Sabres announce Jarmo Kekalainen Hired as Senior Advisor

Why? There is no real reason he has to be here. -
Sabres announce Jarmo Kekalainen Hired as Senior Advisor

Which is why his supporters, and there are some left, will tell you is why he went rogue with his last hire. As I responded previously, I’m not defending the decision, I think Adams should be gone, but his past experiences seem to have lead him to this illogical decision. -

The “he’s made a lot of perplexing decisions “ is still a problem for me. Firing JBOT and hiring Adams was really the only decision that came out of nowhere. There’s no doubt that his decisions haven’t worked and led to abysmal failure but until he promoted Adams all his hires had been vetted and most recommended by the NHL’s management team. Even Lafontaine, who seemed spontaneous was being advocated for by the league. -
I know. You know I was just giving you a hard time. It’s cool to be right sometimes too. I think I’m going to ask for receipts for being to taken to task for saying JJP wanted out.

You predicted he would sign an entry level contract?

Chad D: expect a Byram trade at or around the draft
tom webster replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
All this is why I don’t think they trade him without getting a significant return. They would prefer to keep him but he would like to be traded and not because he hates it here or doesn’t like the team’s direction. He wants to be the man and doesn’t see that as likely as long as Dahlin and Power are here. My feeling is that Buffalo would love to sign him to an extension. -
We renewed all our tickets this year. It’s still a good night with family, friends and business associates.

Friedman- Sabres looking to move prospects for players
tom webster replied to JoeSchmoe's topic in The Aud Club
Is it really wet or does it just create the feeling that it’s wet? -
Dahlin prefers the right side.

Anyone can learn defense and the right fundamentals, the question is do they want to.

Staal is as highly regarded in league circles as Grier, Drury and Briere. -
Sabres announce Jarmo Kekalainen Hired as Senior Advisor

Jarmo would be the de facto GM Staals’ first couple years. People get wrapped up in titles. Teams do it all the time to keep assistants they want to keep, or like in St. Louis, to basically do on the job training. -

If there is a planned succession, it’s more likely to end up Jarmo. POHC KA - President on the business side Eric Staal - GM -
Sabres announce Jarmo Kekalainen Hired as Senior Advisor

There is no scenario where this is “career suicide.” As others have pointed out, it’s a no lose situation. If things work out, he’s the genius who saved a sinking ship. If they don’t, the narrative will be “he could only do so much with what he had to work with.” Most people taking on new assignments prefer to take over an under-performing business or department as opposed to a thriving one and this is no different. -

You have no real idea what the organization’s feelings are with regards to JJP. Maybe this is Dahlin’s “Drury/Satan” moment. -
As it turns out, and without doing any deep analysis, that draft class sucked for most teams.

Sabres looking for Senior Advisor for Adams and Hockey Department
tom webster replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
In the end of the day, as bad as I think Adams has been, signing Ullmark might have completely changed his tenure. His misfortune was Seattle acquiring two hot goalies off the market thus setting a series of signings in motion that lead Linus to Boston. -
Hockey Heaven? what the Sabres are competing with
tom webster replied to mjd1001's topic in The Aud Club
It’s still funny to me that some people don’t understand this. -
I agree, it shouldn’t have been a factor but it often is. It’s rare to leave a series of interviews with a slam dunk candidate and when it’s close, people tend to go with familiarity.

I know people hate what if’s, but that was the biggest turning point of TPEGS tenure. If he picks Zito, who was the other finalist, the legacy is so much different. I’m sure the Pittsburgh connection was the deciding factor.

I read that as “tax” camps and spent ten minutes of my life wondering why lacrosse players had special insight into tax laws.😔 -

Rick Dudley is great at what he does but he is notoriously abrasive and difficult to work with. He would be a great addition to the front office but I don’t think he’d bring a lot of people with him. Florida has been the perfect spot for him because he’s out of the spotlight. His joining the Sabres would also be a sign that Terry is willing to back away because Duds isn’t coming here without those assurances. On a personal note, I’d love it. One of my all time favorites, I still remember the day that Punch admitted letting him go to the WHA was his biggest regret as Sabres’ GM. He was that team’s JP Dumont. They underestimated what his toughness and drive meant to the mid-70’s Sabres in the same way Darcy did with Dumont. -
I agree. I’m just making a point. First time guys can thrive and often do. The notion that they need an experienced guy or they need some senior level POHO runs contrary to the way the leagues most successful teams have been run.
