  1. Agree on lack of longevity being the key factor but I’d add that a Stanley Cup might have put him into the HOF even at that. Alas, not to be.
  2. I think your data set of those two movies would lend itself to being in the middle. Moonrise Kingdom is indeed delightful while Life Aquatic is easily Anderson’s weakest movie. Moonrise is sort of the gateway drug to Anderson’s movies. I suggest you try Grand Budapest Hotel next, then if you like it go to Rushmore, then Royal Tennenbaums. Darjeeling Limited is good but IMO somewhat of a guy’s movie if that makes any sense.
  3. The thing is, you have to overpay guys to play in Buffalo. It's not a sexy location like Winnipeg or Edmonton where they'll take less. :-)
  4. Isle of Dogs. If you like Wes Anderson movies, it's great. If you do not, it'll likely fall flat. Also if you love dogs you might like it. If unfamiliar with Wes Anderson, the correct entry point is Rushmore.
  5. Eichel was a good value for his first three seasons for what they were paying him. I think "other young players" were making basically the same money Jack did (i.e. their ELC). Which young players have outperformed him and signed for less? MacKinnon for sure but his performance took off after signing the deal in a way not necessarily predictable based on his first four seasons, one or two of which were quite sub-par. He's a raging bargain at this point. Same thing with Scheifele. Draisatl? Debateable but I'd say Jack is 15% better ($10M vs. Leon's $8.5M). I think Pastrnak is the most likely one ($6.7M). Maybe Barkov too also (~$6.6M I think). I'm talking same draft year +/- 1 year. Not being snarky here, its a real question. Are there others I'm missing? Nylander, Matthews, Marner, Laine...all still on their ELC so not in the discussion yet.
  6. My first reaction to this article is that Tage Thompson will never amount to much in the NHL. Now, maybe he is just good at repeating the party line about what he's doing sitting out game after game instead of playing somewhere. But if he is actually comfortable sitting around watching video and saying "I'm still young" then he does not have the drive necessary to become a consistent NHL contributor. I'd have much preferred to see quotes saying (essentially) "this pisses me off, sitting around watching while the boys play the game, so I am working as hard as possible to get back in the lineup and never come out". His vibe is nothing like that at all.
  7. I think it's likely #1. Last year the Blues had him up and down and the Sabres must feel he's better served just staying with the big club, working to get into the lineup and trying to hold a place there. I'd prefer to see him playing on a top line in Rochester. At 21 he needs to learn to be a scorer as a pro. Even when he gets into an NHL game every now and then he's playing more like 4th line duty.
  8. Perhaps she was coerced in that if she had the baby then Kane would NOT pay her the money? ? I was not yet over the edge on the whole "Kane is a bad guy" thing but it only was going to take one more "where there's smoke..." incident to put me there. I'm there.
  9. Casey should be in the AHL learning how to score in the pro game. Samson doesn’t turn it on until game 42.
  10. Tough for Hutton to fight off those checks from McCabe and Ristolainen
  11. It's New York State! Don't you know that without Albany laying out 21 different types of licenses to serve alcohol, our society would crumble?
  12. Calgary deserves that...outplayed Buffalo tonight
  13. The Baloo-Nelson pairing is as bad as I feared. Nelson was really benefitting from Dahlin’s presence.
  14. Yes, right in front of the ref. It appears that legal now.
  15. I feel worse about Larsson over ERod
  16. Whenever I see UBI my brain wants to sub in UTI. Out with a UTI. It could happen. That would be a real pisser.
  17. I have no first hand knowledge of any of this...but...I happen to know a former Sabres (and Bisons in the old Rockpile!) organist who is also a professional musician and music teacher. He got a chance to see the new organ recently and was unimpressed. His description of it was that it was "fine" and basically the type of thing you could buy in the mall. It surprised him that for an NHL franchise they didn't invest in a more professional piece of equipment.
  18. He fills the required role of "dude who can play some hockey and can legitimately drop the gloves and throw down" pretty well when he is healthy. As opposed to say, Jordan Nolan who failed on the "can play some hockey" attribute.
  19. The line is OK. We're only happy about it compared to 4th lines from recent years.
  20. RPI Engineers! Before my time there though.
  21. Sobotka winning some face offs
  22. Hutton not looking confident
