Undrafted. Listed at 6'1" 180lbs Has 2 goals in 5 games since his call up, is a plus 1, and looks pretty composed in front of the net. Both of his goals this season have been off the types of rebounds that i think the sabres have really failed to capitalize on, the ones where the shot is about 5 feet outside the crease. Not way outside, and not right in front of the net. IMO this teams downfall has as much to do with our lack of supporting talent as it does lackluster "superstars". Catching the replay off the Boston Ottawa game on NHLN today reminded me that we used to have some pretty good role players here (Paille, MacArthur) and i think that should be a big issue we take a look at. As much as i like the effort i see from guys like Ellis and Porter, they really shouldnt have a place on a competitive team. They fill holes where better support guys should be. Could Flynn be one of those guys in a few years? Who knows, but this isn't just about the "core" anymore, we just need a flat out better team. I have a hunch that if all the scoring wasnt squarely placed on two or three forwards shoulders, they might be performing a little better on a more consistent basis.

I am not sure what his preferred style is because if i remember correctly, he was instructed to mimic Ruffs system in Rochester due to the whole "sabres University" thing. I'm not sure if that stuck but I'm hoping he unwraps some original Ron Rolston for us in the coming weeks, rather than rinsing and repeating Lindy's tired system.

Not going to celebrate this. Lindy has been the Head coach as long as I can remember, and it will not be the same without him behind the bench. He truly will forever be a face of this franchise for me. But with the changing of the guard comes uncertainty over the future of this team, and that in itself is exciting. I hope he at the very least finds a place within the organization, if not success elsewhere.

I don't really think Hodgson is "more of the same" he seems to be relatively strong on the puck. Kassian is certainly farther from that baseline than Cody but i wouldn't put Cody in the same category as i would say, Derek Roy or Tim Connoly.

Unfortunately he should be a Dman first, taking the shot and scoring as a Dman does nothing for me if you're consistently a liability in your own end. I think Ehrhoff said something along the lines of "my agent told me that my offensive ability would get me to the NHL, but that my defensive play is what would keep me there" back when we signed him. There are already players on this team whose primary focus is to score, and they are called forwards.

I agree with Ink, where there is a will, there is a way, and in 2 or 3 years, having coho Grigs and ROR as your 1,2,3 punch down the middle with the possibility of girgensons centering the 4th makes for one scary core of centermen.

This has been a fantastic thread so far. My question is simple, would Brennan be a viable "roster player" to send the other way if coupled with an additional prospect and pick? I'd hate to give up Girgensons. Scouting reports on him rave about his scoring ability and work ethic, both of which are things ROR bring to the table. However Girgensons i think translates to a more physical hard hitting body. Would Brennan and Girgensons be enough to get oReilly? And would that even be worth it? It certainly would keep their payroll down as far as brennan is concerned, and girgensons does have a lot of comparables to his game if he maintains course. Edit: I think a puck moving defensemen would appeal to the Avs right now, and Brennan is at a solid age to be coupled with their other young guns. I know he's not all that experienced, and i'd almost consider this 2 prospects instead of a roster player and a prospect, but given his shot and performance in the A, i could see the Avs biting.

My understanding regarding that stat was that he was playing on checking and shutdown lines and was moved to a scoring role the year he hit 55. That's not to say i don't see what you're suggesting as a valid point

In my opinion trading a top prospect an a roster player for negotiating rights seems absolutely obscene. Colorado must be off their rocker. If I can do it for Leo and Adam yeah sure you betcha. No way I'm parting ways with ennis or armia or mcnabb for a player we still need to convince to play for us.

I'll tell you right now the devils won't go for that deal. They're one of the few teams in the league with a surplus in d men. He's definitely available IMO but acquiring him and dealing leopold would require two separate deals.
