Pretty much this; they are hoping to get the Stillman from 2/3 years ago back and use his physicality when needed as a 6/7. Hate the trade at this time but I do understand a bit more now about their motives. KA is more or less saying Clague and Bryson are on thin ice and that he definitely sees a deficiency there. He's also believes his struggles aren't a reflection of his off-ice persona and thus not a potential problem in that regard. While he certainly overpaid; its not as if he paid a 1st for him. Or pulled a Murray and traded 2 2nds + for a AHL fighter and a prospect. He's hoping to get another Jost; a player who has some talent that is in a spiral but still young and potentially salvageable.

My guess is that we have an offer for him and have zero interest in budging. For instance if we offered a protected 1st, Rosen and Johnson for Chychrun I could see us just sitting on that offer. There’s zero reason for us to up our offer as we don’t necessarily need him. Plus it gives further reasoning for KA’s borderline disinterest in showing any haste in the trade market. Essentially Adams has made it clear that he doesn’t need Chychrun immediately but Arizona kinda has to trade him by the deadline since they’ve held him out so long already.

My guess is further insurance and an award for his franchise flexibility between Rochester and Cinci

Feel free to toss them now at this point seeing as we saw the team around them raise their level but not them; but I wouldn't of been willing to prior to the season. Lyubushkin isn't a prospect but is an average bottom pair dman with physicality. Additionally none of them required long term commitments. To a degree I think you are using information we know now and using it against things in the past. I'd love for them to get a better Dman to push down and out Bryson and Clague at this point but doing so requires 2 parties, and a logical and sane deal. You don't go trading Savoie or Kulich for Chychrun for the sake of a player who'd be our 4D. Goalies are a crapshoot and we targeted a well thought of back up with upside whom we could escape from if he fell flat on his face. I'm not interested in trading a 1st or multiple B+ level assets for a goalie when any goalie you acquire is likely to have warts not much better than a random goalie off the street in the offseason.
