The summer doldrums of hockey. Propose an NHL rule change.
thewookie1 replied to Porous Five Hole's topic in The Aud Club
The reason it was misspelled was due to it originally being a character name in Star Wars Galaxies which carried over as my forum tag and I just stuck with it. Very good movie As for my original point, I know its absurd but I have a very hard time trusting the NHL not to be absurd. Especially after telling us we like the moving ads on the boards and that they are somehow making the game easier to watch. That, and about 15 minutes prior to typing this I literally happened to see something about the new woman's hockey league and it put me in a sour state of mind. (Ticked off they dropped Buffalo's team) -

It’s more the motive than actuality; you give an inch they’ll take a mile. Remove fighting due to injury potential then they’ll cage all the masks, then you remove body checking, then actively bring women into the league since there would be no rule differences. While I doubt this is some kind of overarching plot behind the scenes; I wouldn’t put it past some of the PR and marketing gurus up top. Secondly, fighting allows for some rage to subside inside a game and unlike JohnC, I’m not at all interested in calling even more penalties and cracking down hard on everything. I don’t want 7 PPs a game purely due to slashes between whistles or ejections left and right. Ideally I want 5v5 hockey with the full 18 skaters every game. Additionally I see no reason to remove the ability to fight seeing as it rarely occurs. We had 4 I think last year; that’s 1 every 20.5 games. When is the last time we saw a legit brawl? I’m not exactly pro-fighting, I don’t want it every game but I am very much anti-no fighting. -

The only "staged" fights nowadays is when a more gritty player targets a guy who drilled a less physical or now injured teammate. To me that is merely an extension of the heat of the moment. Additionally the occasional fight can energize a team to turn things around. For me the health factor is irrelevant; if you take out fighting due to injury risks then checking isn't far behind and don't tell me I'm using a slippery slope fallacy. Players can literally get hurt from a soft check into the boards. Essentially as soon as you open up the injury box, anything can be made considered problematic. -

Frankly I think the first and third are rather stupid honestly and/or gimmicky. I don't hate the 2nd one but really not a fan of tweaking NHL rules -
Kane can’t play until January so even his signing wouldn’t effect the out of camp roster

Idle SabreSpacer speculation re: Patrick Kane

Warts and all Kane, depending on the purpose and usage Kane could be a nice piece for any playoff run. The guy is clutch and has 3 Cups and a Conn Smythe to his name. I'm not worried about his past as he's certainly grown up. Give him a a 1 year deal, let him get conditioned in Rochester and give Quinn all the time he needs to recover. My hope would be Kane's homecoming and desire to come back from a surgery no one has before would give him plenty to play for. If he flames out and is forced to retire, so be it. He's without a doubt a HoFer regardless. -
I wouldn’t do it honestly, Zegras doesn’t exactly fit a need we have and is just more of the same.
-
My guess is Anderson will have some type of job in the front office or coaching staff.
-
My guess would be that his surgery's doctor or specialist might be up there.
-
Sounds like the plan is moving into the next phase KA may feel that once he has Dahlin and Power taken care of, he can start tweaking to create a playoff berth
-
Doubt the Sabres even would give a call if Dahlin was involved.

UPL, Olofsson, 1 of the non Benson prospects, and a pick for Zegras and Gibson 50% retained. @Ben_Mathewson was the one to give this idea. Well we do know during the Eichel saga, Adams wanted Zegras to be a part of the deal

Pearson has fallen off a bit and now has a serious hand/wrist issue that Vancouver botched

Benson has been one of the few good Sabres -

I highly doubt Skinner gets traded due to his NMC and contract. -
Its a matter of privacy violation and would be considered a major no-no in nearly any business

This is what I mean, Hedman signed for 7/8 years and what was 12%. Even if he signs 6x10.5 he'd be well within his peers in terms of money and term. In most cases no, but hockey players don't work in a traditional business. If I were a player, I'd want money but also to win a Cup. (Unlike most businesses, the workers want to achieve the "company" goal) So my target in any negotiation would be to acquire a front loaded contract with 6+ years with NMC protections. If I were Dahlin I'd personally ask for 10.5/11 mil for 6/7 years and a NMC. Invest as much of my signing bonus etc and then profit. The slight loss I take from not going shorter or higher capped will be made less troublesome by %rates while also keeping my cap hit reasonable.
-
Again you seem far too pro-player. Every statement you have made this far feels like you want Dahlin to demand his full value and look for a short contract because he can. Also, it’s not I don’t want stars to be paid; I want them to take contracts that are fair and can help the team as well. Tampa is a good example of this. I’m not asking him to take 8x6mil.

I frankly don't care what players make, I care about winning. I'll never support players making more money if it effects the team's ability to achieve success. Some of you guys seem almost giddy by the idea that Dahlin wants to take us to the cleaner potentially. Unless he's paying you guys, it makes no difference to our wallets and if it weren't cap related I really wouldn't care. Whomever has the money, Dahlin or Pegula, it doesn't matter to me. It will never make sense to me why anyone wants the team to suffer for some personal grudge against the Pegulas or Buffalo; if so just leave the fanbase because you aren't a fan then.
