Forget Groundhog Day. The WGR fan rant about the Sabres is the only true way of knowing that spring has finally arrived.

I love the idea of firing another coach. If he's not the right guy, get rid of him. I genuinely don't give a flying ***** about how much this owner has to pay to people not coaching. He is responsible for the Tank and he is responsible for the worst decade of Sabres hockey,… actually, he's responsible for the worst decade of hockey of any NHL team ever. Drill another well and get the right guy cuz this is bullsh!t.

The Sabres actually won today. In fact, it's really quite incredible, the landslide by which they won.

As to this chip, where are the sensors reading it? Are there sensors in every arena? Are they in the cameras? Every camera?I’m not arguing that it is all possible, but it is way more data than I think people make it out to be. My question is, if it’s actually being done, who is doing it and more importantly, who is paying for it? Since some teams analytics departments consist of only two people, my guess would be EA Sports?

Someone is going to have to prove it to me that that is what is taking place. Where is that data coming from. Is there some hockey data analysis firm with rows of people watching replays, scrutinizing every shot of every game In the NHL, as well as the myriad other data they collect? There’s no way you can get that much information from an intern counting shots real-time during the game. Sorry if that sounds snarky. I’m legitimately asking.

Absolutely. I love the expected goal stat, but even that has to be taken in context. It’s a league wide average-of the shots taken from here, X% go in the net. But if it’s Crosby or McDavid taking the shot from here against Hutton, it’s a much higher expected goal than if it’s Eakin shooting on Price. Yep. They have their place, but I wouldn’t miss them if they went away.

When other teams get the puck, they turn and explode towards the offensive zone. When we get the puck, with no fans in the arena, you can actually hear them thinking about what to do next. It's ****ing painful to watch. It is so painfully slow and it gives the other team so much time to recover and defend. The backhand passes, the backwards through the leg passes, the pass pass pass pass pass just for the sake of passing passes. Just awful. ... and people were grousing about Bylsma's stretch passes.

Oh, and yes. Hutton sucks.

It's the system. But what do 5 foot tap passes, soccer style play the puck in the direction you got it in the neutral and O zone have to do with the goalie? If they are in the slot, they pass it to the boards. If they are at the boards, they pass it to the slot. It's all about the extra pass. It's like he wants to give the other team an opportunity to pick it off. Terrible.

While I agree this happened, to me it looked like he was trying to do something that he wouldn't have done in the past.

Right now is the first time this entire decade where I thought it was coaching.
