Nice. You can have a perfectly lovely evening of television entertainment, meanwhile a Goon-Slapshot-Miracle marathon was on Spike and you totally missed out.

umm...4/3/2013 came AFTER 7/2/2012...

I think of it more like the Weather Channel. I'm never gonna make popcorn or a date night out of it, but it's worth having around.

GDT: Carolina at Buffalo 7PM Sept 23 Preseason WGR 550 No TV

I especially don't like injuries to teams that might be racing our first round picks to the bottom... -
I don't care if he's slept with half of women in Buffalo, if he's gonna provide any additional insight into improving the team, I want the voice in the organization. I want a hockey man like Murray making all the final calls, and Nolan mustering the troops on game day, but I want those guys to have all the available information when they do those things.

Wait, are you arguing that it sucks for the STH or that the team had another option? Sure, I'd rather the tickets be free, but the team had no other option. The team has absolutely not cut costs. Other than the this year's salary anomaly where they are spending a paltry $64 million on player salaries ($5M short of the cap), costs for the team have gone up across the board every year, including payroll for the past 3 seasons. really good, significantly improved since Pegula took over.
-
Which is exactly why we should NOT sign Lebron James to play Left Wing.
-
You are creating a mutual exclusivity that does not exist. They are expected to make the team competitive AND increase revenue by price hikes. It's not an OR situation. There is no way the Union's Lawyers would let the team get away with a revenue growth plan that does not include raising ticket prices. Also, The food and beer are BETTER now than they ever were.
-
Yes, perfect. I can use stats to show that Ella Fitzgerald sings in tune more often than me, so she would make a better lead. I can show that certain tempos will work better for certain groups. But come show night, you just gotta follow the lead, and play from the heart.

The players receive the exact same amount of salary regardless of whether the Sabres are at the cap or at the floor. The league wide salary is the same, no matter what. The sabres being better doesn't make the league more money. Not enough to not include ticket prices. They are the single biggest lever that can be pulled. Any economic analysis would show that it will increase revenues, the sabres will still have a waiting list. There is no way you could formulate a plan that would pass "good faith" muster that did not include ticket prices. And I by food and beer at every game. As far as my wallet is concerned, he gave it right back to me.
-
Ghost, good faith negotiations and adherence to the contract are cornerstones of Collective Bargaining and Labor Rights in North America. The players are only interested in seeing league wide revenue improve. Buffalo playoff games at the expense of another team playing are a wash as far as they are concerned. Buffalo must submit a plan in good faith that they believe will increase the size of the pie. Without ticket prices included, it absolutely could not be considered a good faith effort. But they don't care if Pegula gives that money right back to me (like he did this year) because they don't care about margin, only revenue.
-
Ghost, you could improve your argument by not conflating Hockey Related Revenue, Average Ticket Receipts, and Operational Margin.

If a person were to design a sport specifically for the application of advanced data analysis, they would end up with Baseball. A series of repeated similar events with hundreds of data points per player per season. If a person were to design a sport specifically to hinder the application of analytics, the would come up with something very similar to Hockey. Football has repetition as the play is reset for each snap. Basketball has individual separable events like foul shots and play essentially resets as the ball comes across mid-court. Hockey is a fluid continuum and even tiny unmeasurable variables like short term leg fatique or Pommer's stick breaking (well, that's totally measurable, we just don't have numbers large enough to describe it) have huge influence on the play. Possession is a great descriptor of the game, but I have yet to see an application that allows a coach or GM to successfully adjust a team to significantly improve. I can tell the Leafs are terrible and that they are going to crash in the second half of the season, but so could the GM and Coach, and apparently all the money in the hockey world couldn't help them find a solution to that problem.

Take a look at the dump and chase article. Fancystats are about more than individual player performance. They can give insight into how best to design a system to enter the zone. Still not useful to the coach on gameday, but certainly valuable during practice.

I don't think they'll conspire, Arizona is safe. This isn't like Pittsburgh where there was a real threat of moving.

Today I offer you the honorary "Keys to the Internet" Congratulations on your victory. smegma.

Are you saying Nolan should learn all the analytic theory, put it in his compositions (his "system") and then on game day just coach the game that's in front of him? I could see that working, but it does kind of contradict first part. He does need it, but he needs in at practice, not on game day.

We prepare for for the Last Judgement as portrayed by Michelangelo. I call dibs on being the guy standing up in the boat.
-
There is one scenario in which I agree to the statue: Sabres finish last and Islanders win the lotto. If this happens. I will be standing out in front of the FNC collecting funds for the statue myself.

Roster was set for maximum juvenile genetallaceration. It's on page three of TSN's nfl fantasy stats.

didn't mean to get snark (except the intentional mispelling of Sanchez). The draft trade is just pissing me off more and more each week. I'm having a hard time grasping just how good Watkins will have to be to make that trade "worth it". It would be tough to reconcile if we had a great quarterback. With EJ, it just makes me feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Sparty and the Irish are in the top 10 and the O's have clinched the AL east and I only have to hear about Jeter for another week, so I'm just going to focus on all those happy sports things :)
