I'm having flashbacks to that nobody Sergei Makarov winning the Calder as a 31 year old.

I don't know why I'm so naive to think that the 7-8 year contracts are intended for the elite players on the roster. Granted they were signed at different times, but Tampa currently has 7 players under 8 year deals and 2 under 7 year deals. The previous ones I'd consider elite guys on that roster, but these three definitely push the boundaries of that definition.

Didn't they add most of these guys during the past season? I can barely remember who they signed today let alone when they added a bunch of faceless names to the management side of things. -
Well it is at least significantly closer to home.

I like to think of this name as a combination of Covid and the plague.

Oh sure, it’s easy to get super facetious when you conveniently ignore a couple key words in the post. But hey, I’m sure every single goalie in the history of the nhl started out as a backup but then became a starter after signing with a new team in free agency. Yep, super easy claim to backup with cold hard facts. -

I'm not so crazy about converting career backups to the starter via free agency, but there really weren't any options here. I think he should have a talented enough blue line in front of him to help out quite a bit. -
And 7 years for a guy who will be something like the 5th best forward (7th-8th best player) on the team in a year or two, if not right now. I don't get it. But they're a printing press, so it doesn't really matter.

The market is truly awful. The position as a whole around the league is right there. The NHL has what, 2 elite goalies? They do need more, but it won't be someone above average.

I don't know, Pete T NYR sounds like a place I'd go for all my info, the self-proclaimed "die heart NY Rangers fan".

I’m happy with the 28 year old Subban in that role over 32 year old Tokarski. There’s at least a small amount of potential for growth there, no matter how minuscule it may be.

I'm not sure how much it really means when a poster or two manage to post 20,000 times in a single day.

Let's not forget that Hamister's money guy is/was in jail for a while. That tandem would have worked out so well for this organization.
-
What’s Washington doing? Add them to the list of teams with no NHL goalies under contract.
-
It’s too bad he’s not a defenseman because a blue line with Sam Steel and Owen Power would be straight out of the movies.
-
That's an interesting name. Coward, chase... two words that don't go together all that well with a goalie.
-
Clearly hasn't been paying attention to the offseason. Cozens and Krebs are too old for Chicago.
-
We have been in goalie purgatory for way too long now. We had so many years where the position was not an issue. Hopefully this current crop brings us back to what we were so used to for so many years.
-
First goalie in the draft. That much is interesting.
-
I was actually impressed by how quickly she got the kid the hell out of there.
-
That shouldn't be the case. It should revert to his status at the point he was drafted. I'm trying to think of specific examples. I want to say Alex Nylander, but he's a weird case where he was just on loan to the CHL team.
-
What exactly are they talking about, the moment where he stops smiling? He's focused in the same direction the whole time (the camera) and stops in between pictures. So did Bettman.
-
Think Zemgus Girgensons. I suppose that's slightly different since he was already on this side of the pond playing in the USHL, but that's another european who when immediately to the AHL after being drafted.

How did the other multiple pick teams do? That's a big part of why I hate most winner/loser draft analyses beyond the obvious prematurity of the whole thing, the multi-pick teams almost always default to winners. Part of me likes to think that Arizona was so focused in on Cooley that they never even noticed that Wright hadn't been picked yet.

Any relation to the former Coyotes GM?
