  1. Rolston is here to right the ship now. He doesn't have time for Darcy-like pussyfooting.
  2. I hope so. Rolston needs to show his balls right away.
  3. Wow, Leino, of all people, gets it. Is he the Sabres next coach?
  4. Absolutely. Being able to separate the man from the mission is a bit too sophisticated for some people around here. We'll just have to give them some room while they work it out for themselves. Perhaps this quixotic, but I would not be surprised if Ruff coaches the Sabres again for a season or two...right before he retires.
  5. Not a fan of Sully, but I do appreciate that he's in this market. He's the only sports media person with the balls to ask tough questions directly to these people. Sports media are the same as regular news media: they don't want to upset the cart too much unless everyone is ready to jump in at the same time. If no one (in the media) has their back, they're going to keep quiet no matter what they think or know.
  6. I like Schopp and Parker for the most part, but I did not like what Schopp was doing today at all. I mockingly Tweeted him with the Marc Antony line "I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him..." Of course, no reply. I turned him off. Sometimes that guy's ice-cold blood takes it too far.
  7. As sad as it is to say, the Sabres need Pominville right now. He is a responsible two way player and the Sabres simply don't have enough of them. However, if the choice were down to Vanek, Pominville, or Miller, to me Pominville would be the odd man out. I doubt that will be a choice, though. I think Regier would be a fool to give up any of those three at this moment. Not until the rest of the offense, or most of it, has been fixed.
  8. Not to mention Pominville seems distracted on the ice compared to last season and seasons prior.
  9. What's missing from the Sabres is an identity; this is a group of players, not a cohesive team. I think we would be better served to view ROR, or any acquisition, in the light of a whole team, and not an individual piece. So, would ROR be someone who can help glue this team together? Is he more of an adhesive than Myers is or will be going forward? Presently, if they're going to try and retain the "dangerous defense" thing they have haphazardly tried to piece together (along with the "skilled offense" and "hard to play against" things... :wallbash: ), then getting rid of Myers goes against that idea. Even if Myers never hits his ceiling, in a more competent group he can be potent as he is now. If they're going to go conservative, build a stay-at-home defense, and re-tool the offense into something that works, then a person like ROR may be worth a shot, but not straight up for Myers (even if we think he won't get any better...as a commodity he still has value). But then, what would the Sabres be targeting...what kind of offense does ROR fit into best? It was said earlier that he is a Lindy Ruff type of player. Okay, well, that idea no longer matters. So what now? Sorry for all of the questions and nothing really solid to contribute, but as I read this thread, I can't help but think that what's happening here is the same approach that has put the Sabres in the predicament they're in now: viewing players as pieces by themselves, rather than making the team work as a whole. What kind of offense should the Sabres be creating, who should stay, where does ROR fit in and how does it work? I do know that Gerbe, Hecht, Stafford, one of either Ott or Kaleta, Leino, possibly Foligno, possibly Ennis, and, yes, Pominville represents too much of either a single-dimensional player and/or someone too ineffectual to keep a roster cohesive. I ramble...sorry again. I'm just trying to piece together an offense that makes sense to see if going "all-out" to get ROR makes sense in the end.
  10. I think Rolston goes back to Rochester. Pegula is too patient to shoot from the hip like that and can Rolston if he can't make anything with this roster. They would chaulk it up as an "invaluable learning experience" for Rolston. Regarding the GM, Terry may have players he likes, things he wants to do, but he strikes me as the kind of person who relies on others with more knowledge than he. So, when he bought the team, there were people telling him Darcy was good at what he does, and Darcy told him that he's willing to be a partner in the development of the team. What a great combination! Okay, so, he learns, through his experience with Darcy, not to trust certain people tied to the NHL, a certain point of view. I think he would want to find someone who can boldy and quickly accomplish the mission of winning Stanley Cup(s) - however that happens. The person will have to acknowledge that Terry will be pestering him all of the time, but Terry, by now, has probably learned to think twice about meddling with hockey decisions. I mean, for all we know, Darcy could have told Terry "Robyn Regehr won't fit the team, boss, and here's why..." and Terry would have backed off. But this is Darcy...he probably went "GREAT IDEA, TERRY!" I think after the Ruff/Regier era comes to a complete close, the Sabres may very well end up better for it because Terry, Ted, et al will have learned a great deal about running a hockey team.
  11. The problem with giving Rolston a chance THIS season is that he quite literally has NO TIME to "right the ship". If there was a chance of saving this season, it would have been because the players got what they wanted: a new coach. The players showed us tonight that even when they get their way, they are unmotivated. They showed us that the roster is going to have to be blown up - that they, for whatever reason, are no good together. They showed us that this season is lost. That's why people had hope for the change, and that's why people are disappointed now, because it's clear we're looking at another season out of the playoffs and we're looking at a lengthy rebuild.
  12. You don't really want me to find more. In fact, I really won't. You'll be fine. Google "puppies".
  13. He's been moping and snarky all over the forum the past day and half, poor fellow. Maybe we should have Ruff call him and tell him it's okay.
  14. The narrative has come out in bits and pieces since last summer. The time-line I've been able to piece together is: it started with Roy's comments at the end of the season. Apparently Darcy and Lindy had some conversation over the summer where Lindy would soften his "approach" with the players. So, since the season started, Lindy had been more touchy-feely, less loud and angry. We all know Roy's comments. Darcy mentioned it at some point at least once when being interviewed by Schopp and Parker (prior to the exit presser). Pominville has mentioned it. Then, of course, we have the comments from Hamilton that alluded to it. Finally, we have Darcy's comments during the exit presser.
  15. Looks like we're in for a long rebuilding period, folks. Rob Ray has officially drank the Pegula koolaid.
  16. I recommend everyone get a puppy. We have a new puppy and she has certainly taken the edge off being a Sabres fan.
