Why does it have to go to the extreme? Noone expects perfect even out of vets. Part of the issue with this conversation is wording. “Expectations”. It could mean are you satisified with his performance? It could mean what were your preconceived notions of what you’d see his rookie year? For me, I answered the second question. And admitted that I really had no baseline for it.

The big issue I see with this plan is time. Every 5-7yrs the league seems to catch up with the current stule of play and then the preferred style of play changes. At this rate we’ll have developed this awesome squad and they’ll get steamrolled by whatever the next best way to construct a team. Edit. Or worse yet, one of our key pieces for this style of play gets hurt and can’t do it anymore. Thats why I dont agree with planning to win X years down the road. I know. Poor sentence structure at the end. Too lazy to rephrase.

There were hints last season that Risto wasn’t really accepting of being coached. Haven’t heard that talk at all this season. I wonder about that.

I’m not sure where this is coming from. I don’t think anyone commented negatively on his offensive game.

I mentioned earlier in the thead, this is the game plan they should have run all season. This roster doesn’t have the horses to play the way Phil has been trying to get them to play.

In all seriousness, all of this could have been avoided if you had simply asked Ink or I to expand on our thoughts instead of defaulting to confrontational histrionics. I would have said, you know, I have no idea what to expect from a rookie generational defenseman because I've never watched one play on a regular basis. I would have expected more possession dominance. But again, I've never watched this level of defensive talent in their rookie season. But instead, we're here. Good on you.

Tampa was really coming on after that goal. Felt a bit like watching a cat toss around a mouse it had just caught.
