era back then, what with the Cold War winding down, but still.
  17. I came on board early in the Sator era. My dad head season tix second row reds behind the opposing net for 1st and 3rd periods. I moved around a *lot* from 1991 to 1995, and when I finally settled in Utah, I got "swept up" in Jazz fever. Low point of my life. Sadly, with little access to anything hockey related, I lost track of everything Sabres-related. Totally missed the Hasek era. Saw parts of the cup finals in '99, but woke to the news of "no goal." May 10, 2006, I had a conference in Las Vegas for work. As I was passing through the Flamingo casino one night, I stopped by the betting area. There were more TVs than I could count. On several of them, The Sabres were playing the Senators in game 3. I caught the very beginning, and I didn't move from my spot all night. On the first Buffalo goal, the overwhelming majority of the lounge erupted with screams and cheers. I looked behind me, and I all I saw were Sabres' hats, jerseys ... it was like being at a home game. We all chatted about where in WNY we were all from, our different avenues to ending up in Vegas at that particular moment, and where we were headed when our time in Vegas was over. NO ONE was currently living in WNY. We had all moved out of state and were either on vacation, attending some conference, in town on business ... but every single one of us were back in the lounge for the next 2 games. The screaming and celebrating at Pominville's OT winner in game 5 was one of the loudest experiences of my life. I came back to Utah a changed man, yet I was the same person as I was 15 years before. I talked to my wife about getting the Center Ice package, and she said it was fine (the things you beg for when you're married ...). We now have 2 daughters who bleed blue and gold. In their eyes, Boston sucks, Miller is a god, and hockey is their king. They might know or understand all the rules, but they're learning. Welcome to the new Sabres era. I cannot wait for tonight's game. I think that Moscow/Sabres game was 1989. I was at that game. Got a pic of the game-winning goal before the light came on. I'll see if I can find it and post pics. That was a great game.
  18. i'm listening to the presser at FNC. i cannot believe how emotional i'm getting over hearing DR announcing ruff's "relieving."
  19. dammit ... i take a half hour lunch break, and i come back to this? the news of the decade? sh ... i mean, crap.
  20. Rush dropped their second leg tour date announcements yesterday. Just got lawn seats to the July 31st show in SLC. Taking my 8 year old daughter. She's beyond stoked. I've been playing CA, VT, and HYF a ton lately. She's starting to sing along, knows the band members' names ... it's seriously a dream come true, raising another generation of Rush fans.
  21. The Pittsburgh game was winnable. Hell, for that matter, *every* game is winnable ... but this team finds ways to lose in spectacular fashion. I have every reason to believe they *can* win; it's a matter of whether *they* believe it, and right now, I don't know if they do. I hope they crush the Jets tonight. That would be great. Toronto is on back-to-back shutouts. Tampa is 2 points out of 3rd (yes, I know ... weak division), so Islanders, Jets and Panthers ... a much greater chance at winning those than Toronto or Tampa Bay, IMHO. I don't know. I'm burned out on all the couch potato analytics and hoping that something starts clicking for them.
  22. whatever. they're outplaying them, and THAT is what matters. so ... there's that.
  23. it's a crock of sh** because: a. it's milbury. 'nuff said, but b. they outplayed pittsburgh that period, MINUS THE FIRST 2 MINUTES. i said nothing about it being applied to the entire season. milbury said this game, and i'm responding to this game.
  24. i've noticed that every time he opens his mouth, a child dies in uzbekizstan. he's a murdurous moron. that whole statement about "there's more to it than that. lindy didn't have his team prepared." what a crock of sh**. they sucked it up the first 2-3 minutes, granted. after that, they dominated the first. won the corners, won in puck possession. got a goal. this game is going to be totally different in the 2nd.
  25. in all seriousness, has anyone contemplated taking out a contract on milbury? he's just too stupid to live.
