  1. A couple of things in Rosen. 1) all his points are on the power play 2) history is full off AHL stars who couldn’t translate it to the NHL. If he can mimic VO and turn his defensive game into an asset, he has a shot, otherwise he’s Jody Gage. 3) do you really think the coaches would purposefully keep a player down if they thought that player would help them win?
  2. Everyone is reading way too much into this. It’s really a case of an exploding cap and everyone, other than McDavid wanting to maximize their market value. Kempe and Tuch are almost in this together and my guess is that both will sign for a comparable number. LA has finally gone over $10M so it shouldn’t be too much longer. If you think Tuch is a top three forward, $11M is not out of line.
  3. I understand it’s way early but I look at JJP for Doan and Kesserling and hope it’s ends up the way Peca and Wilson for Alex turned into Peca and Warrener.
  4. Yeah, it’s like low hanging fruit. It was a bad analogy when it was presented. No matter what size the business, no business owner wants to use their personal wealth to subsidize the business. It’s just not sustainable. Ultimately, however, like you said, it’s their money to do with what they want.
  5. Ive thought it was always Tuch and Kempe who were the next tier. I’d guess they both sign soon for similar deals.
  6. I would bet at least 275 are best ball which can be easy pickings for someone with a better educated guess and take little time to get involved in.
  7. I really do respect your opinion and you are one of my go to posters when I visit the board, but man you are like a reformed smoker.😉
  8. As others have said, Ranger games sell well. I don’t expect them to do well with tickets till the team starts winning. A couple of things, though. 1) while Buffalo gets a lot of heat for it, opposing fans making up 25% of the crowd has become the norm around the league in roughly 80% of the building. It’s in large part a function of the ease of getting tickets on the secondary market, although there are other factors. 2) I understand all the pessimism but my point was that it’s not as universally felt as some people tend to believe. 3) Last year I sold roughly 100 tickets at, or above cost. At least half of those to Sabre fans. I also know that at least half those Sabre fans are as pessimistic as anyone on this board. However, people still like to go for a multitude of reasons.
  9. Given the tenor of this board, I think it’s a little surprising that less than 1000 seats remain for Thursday’s game.
  10. Thanks to everyone that is explaining the difference between revenue and profit. You all must work for the government or an accounting firm because I can’t imagine anyone else cares about profit. You all need to look up an old WKRP episode where Doctor Johnny Fever explained the myth of profit. These guys are all making money. Very rich, very smart people are doing something normally foreign to them; they are begging for inclusion. They wouldn’t be doing that for the privilege of losing money.
  11. It’s only shocking if people have believed the long held myth that these franchises lose money.
  12. Yes, but your previous post implied that all three players thought the organization was a train wreck before they left and the fact is, only one ended up at that conclusion before he asked out. Sam and Linus apparently thought highly enough of the situation that they were really, really close to signing here before ultimately walking. Sam was actually even apologetic on his way out.
  13. Ullmark and Reinhart were both ready to sign here which would lead to the conclusion that, if you are right, they really didn’t care as long as they got paid.
  14. History has shown that sports revenue isn’t always tied to real economic growth, but your point is taken.
  15. This is good analysis except there have been whispers of the cap rate of increase not slowing till it hits $150M which obviously changes the numbers dramatically
  16. People that I would trust with my life tell me this deal was done and than it wasn’t. My feeling, with no collaboration, is that NHLPA, is pushing these guys to reset the market. I think I posted earlier that there is talk of a $150M cap in the not too distant future and players don’t want to be making $9M when players start earning $20M.
  17. We still have two tickets available and everyone is welcome to join us beforehand whether you buy a ticket from us, buy one on on your own or don’t plan on going to the game at all.
  18. Like Taro said. It’s very good and if the weather is good, within walking distance
  19. Taro and I are going to meet up at Union Pub before the game. We hope to be there around 11am. Everyone is welcome. All I ask is if you plan on eating you give me a heads up so I can let them know and hopefully get a table or two reserved. Thanks.
  20. Update. We now have 6 paid tickets and 2 available.
  21. You don’t know that for sure although the odds obviously are on your side
  22. Don’t disagree with your take on Adams at all but you know as well as anyone on this board that after the top three to five goalies, no one can predict from year to year what’s going to happen. It’s the state of goaltending in the NHL. Since we brought up gambling, I’ll bet if you read the message board of every team in the league, twenty five have no idea how their goaltending is going to hold up,
  23. I’ll take that bet.
  24. I actually am pretty confident they make the playoffs this year, for the record. However, and more to the point, is that while I understand the skepticism and negativity, not everything they do is wrong or outside the norm for the league. Every team in the league goes into camp with only one or two roster spots open, all but about three to five teams would like to upgrade their goaltending, etc. etc.
  25. This all just sounds like looking for something to complain about. Why do players have to play with different players to shine? If someone practices above expectations he’ll get noticed and given a chance. Besides, since the advent of contract guarantees and the salary cap, a well informed person can accurately predict 99% of any professional team’s opening day roster before training cap starts.
