Per the bold, much of the talent acquired by those great Bills teams was because they sucked in the early-mid 80s and they had more premium picks in the draft as a result whereas Josh has been at a disadvantage in that regard because we’ve been a later drafting playoff team in four of his first five years in the league. It’s just more difficult to add premium players to an already successful team nowadays. It’s a good idea not to because comparing players across eras is inherently flawed.

Those reminders are plastered in various adjacent rooms, hallways, meeting areas, cafeteria, etc. Also a ton of wall space devoted to important Sabres legacy teams, players, etc. None of that matters because it has to come from within the players themselves. If you don’t possess the necessary character, which includes every trait necessary for success, then you’re not gonna get any of that from signs and placards.

I guess it could be worse when I think of the San Marino soccer team that has only won ONE match in its 33 year history. And that was a friendly at that. But I guess being ranked last in the FIFA rankings is better than not being ranked at all. But I give them all the credit in the world because they compete their butts off every match, regardless.

Nearly six months to the day since his surgery and with the recovery window being 4-6, I don’t feel like they’re rushing him back in the least, but I’m still surprised he’s back before the new year.

While he’s been better in his last couple of starts in the A, he was flat out crapping the bed before that.

Ah, I thought you may have been referring to other prospects in the system we could better have devoted development time to. I think we’re done discussing the Benson “back to juniors” issue. I will agree to disagree and move on. Except to say this: Benson has shown to be more ready for the NHL at age 18 than either Power or Levi were at that age.

Fair enough. So how’s this: we need him to keep from losing more. Whatever the increment may be, he makes us a better team with his play. The best players play. It’s that simple.

What were the Bruins thinking when they decided to keep an underage rookie when he should have been sent back to juniors immediately after training camp? They’ve probably ruined the kid by rushing him. Oh the humanity!

“Top 5 pick” is just another arbitrary metric. As for that higher threshold, does the fact that he’s been one of our better and most consistent players all season matter at all?

I’m not faulting the Sabres one way or the other. Nor do I think it has anything to do with what he wants if he stays or goes. I was addressing the projection that the Sabres are depriving him of his dream by not loaning him to team Canada for the U20 worlds. I’d be just fine with it if they did. And he doesn’t appear to have been rushed at all to this point. He’s holding his own in the best league in the world. Your arbitrary insistence that Calder Cup contention has something to do with that notwithstanding.
