I think Terry has seen the light so to speak. He did what he said he would do and gave DR a good shot to get things right but with a fan base that was crying for change he had to pull the trigger. This goes a long way for me in showing he is serious about his promise to the people of Buffalo that the ultimate goal is the cup first and foremost. I commend him for making what for him was probably a tough decision. GO SABRES !

I'm not sure if its been mentioned. I just got in and don't have time to read through the entire thread(s). One of my favourite moments from Teds previous incarnation as a Sabres coach was when he brought in the Hanson Brothers of slapshot fame for a pre-game pep talk. Of course this team at that time could go with anybody with the likes of Ray,,May,Barnaby,Boughner which was nice having that swagger. Does anyone have a clip of the Hanson bros in the room for the pep talk. I remember seeing it at the time and thought it would be cool for some of the younger guys to see it.

I've been waiting a loooooooong time for this day. With that being said though I have no ill will towards Either DR or RR and I wish them both the best. Feel bad for Ron as he was put in a shittty position which I'll add he accepted but anyways good luck guys. Darcys had a good run. Time to move on.

Just posted this question in the trade idea thread. What up ? Trade related or ? Generally with a major trade the news comes out before a news conference. So...? -
Here kitty kitty.

It wasn't an argument it was a discussion. I said nothing about Stamkos or the other players you mentioned. I never said anyone was worthless. My question was about a G.M.s drafting record when people he had drafted went on to win the cup. ( which may or may not have anything to do with the G.M. ) Which was what I was trying to learn from the other posters who were I might add doing a fine job of explaining it to me without personal attacks. Spin it how you wish. Anyways,as you were.
-
No that is not the logic being expounded. That is not what I am trying to say. This is more about the G.M.s Lgr than the players. If you read the post that was in response to you you'd get that. But you just keep on with your tough guy act Lgr. It looks good on you. No need to join in the conversation and show some civility.
-
Thank you. I'm not saying based soley on the record of cups won. You and blue have managed to reply and explain to me what I was simply asking with out calling me stupid, dumb ,idiotic and resorting to personal attacks and I appreciate that. All I was saying is there should be some sort of accolade to G.M.s who have drafted well and won cups and I guess there is anyways. They get the cudos from their peers which is enough. And to you Lgr I always thought of you as a pretty intelligent poster. You've gone a long way to proving me wrong. I'm confident if you and I were sitting having a beer you wouldn't talk to me the same way you have here. Maybe you were having a bad day.

You of all people feel cups aren't important in relation to draft picks. Why do you draft people and for you in particular because you spend such a vast amount of time arguing for or against certain players that are draft age why do you list qualities such as hockey I.Q. and grit and other intangibles if it isn't in the hopes that those intangibles will lead those particular players to one day raise the cup ? How can the stanley cup not be intertwined with the drafting of players. Thats why you draft players.
-
I get what you're saying. But if the cup is the ultimate goal then maybe he is ? If Sean Thornton is on 5 cup winners after his career is over and Rick Nash hasn't won one I have no problem saying maybe Thornton deserves more credit than he gets. In my mind Nash never accomplished much because the whole idea is to win a cup. Without the cup what has he accomplished ? A whole bunch of missed playoffs or 1 and outs ? Nash might end his career with 1000 pts but without a cup what has he accomplished ? Thats all I'm saying. There has to be a better way to quantify what being a cup winner means to a g.m.s draft record. How many players a g.m. has drafted who have won a cup should count towards some sort of measure of success. Question- G.M. #1 has drafted 27 players who've won the cup. G.M. #2 has drafted 4 that have won the cup. Who's the better G.M.?
-
I suppose the only stat that counts is how many games in the league the draftee plays because almost every stat including goals and assists can be broken down to a team accomplishment. If you play surrounded by crappy team mates chances are your personal stats will be worse and vice versa. Its a team game.
-
No need to agree with me as it imo but to me success at the draft is how many draftees of this team are wearing rings. Here or elsewhere.
-
Kassian with 3 goals in his last 5 games.
-
lol. They were prolly booing Downie.

Rick the part about the guys at cbc missing that play and not replaying it was what hit home for me. The way these same people absolutely slayed John Scotts character in the days and week following his hit on the player from Boston was sick. His hit was bad, sure. I'm not disputing that but this elbow attempt was equal to if not worse in my books. Its a leaf player so lets just let that one slide shall we ? What a fukcing joke.

I remember hearing those stories about Brind amour, Lindros back in the day.

Mmmm. Not sure, It looked to me like Burrows threw Kessel to the ice. So where is the media backlash on Burrows for going after a star ?
-
even more so if he's a Sabre.lol
-
Anyone notice simmons drive through that player to start the whole Bruhaha ? If there's something happening between the flyers /Sabres a la Miller I hope that simmons ( spelling ? ) kid is coming back this way as a part of the deal. Wishful thinking ?
-
Well Biron isn't exactly what I would call a fighter either which was kind of my point.
-
Funny how Emery always seems to go with guys that aren't really known as fighters.

I suppose this is N.H.L. news but wait for it...Hartnell cut his hair. You heard it right. The poodle look is dead.
